Knowing what you know now, do you deviate from history for potential or are you still a purist?

It's always been DT. But Patrick Mahomes is looking like my favorite going forward. I'll still keep DT as my favorite defensive side Chief.

There’s only one answer for me: Tony G

Thats a tough question.

Hopefully it ends up being Mahomes. Because you know, winning.

DT is an obvious choice.
Same with TG.
I think JC gets some run in my book.
Big fan of Shields and loved watching Roaf eat people ... err ... block
DJ gets a look
There is a Pretty long list of dudes in the running.

Voted Green. The dude was a consummate pro. Perfect QB for the system we had. Top 5 passer in a number of categories for four consecutive years but never got any of the hype that all the other QBs did.

But I love that Alex Smith is leading though.

When I was a kid I always pretended to be Deron Cherry when playing football. Then I went through a Dale Carter phase because he was just bad ass. Derrick Thomas will always be special. I was stoked for the arrival of Joe Montana. Dick Vermil’s offense was super fun. After the shit years I was stoked to see Alex Smith wear the red and yellow. DJ was a crusher to see leave the team. Then I can’t forget James Hasty and the boys they were nasty. I guess what I am trying to say is my favorite Chief ever is probably Eric Warfield. But seriously Deron Cherry was the hook. We have had some great players rumble across the turf at Arrowhead. I am glad to have had this franchise as a “my team” all my life.

I started thinking and couldn't pick one that is my all time singular favorite. Probably each decade I've had a favorite.

Willie Lanier was my first favorite along with Johnny Robinson and then it changed as players like Dante Hall, Deron Cherry, Derrick Thomas, Priest Holmes, Joe Montana, Tony Gonzalez, Derrick Johnson, Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry came along.

It was probably more Derrick Johnson and Jamaal Charles until they went to the Raiders and Donkeys. They lost most of my respect for that, Jamaal more so.

Now that Mahomes is here, it's hard not to think he is gong to the front of the line. I do love Tyreek and Kelce as well.

There was a period when the Chiefs were so bad, no one really stood out at all except guys like Gary Barbaro and Art Still during the what I like to refer to as "The Dark Times". LOL

I am a big fan of offense/passing game so in terms of Chiefs that I am old enough to remember watching play... Bill Kenney, Stephon Paige, Willie Davis, J.J. Birden, Tony Gonzalez, Derrick Alexander, Eddie Kennison, Andre Rison (at least during his first season as a Chief), Joe Horn, and Trent Green come to mind.

And now obviously a whole new group of favorites is being added with the current Greatest Show on Earth 2.0 group.

But no. My favorite all-time is Willie Lanier. It's kind of a toss up though, really. Willie or Bobby Bell. Jim Lynch is high in my esteem, as well.

You're a Bill Kenney fan?

I remember working that game (as a food vendor) when Blackledge and Kenney kept landing bombs to Stephone Paige. I liked Kenney, who was good on timing patterns and helped us break a long playoff drought. Here's a contemporaneous news story about Paige's record-setting day:
http://articles.latimes.com/1985-12-23/sports/sp-20716_1_kansas-city-wide-receiver

The poll choices doesn't show much love for offensive lineman and special teams. Our team had Jerrell Wilson and Jan Stenurud. Their omission from the list is not quite as glaring as Lanier's, but still notable. In the 1980's, I think Nick Lowery was my favorite Chief, along with Deron Cherry. Nick Lowery was, to me, like Dan Quisenberry: someone you could count on much more often than other players around the league at that same position. In the 1990's, I'd say Will Shields was my favorite Chief, but I also had a lot of affection for John Alt and Dave Szott, along with Marcus Allen. In the 2000's, I liked Brian Waters for being able to excel at a new position and I loved having Willie Roaf escorting another favorite, Priest Holmes.

I'm really liking this Mahomes kid. I hope he develops a rapport with some special lineman to keep him happy and healthy in Chiefs red for a long time.

Here's a list of our All-Pro and Pro Bowl players: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/kan/all-pros.htm

There were games where Gary Green and James Hasty were my favorite Chiefs, as well. I really liked how Hasty played and how he carried himself, especially in contrast to some of the other defenders we had. Green was an exciting player for a team in the doldrums.

You're a Bill Kenney fan?

Kenney's 1983 season, 4300+ yards passing on a mediocre team (although he had some decent WR's to work with) made me a fan.

Generally only QB's named Marino or Fouts were throwing for 4,000+ yards in a season during that era.

Its very difficult for me to say favorite. I enjoyed watching so many great moments in Chiefs history over the years.

Who can forget DT's 7 sack performance against Seattle or of him sitting on the field after the torrential down pour again against Seattle.

Will Shields was amazing. As was Roaf. Wasn't it Roaf that knocked the snot out of Ray Lewis?

Or how about DeBerg and that gnarly finger. That gave me a lot of respect for his toughness and competive nature.

Nope I can't pick a favorite.

I like Priest Holmes since you asked my favorite. I have my reasons and they are personal.

If you ask more who were the best players for the franchise...

I am a DT fan for best ever on the Dfense and defiantly a Len Dawson for Offense. They have my vote and NO I will not choose just one.

Roaf got him a few, but so did Shields.

The funny part was where the gangland murderer was on the sideline telling people he was being "doubled all day long". Actually, he was being pancaked one-on-one all day long.

While Alex is above average, in stats, it does take a "certain" type to pick him out in a group like what was offered.

I had to vote Mahomes. I got my first ever jersey for my b-day just before the season started and went with #15.

One of my all time favorite who gets little mention in these threads was Kimble Anders. Dude was a gadget guy before they were common. Finally got a chance to be the starter, got hurt, and was never the same again. Le sigh.

Also, quick shout out for Tony Richardson!

Take it from me, some mod is fucking with the poll. That being said after 47 years of dedication, Patrick Mahomes is already number one for me.

There has never, ever been a player, let alone a QB that has done what he has already done. Slayed the dragon last Sunday.

Hopefully we get to play Indy soon.

I'm proud to be a Chiefs fan after this poll, not because Alex Smith is leading but because Jovan Belcher has thus far gone vote-less and Porter Ellett - the Chiefs coach with an amazing story and a lot of fortitude - is an option and received one vote. You figure there are enough derelicts on CP for that to be reversed.

Excuse me why does this poll not have Bennie Thompson?

Is everyone here too young to remember the insane special teams guy that ran around the stadium after every tackle on kickoffs and celebrated by pretending to pee on people like a dog?

He was the best. My new #1. Also I think he dedicated the rest of his life trying to find and get revenge on his wife's killer or something.

DT and TG, guys who were the face of the franchise for many years. Part of the reason why DT is so revered is not only was he so dominant, I don’t think I’ve ever seen another player who took as much pride in being a Kansas City Chief. He literally loved Kansas City, as evidenced by his offspring.
