I find it crazy that Bowles and Wilkes are likely to be fired. I mean, I thought that when you start a rookie quarterback that expectations are pretty low anyway. Seems like a coach should get a second season with that quarterback to see what he can do. Changing coaches usually means a change in system, so that rookie quarterback has to start over. That crap happened to Alex Smith over and over. It wasn't until he came to KC that he had consistency. And low and behold he had the best years of his career in KC. The best quarterbacks have had consistency in their coaches. But, whatever. I would take either one of them to replace Sutton if they're fired.

Yep. Jason Garrett and Marvin Lewis have both been very mediocre yet continue to keep their jobs. Although, I would say that Garrett has done better this year, so I'll say that he's probably earned another year this time. But he's had plenty of years that he should have been gone.

At least Garret has 1 playoff win. Can you imagine being the Bengals and going to the playoffs 6 out of 7 years and not winning a single playoff game. I mean the Chiefs have been pretty bad in the post season, but damn the Bengals are absolutely pathetic.

Doesn't sound like Lewis is on the hotseat at all. I just don't get it. Here's an article I found that says that the Bengals are going to let him stick around as long as he likes. 16 years, 7 playoff appearances, 0 wins, and a collapse this season filled with blowout losses. Coaches with much better records are fired every year.

The Cincinnati Bengals are giving Marvin Lewis the power to dictate the terms of his exit, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. As of now, the Bengals intend to let Lewis coach for as long as he wants.

Here’s what Schefter wrote about the situation:

If the Denver Broncos part ways with head coach Vance Joseph, he is expected to emerge as a candidate for the Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive coordinator job and potentially even their head coaching job when Marvin Lewis decides he has had enough of coaching, a league source tells ESPN.

The fact that the Bengals are setting themselves up with a plan of succession indicates that they’re preparing for Lewis to potentially retire in the near future. On the other hand, Lewis could decide to coach for five more years. And for now, the Bengals will honor that.

Considering the Bengals’ collapse this season (and in seasons past), it’s bizarre to see Cincinnati be so accommodating to a head coach who has zero postseason wins in seven appearances over 16 seasons. It would stand to reason Lewis would be on the hot seat heading into this postseason and into next season. That’s not what it sounds like.

Somehow, the Bengals are giving Lewis all the power.

Thats why bad teams are usually bad, they fire the head coach after their first year. What I dont get is what do these franchises expect with rookie starting qbs and these coaches have only had 1 season to get things into place. Id be pissed if I were these coaches, fans and players.

I would be shocked to see that. The Steelers have had less coaching changes than any team in the NFL in the Superbowl era. Do you realize that Tomlin is only their 3rd coach since 1969? That's job security. Most teams in the NFL have had 3 or more coaches in just the last 10 years.

The top HC candidates are:

John Harbaugh: Who would require draft picks to get and who Baltimore is now possibly extending.

Jim Harbaugh: QB controversy and underachieved at Michigan.

McCarthy: Couldn't consistently build a team around Aaron Rodgers.

McDaniels: Wigged out last year on Indy.

Flores: Intriguing prospect, but pretty unknown.

Jim Caldwell: Really?

Pure speculation.

You are basing this off of a smarmy tweet from Marty McDonald.

Anyone can connect the dots with Bowles/Reid if indeed the Chiefs move on from Sutton. Even if Harris/Smith weighed in more on the gameplan, there is no way the Chiefs leak that to give the impression Sutton has been neutered.

Personnel/draft picks under Veach hint there is a consideration to at least move to a hybrid scheme.

Marvin Lewis doesn't look appealing?

Refresher:

Lewis had coaching internships with the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers before being hired as the linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992. He was a member of the Steelers' staff when the team lost Super Bowl XXX to the Dallas Cowboys.

The newly relocated Baltimore Ravens (formerly the Cleveland Browns), hired Lewis as their defensive coordinator in 1996, a position that he held for six seasons (1996–2001). In 2000, the Ravens defeated the New York Giants 34–7 in Super Bowl XXXV thanks largely to a defense that allowed the fewest rushing yards (970) and the fewest points (165) in a 16-game regular season. "If ever a man proved his worth as a future head coach, Marvin Lewis did it with this complete domination of the Giants in their 16 possessions: Punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, interception, punt, interception, interception, punt, interception, punt, punt, punt, end of game", wrote Sports Illustrated writer Michael Silver after the game.

I completely agree. Losing Bienemy is not going to hurt at all. Nagy looks like a genius. How much did losing him hurt the Chiefs?

Ninety-nine percent of these guys are completely replaceable. The trick with coaching isn't to find a genius but to avoid a fuck-up that makes players worse--see Gunther Cunningham and Derrick Thomas, or almost any defensive-minded, conservative coach and a young QB.

Chicago went from a bottom 5 defense in 2014 to a top 15 one after Fangio joined them. He's kept that unit above average for four consecutive years.

Martindale worked under Peas since 2012 in Baltimore and they have had a history of success there.

Are you sure that you want to poach coaches from talent-laden defenses under the assumption that the coaches are the responsible parties for success instead of the players?

This is no different than taking a 49er backup QB or a Patriot coordinator/executive.

That's what I like about Ed Donatell. He was pretty good as a DC himself. Now that he knows fangios defense, I don't see why he couldn't be even better. What's great about fangios defense is in two places, not only did he make the five star dinner, he also shopped for the groceries.

I don’t get why Adam Gase is already apparently getting HC interviews... he had a Todd Haley in KC-like fluke playoff season and then mediocrity in Miami and his team quit on him.

JFC let him go be an OC somewhere to prove himself again.

The only mistake they made was keeping the stupid ass GM.

Kliff Kingsbury should donate a portion of his paycheck to Mahomes if he ends up getting hired for an NFL HC job.

Remember how I said the Packers are really a terrible organization that got lucky with 2 QBs? This is why I said it.

But on the flip side, there are a few established coaches that supposedly don't want to coach Aaron Rodgers because they view him as uncoachable and they know Aaron will get all the praise if they win and the coach gets all the blame in the losses despite Aaron constantly going rogue in games.

The guy worked with Kyle Shannahan and Sean McVay..two excellent teachers.

-Was RGIII’s QB coach when he looked really good as a rookie and 2nd yr.
-Was the QB coach for Everett Golson at ND in 2014 when he had his best season by far (29 TD’s with LeFleur; 23 combined TD’s in 2 years without him).
-Was Matt Ryan’s QB coach in his best season when they went to the Super Bowl.
-Was the OC in LA last year when the Rams offense exploded.

I think this guy is going to kill it with Rodgers.
