Oh I know I’m just saying he wanted Mahomes and it’s obvious. Did you hear his comments on him weeks ago?

Yes, he really wanted him. Would still be coaching if he got Mahomes.

over 500 yards of offense

no one had 100 yards rushing or receiving
Our DVOA is going up after this one. The score doesn't do it justice for how thoroughly the Chiefs just dominated them in every aspect of the game.

I hope he becomes Cleveland's coach and Mahomes beats him for the next 3 years until they fire him.

I seriously doubt that they face each other over the next 3 years. Chiefs will be winning the division and Cleveland won't be. So that reduces the possibility to nil.

So is pretty much every other defense in the league

Watch more NFL football and you’ll see it
We're a bottom 3rd unit in an all time historically bad field of defenses. It's not that big of a deal. As long as we eliminate the absolutely stupid shit like Nnadi jumping offsides and Hitchens running his mouth we'll be fine.

But they're playing with a historically great offense. That'll inflate the numbers a bit.

These guys make plays from time to time. I'm not saying they won't be an issue in the future but they could be a hell of a lot worse.

It's because they are the king of shit mountain, mate.I honestly don't understand people defending the defense. It is garbage. And it is the biggest flaw on this team, and the biggest obstacle that could potentially keep our team from achieving our ultimate dream of a Super Bowl.

The defense has the potential to ruin one of the greatest seasons any QB has ever had, and certainly the best season a Chiefs QB.

As Chiefs fans, we have literally never had a QB we drafted play this amazing, and after years of watching retreads come up short we finally a legitimate Super Bowl QB.

Why would any Chiefs fan not be critical of the one thing that this team does that has the could end our season short of the ultimate goal?

If not for the bad penalties, I would have said the D was good.If the Browns offense was playing great all year, and we held them to 21 points that would be a good performance.

But they were so bad that the HC and OC were fired. They traded away their best WR and one of their main running backs, and we let them, and their rookie QB, score 21 points.

Our fans are entirely too critical of the defense.

Defenses league-wide are pretty much ass.

Sure, the Chiefs defense has been playing better lately. Not great, but definitely better. Still, the Chiefs were ranked #31 going into today.

I wasn't paying close attention to DOD the whole game but when I was watching him he looked a little lost at times. We've also allowed only 54 points in the last three games (17.3 average). That's number 2 in the league.

Doesn't really mean much but does show, for at least the last three opponents, we're trending in the right direction.

Well then by that argument they aren't as bad as their ranking because they have played a lot of good and great QBs the first half of the season (River, Rothlisberger, Brady, Garrapolo, etc.) You can't have it both ways.

Ok, that's fine. They are a bit of an enigma. How are they so good at sacks and 3rd/4th downs yet allow so many yards? In the end, points allowed is all that matters. At that, they aren't terrible. Not good, but not terrible, I guess.

We have definitely played some very good QBs and offenses. And you are correct that those offenses and quarterbacks have contributed to the defenses poor statistics.

But to me, our defensive scheme, defensive coordinator, and defensive players, really are as bad as Rivers, Rapistberger, and Brady made them look. They are not as good as Carr and Rosen will make them look.

As weird as it seems, I wonder if the defensive weaknesses complement the offense. When you've got an offense that pretty much scores every time, you don't care about giving up tons of yards and having the other team chew the clock. If you stop them once or twice a game, you're going to win.

Exactly.

And teams trying to beat us running the football is like trying to beat the Warriors with layups and mid range jumpers. That’s why they don’t run it more even though they have so much success.

giving up 21 points is no big deal at all

the Browns dropped 42 on Oakland
Been probably my only on point take all season, glad to hear you say it too. We don't even need a good defense, just a defense that plays average - against a team with a good defense. We're getting our 4 td's a game no matter what. That's the floor with a Mahomes led offense. Just as long as - and I can't believe I'm saying this, we only allow on average less than 28, we will win almost every game. That's incredible to think about.

Schwartz was pissed.

In the post-game one of the Chiefs reporters asked him what the secret to their success today was and he said something like "I dunno, take a lot of penalties, miss assignments, put ourselves in 2nd and 30 and wait for an amazing play?"

It was a sloppy game by the OL but when they weren't shooting themselves in the foot, they were playing well. They had a couple of series early in the game where they were clearly trying to find their footing and some screens/excellent plays by Mahomes and the skill position guys bailed them out. I think they'd probably tell you that as well - Schwartz did.

But as the game went along, they tightened up quite a bit. I'd still like to get some reinforcements in the middle but the cavalry isn't comin' anytime soon so this is what we'll get.

The good news is that Aaron Donald would pretty much rape ANYONE we put on the other side of him - he abuses All Pros like they're UDFA rookies. So the height of the speedbump isn't really all that relevant.

Nice to see somebody else acknowledge the truth. Way too many penalties. Even Schwartz admitted it.

But yeah, I'm full of awful takes. ROFL

It definitely wasn't an A plus effort kind of game, but when they go put up 500 yards I'm not gonna pile on too much.

It was never really in question and in reality was just a game they needed to get thru without getting hurt.

Hopefully Watkins is ok.

Reid said Watkins should be fine, but I’d rest him this week.

What did the problem end up being? Strained arch or something? It was hard to tell from the broadcast other than they were taping his mid foot.

I figure if they taped him and sent him back out, it wasn't a real injury as much as it was just one of those things that Watkins seems to get.

Dude's a thoroughbred in every sense of the word, isn't he? Guy's explosive and powerful and dynamic and if he has as much as a hangnail he's probably not gonna make it into the starting gate.

Sure appears to be a fragile dude.

I don't think they've released any details other than "banged-up foot."

If he's good to go, I'd suit him up, but perhaps on something of a snap count, and definitely with the hook ready in case of blowout.

I love him. Almost as much as Tyreek. Yeah, he's a bit fragile but boy did he show up yesterday. Like you said, he just does everything well. It's too bad he's constantly dinged because he's a special player.

Thanks guys. It looked like maybe he strained his arch or something. Probably not serious.

Schwartz just became my favorite lineman. That's an absolutely great statement to make at the end of a game where you didn't play your best. It shows a lot of accountability and character mixed with a good dose of self depreciating humor.

Here's his direct quote:

“Apparently getting a lot of penalties and getting 2nd-and-30s,” he said. “I mean, we didn’t play that well up front. We had a lot of penalties. A lot of getting us back and putting us in adverse situations. Obviously Pat is special and Kareem and those skill guys, so I think we’re going to look back and think about what could have been in terms of up front—cleaning stuff up, cleaner pockets, less penalties. We’ve got a lot of improvement ahead.”

He's not wrong. It was a 17 point performance if you don't have Mahomes and Hunt, if that. Smith and Ware would've struggled to get that to 20+ points and those are both solid players. Schwartz saw that for what it was - okay, enough to win, but less than stellar...

Great stuff.
Now, let's get the line shored up where it's needed, get our defense rebuilt into something special, and go destroy the world.

I love that he’s so great at RAC but sometimes I wish he’d just go down easy.

On one of the plays he came up lame, he was fighting for extra yards against probably 3-4 defenders plus the sideline. There was absolutely 0% chance of the play going anywhere and yet he was fighting like the end zone was a half yard away.

It wouldn't be a bad hire for the Browns. Arians knows his way around an offense.

I had no idea that Bruce Arians and Chuck Pagano were different people. I guess the fact that their names were different should have tipped me off. They just seem identical to me for some reason.
