Tyreek Hill currently has the 11th-most pass receiving yards by a Chief in a season. He needs 272 yards to break the Chiefs' single season record, which is currently held by Derrick Alexander.

Travis Kelce currently has the 17th-most pass receiving yards by a Chief in a season. He needs 309 yards to break the Chiefs' single season record, which is currently held by Derrick Alexander.

Both Hill and Kelce are on pace to break the record, so we may have the #1 and #2 receiving seasons in Chiefs history.

Kareem Hunt currently has the 28th-best Chiefs rushing season. Marcus Allen's 27th-best season is probably safe.

Patrick Mahomes II currently has the 6th-most passing yards in a season for the Chiefs. He needs 668 to set the all-time Chiefs' record.

Patrick Mahomes II currently has the most passing touchdowns ever in a Chiefs season. The Chiefs have had only 17 seasons where the quarterback scored more than half of his current total.

Harrison Butker currently has the 4th-most extra points in a Chiefs season. He needs 7 more to move into first (tied with Morten Andersen and Lawrence Tynes).

The Chiefs are playing their 59th season. Dustin Colquitt currently has the 58th-most punts in a season. At his current pace, he will move up to 55th by the end of the year. Recall that, of the 59 seasons, 18 were only 14 game seasons and two others were shortened by strikes.

The Chiefs have won 11 or more games in a season 12 times. The 2018 team has 10 wins with four remaining. No Chiefs team has ever won 14 regular season games. In 1969, they won 11 regular season and 3 postseason games to total 14.

The Chiefs have currently scored 444 points, which is 5th-best in franchise history. They need 40 points to tie the record set in 2003, and they need 68 points to break the points per game average set in 1966.

A couple of new additions:

Tyreek Hill is 3rd on receiving TDs. He needs four more to tie Dwayne Bowe for the single-season record.

Travis Kelce is tied for 11th in single-season receiving TDs, but he just needs 3 to move into a tie for second.

I had no idea Hill and Kelce had so many passing yards. I knew it was a lot but those numbers are surprising.

^ Passing yards that they have received.

How does this work? Will we have to subtract all of these passing yards you've credited to Hill and Kelce from Mahomes' total?

Flying High D
12-06-2018, 11:27 PM
Their passing yards are passing yards received, Mahomes passing yards are passing yards thrown. Same but different, depending on position and which end the player is on.

Even more impressive was that Jimmy Raye was our OC.

We had a RBBC of Mike Cloud, Tony Richardson, and Frank Moreau. Yes, TRich was a halfback.

It was basically all OL, Gonzo, a bizarre career resurgence from Derrick Alexander, and Elvis chucking it off playaction whenever he had time.

The cool part about that 2000 offense was how well it transitioned us to the Coryell with Vermeil. Playaction fakes aren’t normally a staple of the Coryell offense, and that’s kind of the one thing this offense did well before Vermeil got here. So it took like half of a season in 2001, but Saunders finally started implementing that concept with Green, and it worked like a fucking charm. It really wasn’t until we went back to that bread and butter of playaction that the Saunders offense really started working well and lighting shit up.

Hell, the right side of the OL was already on the team when Vermeil got here. Grunhard had just retired, and Brian Waters was I think some douche Carl had brought in as offseason fodder. For a time, I think Vermeil even considered re-signing Grbac.

The weird thing about Derrick Alexander in 2000 was that he didn't really have any monster games. He was just remarkably steady, and had 4 games where he beat 130 yards to push his yardage count up. But there was no 200+ yard game to throw his numbers up unnaturally. If you look at his game logs, it seems surprising that he ended up with that many yards.

If you scroll down a bit at this link, you'll also see that Derrick only had 4 50+ yard plays in 2000, so his season wasn't the result of a few outliers:

He just had a really good season, so kudos to him.

The Vermeil/Saunders offense started to really click when they brought in Eddie Kennison in the 2nd half of the season.

But he is going to obliterate every record.

Update:

Patrick Mahomes II has set a new franchise record for passing touchdowns, breaking his own record from last week.

At 4,300 yards, Patrick Mahomes II is now third in single-season passing yards. He's 291 yards from Trent Green's record. Bill Kenney is 48 yards ahead of him in the #2 spot.

Tyreek is now tied with Tony Gonzalez for the 4th most receiving yards in a season. He's 133 yards from Derrick Alexander's record.

Kelce is now 10th in single-season receiving yards, surpassing his 2016 season for his best season of his career in terms of yards.

Harrison Butker now has the 3rd most extra points in a season. He's four points from Morten Andersen's and Lawrence and Kristie Tynes' jointly held record.

Interestingly, Dustin Colquitt remains 58th in total punts in a season.

Tyreek remains in 4th on receiving touchdowns, and Travis moved up to 7th, tying (you guessed it) Derrick Alexander in his epic 2000 season.

The Chiefs are now 3rd in single-season points in franchise history, trailing only the 2003 and 2004 Chiefs. They're 13 points from tying the record. They need 41 to break the points per game record set by the 1966 Chiefs.

The Chiefs are now 8th in single-season wins. The only teams with more wins (counting playoffs) are the 1969 Chiefs (14), 1993, 1995 and 1997 Chiefs (13), and 1966, 1968, and 2015 Chiefs (12).

Update:

Patrick Mahomes II has set a new franchise record for passing touchdowns, breaking his own record from last week.

At 4,543 yards, Patrick Mahomes II is now second in single-season passing yards. He's 48 yards from Trent Green's record.

Tyreek is now 3rd for most receiving yards in a season. He's 87 yards from Derrick Alexander's record. Carlos Carson is 47 yards ahead of him.

Kelce is now 6th in single-season receiving yards. He's 38 yards from Gonzalez's Chiefs record for tight ends.

Harrison Butker is now tied for the most extra points in a season, along with Morten Andersen and Lawrence Tynes.

Interestingly, Dustin Colquitt is 56th in total punts in a season.

Tyreek is tied for 3rd in single-season receiving touchdowns with Gonzalez, Otis Taylor, and Stephone Paige. He needs 1 to tie Chris Burford (!) for second and 4 to tie Dwayne Bowe (!) for 1st. Travis is now 7th, but he's only one TD behind Tyreek.

Chris Jones is tied for 9th in single-season sacks with Eric Hicks. I know, that's chilling. One sack will move him all the way to 4th.

The 2018 Chiefs now hold the record single-season points in franchise history. They need 13 to break the points per game record set by the 1966 Chiefs. Interestingly, they've only given up the 8th most points in team history. As long as they can hold the last two teams under 60 total points, they won't be worse than the 2008 Chiefs under Herm.

The Chiefs remain 8th in single-season wins. The only teams with more wins (counting playoffs) are the 1969 Chiefs (14), 1993, 1995 and 1997 Chiefs (13), and 1966, 1968, and 2015 Chiefs (12).

The defensive race is really interesting. At their current rate, the defense is on pace to yield 434 points.

The worst defense in Chiefs history is the 2008 2-14 team under Herm Edwards and Gunther Cunningham, yielding 440 points.

The second-worst is the 2004 7-9 team under Dick Vermeil and Gunther Cunningham at 435 points.

Can Gunther hold off Bob Sutton to retain the crown of thorns?

By the way, the worst Greg Robinson defense ranked 5th-worst at 399 points. I didn't realize that Gunther headed the two worst defenses.

Update:

Patrick Mahomes II has set a new franchise record for passing touchdowns, breaking his own record from last week. There have been only 12 seasons where a Chiefs QB has half as many TD passes as Mahomes. He's currently tied with the best season that Dan Marino ever had, and is the fourth-highest total in NFL history (second-most that didn't involve cheating).

At 4,816 yards, Patrick Mahomes II now holds the franchise record for single-season passing yards.

Tyreek is now 2nd for most receiving yards in a season. He's 13 yards from Derrick Alexander's record.

Kelce is now 5th in single-season receiving yards. He passed Gonzalez's Chiefs record for tight ends last week.

Harrison Butker now holds the Chiefs record for most extra points in a season.

Dustin Colquitt is 55th in total punts in a season.

Chris Jones is tied for 3rd in single-season sacks with Jared Allen. He needs 4.5 sacks this week to tie Derrick Thomas for 2nd.

The 2018 Chiefs now hold the record single-season points in franchise history and the most points per game.

On a less positive note, the defense has given up the 5th most points in team history. As long as they can hold the Raiders under 22 points, they won't be worse than the 2008 Chiefs under Herm.

The Chiefs remain 8th in single-season wins. The only teams with more wins (counting playoffs) are the 1969 Chiefs (14), 1993, 1995 and 1997 Chiefs (13), and 1966, 1968, and 2015 Chiefs (12).

All that stuff was great but if this doesn't explain why Mahomes is MVP I don't know what else to say.
