Chargers can score but KC Should trade a draft pick for a real Cornerback

The way people were reacting in preseason this was going to be a historically bad defense.

They gave up 28, 7 of which was basically in garbage time.

Pump the brakes, whiners. We have a QB now. Giving up 28 points isn't the end of the world.

This defense will get carved up by elite QBs.

3 easy TDs dropped by Chargers WRs. Hang your hat on this abortion of a game by the defense, though.

If they aren't finding a new starting CB, yes. Scandrick is incredibly bad and Murry should never get significant snaps again.

The real question is will all teams be allowed to hold our pass rushers all game without being called like it was today. I guarantee Squeelers get away with it (as always) next week. But it was truly ridiculous watching it happen on 3 of every 4 plays and not a flag thrown.

The key here is that unlike Rivers, most elite QBs aren't cursed.

Chargers are suppose to have a top defense and a top offense. If there is any truth to that then we should be able to score more on other teams while giving up fewer.

I don't think we need to score 35 every week but we've all seen this rodeo before. Trying to outscore everyone every week only takes you so far. It's fun to watch but it leads to a total meltdown when you lose in the playoffs.

This team appears to have a legit championship offense and Veach needs to be combing the waiver wire and/or hoping Sutton can coach this defensive group up. There's the opportunity to do something special here.

Thank God we signed Parker. Tackling was down all over the league (with the exception of the Jags).

Hopefully Big Ben throws up 3 picks again next week. They failed to pull out a win against the Browns this week. That's encouraging. But they ran the ball well without Bell. That's not so good.

Probably not.

I was concerned about a couple of defensive issues, though. Ragland is a step or two slower than I hoped. Scanlon (or whatever he's called) needs to take a seat. Fuller needs to learn how to stay erect during the actual play. Oh ... and the DBs need to work on how to defend receiver bunches. They can do better with the talent they have (sans Scanlon ... or whatever he's called).

I thought we played pretty well on the road against a talented team who wanted this win bad.

Ever notice how our down linemen are always slow to get positioned? Bailey in particular will be standing up, hands on hips, then get down in his three point stance a second before the offense snapped the ball.

I see no fire in our front five on defense. None from Houston either, what a waste!

They really need to tighten things up, You can't give up 400 yards week in and week out. Numerous dropped passes. The problem is there is a severe lack of talent on the roster. Not so sure how they are going to overcome that. At some point in the near future the Chiefs will hang a big number on somebody only to lose due to the poor defense.

The Chargers were the typical Chargers today. Slow starting and full of mistakes. I really take great pleasure in their misery.

I think today we scored too fast and we tired much faster than we should have - out of the gate it wasn't as miserable. That game was a lot of fun though.

I don't think the defense is as bad as they look. The coaching staff has that weird philosophy of softening up whenever they get a big lead, and they allow the other team to catch up. I can see why it might be a clock-killing philosophy, but I really don't think it works. It always - ALWAYS - allows the other team to get back into the game, and if I remember right it's come back to burn us bad in the playoffs every time.

Every game? Probably not. We’ll face some bad teams over the course of the season.

To win games against elite teams that can score? More than likely, yes.

I didn’t think there was any possible way for the defense to be worse than last year, but it may actually be.

I pray Eric Berry is back soon and somewhat close to full strength.

I agree with Rain Man,

The Chiefs got a quick 14 point lead and Sutton went into protect the lead mode, which is the recipe for giving up points and yards.

In today's NFL, you win with the QB, and getting after the QB.

This. You add the long dropped passes by the bolts and we lose. Period. Either Sutton needs to go, or we need more talent in our secondary. Or both.

You had better hope for a miracle with that last one.

Eric Berry helps a ton, but Sutton being Sutton doesn’t help. This win reinforced his softening up the D when you are way ahead stance. It will work against above average teams, but not good teams as we’ve seen in the playoffs over the years.

Fortunately for us the WR corps in LA had big issues catching the ball.

Chris Clark of Chiefs' Digest said he's hearing chatter that Eric may be a go this weekend - he's of the equivalence as Seth Keysor in reliability. So take that as you may...

I agree. I don't know what causes Sutton to go into pussy mode, but we should be looking to stab them in the heart on every play.
Someone mentioned the heat yesterday and that could have been a factor as long as they were on the field. I don't have a lot of problems putting up a lot of points quick, but there has to be some long drives to give the D a blow. I think there were only 2 drives over 5 min. and 1 of those was a FG.
