Other than hitting F5 on CP what do you do to pass the time?
My music days are few and far between now and I've found myself clamoring for a hobby.
I started leather working and have had fun making out of the norm stuff that everyone does in belts and wallets.
Made some armor for the recent excuse to drink a lot from a horn and look at wenches.

Mountain biking. Prior to daylight saving's time, I was on my bike daily. A lot of that is just hitting the nearby flow trails for some laps and jumping with my youngest son. I try to get at least one longer "adult" ride of 2-3 hours on one weekend day and usually a shorter ride with my son of same duration on the other weekend day. We do a lot of sessioning jump lines and pump tracks with him as well, though.

Now that it's dark when I get home, we're looking at investing in lights. Until then, I'm sort of stuck only riding on weekends, but I still was on my bike around 7 hours last weekend altogether.

Down here to find a hill let alone a fun biking path is tough. That sounds fun.

There is some surprisingly good riding in Florida. Alafia State Park is solid. Santos up by Ocala is really good. There's also some good stuff down around Miami and Palm Beach. Not a whole lot around Sarasota, though. I have been pretty amazed at the variety of trails that people can make with so little elevation change in Florida, though.

I read something a while back that there's an urban trail that goes all the way up the coast now from somewhere in Florida to Virginia or some such thing. Some day I'm going to walk that. Have you heard of it?

The impression I got was that it was like a big boardwalk along the coast, and the states have been stitching shorter trails together. I wish I still had the article.

Oh, it might be this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Coast_Greenway

Watching sports, petting my cat, and watching way too much stupid TV shows that I hate because that is what my GF loves to do. I guess I could say poker is a hobby, other than that I don't have much. I need to be more well rounded.

I don't play video games. I don't play any other sports anymore. I always told myself I was going to get really into rec league basketball - because I was a decent ball player when I was younger but I haven't touched a basketball in over a decade. I guess if Lebron is still out there ballin maybe I can achieve my YMCA dream still.

Man. We love riding and the whole scene... and NWA is turning into a freaking hot spot, which is even more awesome.

I love that vid. Bell is hilarious, but he railed that second berm (look at that dust cloud!).

Lately I have been recreating ink drawings that were done by Frank Frazetta.

I started skateboarding out here. Haven’t skated since my early twenties (I turn 42 next month) but it didn’t take long for me to relearn how to push, balance and turn. I fell down a couple of times and got a few scratches but nothing major. I did pull my hamstring trying to push too hard. Not trying to ollie or take on any vert ramps, I just enjoy cruising on the bike paths and taking my board wherever I got. There’s a lot of smooth concrete here so there’s a lot of places to ride.

I bought a deck and setup for $100 at a local skate shop. A couple of weeks later I wanted to see if I could learn to ride one of those little 22” penny boards so I bought a knockoff at the local Chinese wal-mart for $12 and replaced the wheels and bearings for $30. The knockoff penny turned out to be a blast to ride once you figure it out. It’s fast as shit going down inclines. I feel like I’m too old to be doing this shit but most of the time when I feel like I’m losing control of the board, I just jump off.

I used to do a ton of writing, especially poetry about finding acceptance and love. Funny, once I actually started accepting myself instead of seeking acceptance from others, I noticed I didn't write as much. Now that I found love (and have a kid), my writing days are non-existent. I really don't have anything that I do just for me. I guess I need to find something.

Fishing
baseball hitting lessons
hunting
camping
hiking
working on my old jeep

My monstrously busy schedule has caused my girl to complain that I'm not spending enough quality time with her.

I actually took a break a couple days ago for about 2 or 3 minutes. I noticed it was like, 18 degrees outside.

So I started thinking to the ultimate complete limit, and then it hit me.

I got us a microwave fireplace. Sit in front of the fire all night in just 15 minutes.

Guitar. Did the band thing for a little while. It was such a blast. We had an interesting gimmick where about 90% of the songs we did were "Oh yeah...I remember that song" songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. Not necessarily one-hit-wonders, just the forgotten songs from various artists (like, In the Meantime by Spacehog, Breakup Song by Greg Kihn, Interstate Love Song by STP, Run by Collective Soul, Open Up Your Eyes by Tonic, Strutter by KISS).

Writing. It's weird, I love to write but don't really like to read that much. Wrote a book. Took me about 1.5 years. It was a lot of fun. Not trying to make any money off of it or anything. Just wanted to see if it could be done. Had about 50 of them printed. Hardback. Hand them out to friends who enjoy reading.

Tennis and Platform Tennis. Grew up playing competitive tennis. Played collegiately. Have way more fun now playing than I did when I was younger. It's basically just an excuse to get together, hit some balls, and pound some cheap domestic swill. Platform tennis is a winter sport that I just picked up last year. It's a cross between tennis, ping pong, and racquetball. Small tennis court, inside a cage, that you play off the walls. Lots and lots of fun.

Remodeling. The wife and I, since 2012, have bought and sold 4 different houses. We buy one that needs work, fix it up, live in it for two years, avoid capital gains, then sell it. Fun hobby that has made us a few extra $$s. Though, we barely broke even on our 2nd house.

You're probably going to get hurt (I'm frequently hurt from mountain biking), and it's not that big of a deal. HOWEVER, it takes a LOT longer to feel 100% than when you were younger. Also, things that I would have bounced up from in my younger days will have me hurting for a week afterward, now.

I still take risks and ride aggressively, but I try to manage those risks. I really can't afford, professionally or personally, to be laid up with a broken leg these days. On top of that, I don't want to have a serious injury and lose ability to workout and maintain fitness at my age.

But seriously...

It might be more a compellsion than a hobby. I have ARD, so I'm not quite like the other kids. And my socks fit too loose.

I am positively fascinated with all those purty jazz guitar chords. I gave up playing drums on the reg about 3 years ago due to physical limitations.

I picked up a guitar to learn some chords. Found a tuba player that plays bass, so I had to start learning a bunch of songs. He turned me on to the music of Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim.

I have had so many over the years that have gone the wayside.

Silhouette 3d bow shoots in the summer time with hand made osage orange longbow.

Stump shooting with above bow on farm for practice.

woodcarving mostly goes to the fireplace.

Primitive camping and hunting. By primitive I mean a tent not building lean to shelter and using barebow traditional type archery.

My favorite hobby though is dressing in a clown suit and popping out of the woods late at night scaring the bejesus out of folks.

I build things in the shop, hunt, like red dirt music shows, fish, raise honey bees. The only hobby I really have now is coaching or taking my kids to and from practice-games when I'm not at work.

I went to a Jason Boland show in KC on a whim a couple of weeks ago at The Truman. It was an ok venue but their beer had been warm or something. If any of you were the 500lb guy in the front row who screamed and twerked the entire time, thanks for spitting that half mouthful of beer on my face during that whoooohooo.

don't really have any hobbies anymore.
played guitar since I was 13, and used to play probably 3 hours a day and more on the weekends; but haven't touched it aside from a handful of times in the last 10 years and since have sold off my Marshal 4x12

haven't ridden my motorcyle since April, and looking to sell it to get something different.

just don't have time any more for much of anything it seems. my work changed locations, so now my commute went from 15 minutes each way, to 50 minutes each way on a good day, and work 9 to 10 hours a day. Pretty much just tired all the time.

I would, however, like to build (or have someone build) me a really good complimentary computer to smoothly run a legit flight simulator. I enjoyed that quite a bit ; have quite a few binders of approach plates (or whatever they're called), VOR freqs, flight checklists for common civilian/private pilot type aircraft. Have several pieces of gear like a yoke and throttle assemblies; electronic switches, and other modular sim gear. But, my computer finally went belly up a good 6 years ago. It wasn't really intended for gaming. But I'd like to build one soley for the Sim.

I'm going to start on the inside of the house next, paint and new floors. The house is going to be 19 years old. It's been in need of updates for some time.

Yeah when I pulled my hamstring it scared the shit out of me because it felt like something hit me in the back of the leg. It took a good two weeks to heal and stop hurting. I can deal with pulled muscles, scrapes and scratches but I try to avoid the stuff that could cause broken bones.

There are several other brewers here, me, KCUnited, phisherman I think....I actually just rebrewed the CP beer we came up with last summer.

I spent many years playing music don't do that but about 2 or 3 times a year anymore.

I run a lot, I brew a lot. (These 2 things are very connected, I started running due to beer calories taking their toll)

And I have 65'Chevy II money pit that I am close to being done with.

Bunch of of other little things I mess with but mainly running, brewing, and tinkering on my car.

If I'm not trying to learn more on the guitar, I'm typically working on building various retro arcade cabinets/machines.

I have a project now where the "machine" is a coffee table - and the two player controls/buttons, etc. are all built-in to the table. Wanted something portable for when kids/friends come over.

When done, will have retro arcade graphics and a plexiglass cover, etc.

It's fun, and calming.

So many to mention very little time anymore. My latest the last few years has been collecting vintage old chainsaws. I get them running clean up and sell a few hang on to the good ones. I have a lot of old farm saws and firewood saws. I'm on the search for big logging saws in the 60 to 70 cc range. My best friend's dad owned a small engine repair shop and tool rental company. We used to make go-carts off west bend 2 cycle engines that would scream. He took over the business when his dad died then sold a few years back and has retired. He has quiet a shop on land near Richmond Mo that I go and pick his brain. He is trying to teach me how to port 2 cycle engines. But my hobbies are poker, golf, sports knowledge, working out (used to be). Would like to learn how to code as a second career but I'm probably too old.

Maybe this is sexist, but I don't feel like women value hobbies as much as men. Like my girlfriend has no hobbies. Other than watching TV and a yearning to be with me every second. Nothing else. How do people go through life without hobbies? Hobbies are life.

I play golf, I started in '62 when I was 12. I started to notice the tournaments on TV, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were getting people interested, kind the way Tiger did for some people 20 years ago. I got clubs and went to a par 3 course for a year and the big courses. I laid off after I joined the Army in '69 and for the next 40 years I played sparingly until 2009 and then got back into it full steam. Here where I live in Florida, everyone has their own golf cart, we have 12 championship courses, 10 of them are 27 hole layouts and we can reach all of them in our carts within 10 minutes to 50 minutes by cart paths. Right now I'm playing Taylormade M-4 irons, TM R11S driver and an Odyssey Exo 7 putter.

Here's my stuff. That's a Yamaha gas cart I bought new in 2011 when I moved here. I've upgraded the seats, the Sumbrella roll down shades, the mirrors, it has turn signals, headlights, LED outline lights connected to the turn signals, a cooler, a ball & club washer, 2 sand bottles, a floor mat, a black roof and SS wheels. It was $10,000 loaded when I bought it, one like it now is about $15,000.

I was paying $60 a month, but when I turned 65 five years ago, my medicare megap medical plan pays it for me. Here's my gym, MVP they have two locations in The Villages. In the past month I've gotten back into model building, I have purchased five plastic monster model kits. I bought all the tools, paints, air brush, and bunch of stuff and turned a work bench into my modeling bench in the garage. I'm working on the Creature of the Black Lagoon first. I built all these models when I was 12 to 14 years old, they were popular then. Many of them are out of print now. The Creature I had to find one on eBay and I was fortunate to get it for $50, many are selling for a $100 or more. There is a couple of small companies that are still making them, Moebius is one, I've bought about 3 of theirs for about $35 each on Amazon. Here's one I have I'll working on.

When I was younger it was flyfishing, flytying, archery, ultimate, hunting and volleyball

Now I live more of an old tools, woodworking, blacksmithing, disc golf, cheesemaking, meat curing, winemaking, leatherworking kinda life.

Because wife and kids aren’t hobbies, though I love them so.

My football hobby focused on LLLLLLs in the 2000s through about 2012, but now it focuses exclusively on WWWWWs.

(Edit: Heh. I didn't even realize that I started the L thing in this thread two years ago. Talk about coming full circle.)

Ha, always dependable with those comic twists! All Chiefs fans were heavily into the LLLLLLL hobby for a long time, but thankfully those dark days are over. I suffered with too many LLLs for so long, I don't feel safe yet travelling all the way across the keyboard to the VV quite yet, but I'll try to start working over that way JJJJJJJ

Board Games. Have a nice collection of niche titles. We turned our dining room into a game room. I have a nice poker table as a surface, and I made a topper for it using vinyl flooring that turned out nicely.

Aside from basic shit like video games/reading/discussing politics/exercising

Mainly I play bass and guitar. well, and sing

Been playing bass for a few months, only got a guitar a few weeks ago. Getting pretty good on bass, guitar still somewhat eludes me though i am improving. i bough recording equipment so I've been trying to start getting into coming up with songs. i'm a horrible perfectionist and procrastinator so it hasn't gone tremendously as of yet lol, i know there's some good songs in me somewhere though lol.

Yes it is! I can be grown here but definitely takes work. I think I want to try!

Most of the store bought mangos are the least flavorful. They ship well so that’s why they use them. There’s tons of mango varieties.

I have a lot of hobbies. I like playing the piano, guitar, harmonium. I am an avid reader, I love water sports, sailing, cycling, walking my dogs, travelling & meeting people from different countries. These days of self isolation are hard and I am playing the piano a lot. Btw, I am looking for a digital piano - not expensive one like these https://pickmypiano.com/best-digital-piano-300-usd/

Mulberries are messy as fuck. They drop and will stain your shoes if you walk around the tree, if you have any neighboring areas that are not super well kept if will fill up with trees. Birds eat and shit them out and they propagate really easily.

But, it's hard to beat mulberry jam.

Yeah. Don’t plant that anywhere near your pool.

Pakistan Mulberry. Much less staining than other varieties.

Planned for the side yard to shade some of the western side of the house. No deciduous trees near my God damn pool!

I used to scuba dive, water ski slalom, snow ski with 195cm Dynastar Omisoft, and play golf 3 days a week.

Sadly I've done none of the above expect golf and that is just 1 time a year.

I need to get more active and have more fun......

You should undo the "used to" part.

Find a local dive shop, pop in, ask them for a refresher (goes by different names by different certifying agencies), and they'll get you back in the pool soon enough. I think you'll find that it takes very little time to get comfortable in the water again and most of what you learned will come back very quickly. Sure, they'll try to sell you hardware, but just tell them you need a few sessions (beyond the pool [usually] refresher) in the open water before purchases beyond snorkel/mask/fins/boots before you'd consider buying other things like BC/regulator/computer, and they'll probably hook you up with getting you in a local lake or quarry.

Trying to downsize my motorcycle collection. It’s to hard to keep them all maintained and properly rode. Nothing worse for a motorcycle then not being run

Didn’t you post that in the Motorcycle thread?

I have 2 Honda 350 CL Scramblers (72 and 73)
2 1973 Yamaha LT 100’s, one is the Enduro edition, high pipe and the other is low pipe street in British Green. A couple Triumphs, 2011 Tiger and a 2014 Thruxton.

I want to unload everything but the Yamahas and buy a KTM 390 Adventure. In fact test rode one yesterday and I was impressed with that little thumper

I guess mu new hobby is a pair of early 2000s Concours 1000's.
Doing the "Shoudaben reverse engineering" is going to be a job vs. a hobby. Replacing tensioners, cams, even a seventh gear for the road bike is further than I have been into bikes before.

Everything costs a fortune... $6 o-rings

Used to collect baseball and football cards back then when I was a kid. Don't do that anymore, but I still have all my cards since I was a kid.

When weather permits (before pandemic), would play softball on Thursdays and Sundays. Now, I'm just waiting.

I occasionally play the Hearts of Iron 4 strategy game now to kill time. Also just completed a 750 piece jigsaw puzzle on the downtown KC skyline, and now doing a 1,000 piece of a forest with a river cutting through the middle, with one side covered with snow and the other side not covered with snow.
