I'd take a healthy Berry around the LoS for sure. He's still a smart, heads up player who can tackle.

I like this. It's a heck of a lot better than Landin Collins 6 years/80+ million

A) years are shorter
B) If he gets hurt they are back to square one (terrible on the backend like last year) so this is only a net gain.
C) It almost guarantees at least someone that knows how to play football on the back end will be on the field for the Chiefs when Berry is day to day for 16 games next year.

Had 3 sacks, 5 TFL, 8 PD and 2 ints last year. Landon Collins had 0 sacks, 5 TFL, 4 PDs and 0 ints last year and only played 12 games. Honey Badger is 26 and Collins is 25. TM contract is 3/42 and LC contract is 6/84. So LC will still be under contract when hes 33 and TM wont even 30 when his contracts up. Definitely would say we made the right choice.

Won't Berry be down in the box, matching up with tes and playing the run?

No. No he will not. The only "box" Berry is going to be in is the new Kenmore deluxe-sized refrigerator box that he picked up for the overpass camp ground.

Eric Berry will not be playing football in 2019. So let's all stop pretending otherwise, please. Wednesday designation coming up!

I’ll take Tyrann at 3/42 a million times before I take Collins at 6/84. And most know that I wanted Collins pretty bad.

I just hope they use Mathieu in the most effective possible way. If so, he’s a great player.

I was going to rant about how stupid some of you guys are (seriously, open your eyes - $14m nowadays is nothing, a drop in the bucket - especially on short-term deals), but to be productive instead:

If you're a football nerd in general, I highly recommend you watch All or Nothing with the Cardinals, in which TM is heavily featured. He is going to be a GREAT addition. We don't have anyone like him from a leadership or energy standpoint on defense ... ironically other than public enemy #1. And he generally backs it up with his play. He has unreal instincts.

The problem I have with this theory is that Veach has to prove he'll do that. He had a golden, and I mean fucking golden, opportunity last year to fix the FS position for the long term by taking Jessie Bates and passed to talk a tweener defensive lineman that we now have to hope can hold Houston's jock strap much less be even remotely as productive. All this while significantly overpaying a free agent safety this year.

He isn't here as THE answer. He's here as a stopgap. You can still draft a Safety, find a big role for that rookie safety, and get a ton of production out of Mathieu at the same time. We are overpaying for players the next 2-3 years so we have the flexibility to jump ship if we need to. The cap the next 2 years doesn't matter that much as long as we build in the flexibility to open it up for Mahomes when we need it. We're doing that.

We were on our last game drive before leaving and our guide spotted something - his eyes lit up. It was a honey badger. He had been tracking game in the bush for a decade and it was only his third time ever seeing one of them. Lions and impalas and zebras and giraffes and whatever? Yawn. Who cares. This was special.

I'd have been very happy with that. Would rathered Clinton-Dix than both of those. I think Mathieu is a solid player but I think Houston was paying pretty much max on him at 10 per. 14 per is ridiculous.

They offered $11M, but it sounded like he wasn’t going to leave for just a bit more. Loved Houston.

Idk man, we could go back and forth on pros and cons for days. I think he’s a got true Pro Bowl potential and could be a big piece in getting them that elusive Super Bowl.

At least they aren’t sitting on their hands.

Mathieu was the fifth best run defense safety in the league last year

He looks like Collins with better ball skills
