The best thing that happened for the defense was Terrence Smith getting hurt, not nice to say but he shouldn't be on defensive snaps.

He’s absolutely gotta play that dime LB spot. Which is exactly what he was drafted to do.

What a revelation for this team to find tonight.

People need an opportunity. many times they get it due to injury rather than coaches being good talent evaluators.

Priest has to get hurt for us to show how good LJ is Thomas Jones has to get hurt for JCharles to play. Ware has to get hurt for Hunt to show what he has. KC has a thing with playing broke dicks

He was starting to play more snaps gradually before this, but no way was he ready to play day 1. He missed most of camp and couldn’t get on the practice field to actually learn the defense.

IIRC he didn’t attend some OTA’s either bc of his graduation from Clemson.

You all never mention this - but following or should I say back-tracking on his Clemson career and several interviews, he's very smart - he plays smart by carrying over his smarts to the field. That needs to be recognized.

You would make a good coach.

As a situational player you'd think you could find a way to use a speedy cover backer when teams get in passing downs.

Sometimes you have to lose some complexity to get talent on the field faster.

It takes a couple months for the high priced steriods to really do their thing so lots of times it is just one cycle of eating a shit load, juicing to the gills and lifting with a professional coach. Going against grown ass men coming out of college is tough.

i dunno what bob saw on film but the bengals were coming out in 3 wide singleback, and the chiefs kept coming out with four linebackers with a safety down in the box to help the LBs in coverage....ron parker or lucas basically playing robber, i guess

they dared the bengals to throw it down the field and they only got them once or twice

i think bob got fed up with getting run on when he took a LB off the field.

that's probably not going to work against everyone but it kills two birds with one stone in that no one is running on that look out of 3 wide and you have the safety down there to help out the ILBs in pass coverage

that's the look that parker got his pick out of...it's a damn 2-4-5 but the 5th DB (Parker) is way down in the box so it's pretty strong against the run

https://i.imgur.com/2zAqgIO.gif

the D seems to play pretty well with a lead, it's when teams can relax and make a concerted effort to run the ball that they struggle

andy dalton kinda sucks at reading defenses though so i dunno

I'm not sure if he has the size yet to be effective on running downs but he absolutely needs to be in their on nickel and dime to cover.

They talked about it last night. It was a single high safety and Parker's only job was to float in the middle of the field and read Dalton's eyes.

Exactly what I've been saying for the last month. You draft a guy to be a hybrid LB/S, play the guy when your LB isn't getting it done on pass coverage. Yeah, he's a rookie, big deal, every player in the NFL was a rookie at one time.
