Yeah, it's a slow off season right now, but there is some news.

Ten notable Chiefs due for unrestricted free agency in 2020
ByKIRK LARRABEE 23 hours ago

Too early to look into the future at some of the Kansas City Chiefs players set to become free agents after the 2019 season? Never. After all, the Chiefs have surely done it already, so why can't we?

Fans are already well aware of two big-name players in the final year of their contracts in Tyreek Hill and Chris Jones, but while those two represent the biggest decisions the Chiefs will have to make, there's a number of other players whose cases should prove interesting.

One of them is cornerback Kendall Fuller -- should the Chiefs go for an extension with him now, or do they wait to see how the 2019 season plays out?

And there's several players for whom the Chiefs probably will use 2019 as a guide when the time comes to make decisions for the future.

Here's a look at ten players of note set for free agency next year (per Spotrac.com). This isn't a complete list of 2020 free agents but does include some of the more notable names.

1. WR TYREEK HILL

Things are obviously in a holding pattern right now with Hill until his off-field issues are resolved. If he winds up being in the clear, the Chiefs will have a tough decision to make in terms of how much money to commit to him, assuming they are willing to pay what it would take to keep him. Reports from earlier in the preseason suggested they were, but now it's unclear if the latest off-field developments will change that. He's a unique player who won't be easily replaced if the Chiefs decide to move on.

2. DL CHRIS JONES

(Photo: Jay Biggerstaff, USA TODAY Sports)
Jones seems to be a player the Chiefs want to make a cornerstone of their defense for years to come. He'll be expensive to keep (a look at the top defensive tackle salaries in the league confirms that), but the Chiefs sound willing to make it happen. At this point he seems the best bet out of this group to not be a 2020 free agent much longer.

3. CB KENDALL FULLER

(Photo: Scott Galvin, USA TODAY Sports)
We're guessing the Chiefs likely are interested in keeping Fuller around long term, but it'll be interesting to watch this one play out. Will the Chiefs try to get it done before the start of the 2019 season, or will they make this decision further down the line? Fuller will cost a bit of money to hold onto if the Chiefs decide to give him an extension, albeit not as much as Hill or Jones.

4. LB REGGIE RAGLAND

Chalk this one up under the "too early to tell" category. Some have questioned how well Ragland will fit in Steve Spagnuolo's defense, so this could be a prove-it season in that regard. Chances are the Chiefs will want to see how Ragland's season plays out before making any decisions.

5. NT XAVIER WILLIAMS

(Photo: Jake Roth, USA TODAY Sports)
Williams figures to have a similar role in the defense that he did last season when he split time with starter Derrick Nnadi. This season should prove to be a good chance for him to put himself in a position to cash in during free agency next year, if the Chiefs don't re-sign him first. Williams is working with a pass rush specialist this offseason, which certainly won't do anything to hurt his value.

6. CB BASHAUD BREELAND

(Photo: USA TODAY Sports)
Breeland is in Kansas City on a one-year prove-it deal after his three-year, $24 million contract with the Panthers fell apart last spring due to injury. He wound up with Green Bay last season and now will have an opportunity to start in Kansas City and establish his value once again. If he plays well, perhaps the Chiefs could consider the possibility of him being a long-term piece later this year.

7. WR DEMARCUS ROBINSON

(Photo: Jordon Kelly/Icon Sportswire, Getty)
Robinson, who had 22 catches for 288 yards and four touchdowns last season, could find himself in a position to put up bigger numbers this year given the depth situation at receiver. The Chiefs have a number of young receivers on the roster and possibly more to come in the draft, so Robinson (and the others) will be out to prove they fit into the team's plans.

8. S ERIC MURRAY

Murray has played the role of starter as well as depth piece in his first three seasons with the Chiefs. Where he fits in this year remains uncertain, but it'll obviously go a long way towards determining his long-term status. There could be no shortage of competition for him at safety, with Tyrann Mathieu sure to take one spot and Daniel Sorensen, Armani Watts, Jordan Lucas, and maybe a drafted rookie among those who could compete for time with Murray.

9. QB CHAD HENNE

(Photo: Jay Biggerstaff, USA TODAY Sports)
Henne is in year two of a two-year deal he signed with the Chiefs last spring. He's a safe bet to remain in the No. 2 quarterback spot behind Patrick Mahomes this season, but it'll be interesting to see what the Chiefs do from there. The Chiefs likely will want to keep some veteran experience behind Mahomes in case of injury, it's just a question of if they decide Henne is once again the right choice.

10. RB CARLOS HYDE

(Photo: David Dermer, USA TODAY Sports)
Like Breeland, Hyde is in Kansas City on a one-year deal with a chance to show he deserves more down the line. He's bounced around a bit since spending the first four years of his career in San Francisco, as the Chiefs are now his fourth team (49ers, Browns, Jaguars) in just over a year. He'll be in a good offense to prove himself this season, but the Chiefs could also conceivably add more competition at running back in the upcoming draft.

Going global: Chiefs eager to finally return to Mexico ... and make inroads into China

I hadn't heard the NFL wants to go to China for a game. Why?

I've met Rod (he is from here and a high school classmate of a friend of mine). Other than being a dirty Donkey, he's a pretty nice dude.

Yeah Rod was one Donkey I could never hate. Wish we would have signed him to a contract he went undrafted.

We would have never developed him especially under the Marty/Gunther era with no QB.
