From my local weather forecast.

"The Chiefs game Sunday will be great however the Thursday night's game maybe not so much. Still a week away where this could completely change but something to watch"

This could be interesting. i bet it changes a thousand times and nothing happens.

Bad weather is always better for offenses. Your offense knows which way everyone’s going; the defense doesn’t. Harder for them to change direction without slipping and falling.

I don't know. Rivers hasn't been bad in cold weather. Mahomes doesn't have the biggest of hands so I hope it doesn't affect his grip too much. Especially now when we're relying on our passing game more than ever. I think we'll be fine but I don't think it's a given that conditions fall in our favor.

Mahomes has strong hands and a good grip

Smaller hands but a better “grip” on the football than Rivers. He has immaculate ball handling and control of the ball, he can spin it like none other. It’s hard to explain.

He’ll be fine in cold weather, his “small hands” are an exception

Considerable cloudiness. Occasional rain showers in the afternoon. High 42F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

Rain and snow showers in the evening transitioning to snow showers overnight. Low around 30F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precip 40%. Snow accumulations less than one inch.

there is still a better chance of it not snowing or raining in Raytown Thursday than there is a chance

He's been fine in some of the conditions so far. Cold weather doesn't appear to be an issue. Snow and ice is something totally different. I think he will be fine. But he hasn't been tested in his young career. Even a little slipperiness could take away a deep passing game which is a big part of our attack.

One of the worst Ice Storms I have ever been in was in Texas, not too far from where Mahomes grew up. Of course close to the Gulf and South Texas are warmer, but the Central and Northern parts of the state do indeed get pretty cold.

'usually' snow storm predictions a week out, are rarely correct. Many times, they track more to the south and east as each day passes. Again, usually. Some do track north-but rare.

I have seen the European model hit better than the American model.

Andy Studebaker recovered a fumbled snap on the Chargers 'game winning' drive to end the game, which made it the worst day ever for phillip rivers.

There was no rain at this game, I was there. It was cool/cold but it wasnt weather. The previous year in the rain on MNF was terrible.

I'm sorry but I really can't possibly see how bad weather helps the Chargers at all.

There's a narrative being pushed...I've heard the following:

-The Chargers are the hottest team in the league right now. (They've won 3 in a row, barely beating CIN at "home".)
-The Chargers are built to beat the Chiefs. (Except they haven't beaten the Chiefs since 2013 and lost by 10 "at home" earlier this year.)
-Philip Rivers is so dangerous right now. (And Mahomes isn't?)

The narrative builds suspense, which I get. But I don't see any reason why the Chiefs don't wreck faces Thursday night.

Weather shouldn't be a problem for Mahomes, Lubbock,Texas had 8" of snow last weekend, and I assume it's not the first time they had bad winter weather.

We saw how well these Kalifornia types perform in cold weather a couple of nights ago. They're playing in conditions they aren't accustomed to, with a ton of injuries, on the road on short rest in a hostile environment where they haven't won for years. I know they'll have the ref$ on their side, but really, it shouldn't matter.

As a spectator, I would take 10 degrees and snow over 40 degrees, rain, and strong wind all day long. Tomorrow's forecast just looks debilitating if it materializes. Not looking forward to it at all, but I think it absolutely has to favor us, especially on a short week at home.

There's a possibility of some freezing rain as well.

Looks like the forecast is clearing up pretty well. Very low chances for in-game precipitation.

Just read this on the NOAA weather site. The zip code was for NKC area.

"Thursday Rain likely, mainly after 3 pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. Light north wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible."

A tenth and a quarter inch of rain?

That's not much.

Makes it slick and the ball wet. Tougher to make clean breaks and a wet ball hinders both QB and receiver.

Not debilitating but "a" factor.

It's even tougher for DB's to try to stay with a WR which is why slick conditions favor offenses.

Not debilitating but "a" factor. It impacts the D much, much more. he idea of a little bit of rain hampering offenses is somewhat of a myth.

For anyone interested, this is a pretty fascinating
https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/players/situational-stats/2018/493041/philip-rivers/

CBS has a pretty good breakdown on cold weather performance. Keep in mind that Rivers' worst performances seem to come in years where he was at his overall worst. And I don't know if his good performances were vs shitty defenses. I think it at least shows he's been up and down in the cold - probably not as consistently bad as he want him to be, but probably also not him at his best.

Exactly, that cold rain kept our score to only 45 and less than 400yds passing.Ok, I haven't read through the thread, so I am not sure if this is part of a running joke, but it didn't rain during the Bengals game. It really wasn't even very cold. But it was pretty windy.

I sat in the upper deck, at the 40, four rows off the rail, and was in short sleeves until the 3rd quarter, and the only reason I put my hoodie on was because the wind started picking up at halftime.

I know a lot of football purists think that it should be played outside on natural grass, but I think that a dome with a roof that can open, and a field turf surface, enhance the experience for the fans in attendance, and the fans watching at home.

Teams that are in states that are warm and sunny year round can have natural grass, but most teams are painting dirt in November, December, and January, and it sucks.

Building a successful football team, where tremendous team speed is a major asset and a big reason the team wins, but choosing a field that is basically dead grass and dirt for half the season, negating the team's speed advantage, is just dumb.

Just getting a covering up over most of the fans resolves this. There are a few stadiums that do this.

Its not very often we have to deal with rain but when it does rain, it fucking sucks and is miserable. Doesn't destroy my fun but man it would be nice to not have to worry about rain.
