I guess we will find out, but I think a combo of Ware and Daryl Williams will get the job done with no drop in production. Of course we shall see.

Ware is a stud. I don’t see any drop off at all. Ware is a better blocker as well

I still want to see some Darrel Williams action. We might as well see what we’ve got.

I think Hunt is just a really good running back, we will see a drop off in production but still all that really matters is Mahomes. We'll pass more, Ware can't break the tackles like Hunt can but he can pass block pretty well and catch the ball. Ware often goes down on the first hit these days. Andy Reid will have to pass the ball more to run down the clock when we are up 14 with a quarter in a half to go now, that might actually make it better for us lol.

We are talking about Mahomes here!! The second coming of god himself. He can easily carry this team on his back. Lebron did it with the Cavs. I expect Mahomes to do it with the Chiefs

I do have a bad feeling that we’re about to see just how good Hunt was. I think that’s why I keep pushing for Williams because I’m hoping we catch lightning in a bottle. I just don’t think Ware is gonna be great. He’ll be okay, but not someone that we can rely on like we did Hunt.

Hunt is important, but I wouldn’t say we “rely” on him

We put up 51 last game and Hunt had 70 yards rushing.
Vs Denver, 50 rushing yards in a 30 point performance

Look, I’m just mad at the whole situation. My only point is that while Reid has gotten decent production from RBs one criticism is not using then enough. Now he will be even less likely because the talent isn’t there anymore. No one is going to criticize him because Damien Williams isn’t getting enough carries.

I knew rely was a strong word with this offense. I guess I mean that it helps to have an extremely consistent RB that you know will be a factor when called on. Not sure Ware can be that guy every game. I hope I’m wrong.

I get that. I just think Reid's inability to win the big one has more to do with QB than anything else. He has the QB, you have to have the QB, you can figure a way through the RB position.

I’m just disappointed to lose such a fun talent. HOF caliber guy, so fun to watch. Dynamic

But I also remember that great RB usually don’t win Superbowls, great quarterbacks do. Who was the last top 5 RB to win a Superbowl? Marshawn?

Yeah, this is probably where I’m at. You’re right, Mahomes is much more important to our Super Bowl hopes than Hunt was. Still sucks, but I guess we still have hope.

True, and I think Mahomes is the best QB he’s ever had. I also think RB is not a premium position. Hunt was actually a really good RB and made things happen that will not happen with the other three guys we have now. We needed overwhelming offense to make a push this year and I have no doubt we will get production from the RBs, but don’t think it’ll be enough or come through when needed the most. I hope I’m wrong, but this feels like the old Chiefs again. Never quite enough to be the best team on the field.

So a RB is the difference between SB and “old Chiefs”

Did Mahomes disappear?

Ware is as productive on a per-play basis, but I'd expect some drop off, maybe 10-15%. Regardless, the reason why RBs are a dime-a-dozen is because average ones can give you 80% of what great ones can, which is why you should never, ever draft one high.

No, the old Chiefs had a better defense, lesser QB. This year we don’t have that. To answer the OP, I don’t think Hunt “made” the system, but his numbers playing in the system will be better than anyone we have left on the roster. No doubt.

I don't know of any system that breaks tackles and causes an RB to lead the NFL in yards after contact. Now a guy who leads the NFL in yards BEFORE contact (like Gurley) you might have a point... but no. Hunt is good.

He's one of the top 3 RB's in the NFL. It hurts. Bad.

Where does that 10-15% drop off show up?

On a crucial 3rd down?

It's easy to be dismissive and play a numbers game, but this stings man. Bad. Hunt is fucking awesome.

If you think there will be no dropoff from Hunt to Ware, you are deluding yourself. There is a reason Hunt was the starter and Ware was the backup.

I think this is the only thing I think about with Hunt over Ware, he just protects the football a little better. I think Ware is just as good of a runner, might be just a tad better receiver, and is better at blitz pickup. I really am not worried about a production drop-off whatsoever.

Yep, yards after contact is independent of the system. This is what made Hunt special and what Ware doesn’t bring to the table.
