They're moving away from him, but even if they wanted to ride it out there's a great chance Hill would be suspended this year. Someone is going to have to play WR no matter what decision they make.

Watch a lot of Georgia. Heavy run offense. Don’t read to much into the total yards. He is has good hands, more than just a returner. He won’t be the complete WR Hill was but he has the speed and very fluid. He can be close to the WR this year that Tyreek was his rookie year. The pick makes since, it’s a good fit. I like better than DK

The twitter crap will blow over. Nick Bosa's going to one of the most liberal cities in the world and there are people trying to make a big deal out of his pro-trump, anti-kaepernick tweets and it doesn't seem to be working.

Only thing that slightly worries me is the kid has what appears to be a thin frame, but that hasn't stopped Desean Jackson. He's lightning on the field and I'm fairly confident Andy and Co. will figure out ways to make him productive.

Looks like the cowboys were interested with pick 58, according to beat writer Brian Martin,"The kind of skill set, versatility, and athletic ability Hardman possesses is rare and extremely difficult to come by. I think he's going to be a Tyreek Hill, Tyler Lockett, or DeSean Jackson type of offensive weapon in the NFL. He's just the kind of player you find ways to get the ball to and there's not a doubt in my mind he makes the Dallas Cowboys better from Day 1. That's why I'm pounding the table for him at 90th overall if he still on the board."

Serious question:

DK Metcalf, Riley Ridley, and Paris Cambell were all available. Why this guy over them? I'm asking because I have no preconceived bias for any of these guys and I want to know why Hardman was the best fit?

Metcalf isn't a quick, shifty guy. He has straight line speed.

Ridley never scared me at Georgia. I was always more concerned about Hardman.

Parris Campbell would have been a good choice too, but to me Hardman is faster and more agile in pads.

Absolutely. That’s what I saw when I watched both today.

You can almost see the implications running through his eyes. Can you imagine working your ass off your whole life to get to that draft, wanting to be a 1st round pick so badly, and then having to wait until day 2 to HOPE that you get the call?
And then when it finally comes, you're now the luckiest 2nd round pick in the entire house. That's got to feel good.

Who cares? Maybe the kid has some beliefs that are rooted in something like personal faith. Maybe he believes in survival of our species, you know that whole procreation thing? This absolute hysteria from this kind of shit is sickening. Even more so when someone here gets twisted over it. Of the things the matter FOR REAL in life, the opinion of a 2nd round NFL draft pick on two men bumping uglies surely doesn’t make the top 5 million. How about using that outrage and hysteria on something important like forcing change in how people with addictions are treated and brought back into society. Not me, I'm going to give him 8 games to see what he does.

I was all for Campbell either waiting until we picked or if we moved up. The difference in speed is .03 between these two. Yet Campbell was the more polished, route runner, more accomplished player in everything, except getting beaten by that blazing .03 speed. Campbell can return punts where Hardman was a Kick Returner. IMHO, a more accomplished route runner with " blazing speed " should return better results this year than a straight line runner that has to be taught routes, not only routes but a far more complexed system than in college. Shit anybody can run down the field on a fly!

As a Chiefs fan, I hope he works out. I really do,I want to see another SB win while I am alive. I want my sons and grandsons to experience the feel of it. Now with all of this said, Let's Go Hardman,get your jet packs fueled up!

Pre-Draft Analysis
Hardman is a speedy undersized receiver and return man with smaller hands and a small catching radius. He's at his best with the ball in his hands, and he's dangerous returning kicks, after the catch and running the football. Hardman has excellent intangibles

Post-Draft Analysis
Hardman runs a 4.33 40-yard dash and is raw as a pass-catcher but is an angle-destroying nightmare with the ball in his hands. If that sounds familiar, it's similar to the discussion we had around Tyreek Hill when he entered the league. With Hill's future clearly in doubt, Hardman doesn't offer insurance so much as a developmental option in that multipurpose/decoy role. -- Chris Sprow

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I called it the time we drafted, a reach, a project.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pre-Draft Analysis
Campbell is a highly explosive athlete with the second gear to threaten vertically and after the catch. He ran a limited route tree at Ohio State but developed more savvy as a route runner in 2018 and is quick transitioning out of breaks.

Post-Draft Analysis
The Colts signed Devin Funchess this offseason, but it's a one-year deal and they needed to continue to add depth. Campbell -- and his 4.33 40 speed -- gives QB Andrew Luck a big-play threat with the potential to develop into an excellent complement to T.Y. Hilton. -- Steve Muench

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why take on a project now when we need production now and it's wise / best to go with the all around well polished receiver, keep in mind the speed is .03 difference.
Who is going to have the better year this year?
Campbell in Indy.
Hardman in KC.
Just a simple question, both have good QB's.
Putting this here because its relevant:
Watch the 8 minute presser on KC Chiefs Facebook page and breaks down exactly how it happened.
- They had their eyes on him
- They were getting a lot of calls from teams trying to trade up to 61
- They got a call from the Rams trying to trade down
- They figured it was the time that the WR's were going to have a run, and didn't like how many teams were calling up
- Veach decided to pull the trigger
- They take Hardman
- After the pick, the Chiefs called back all the teams who were trying to trade up to 61 to see if they were interested in 63, and all the teams said "no, thanks."
- He then finds out from his scouts' connections that a lot of teams wanted Hardman
Really good speed, nice burst, looks like decent hands, and he doesn't catch with his body. Really like his efficiency making the head-fake. That was my biggest criticism of Metcalf; his footwork, especially on shorter routes was really sloppy. He was going to have a really hard time getting any separation until he learned better footwork.
Unbelievable what this kid can do in H.S... He kinda looks like Barry Sanders kid out there... A one man wrecking crew!
This guy at The Draft Network wrote a great article about Hardman and why he liked him more than any receiver in the class. The writer is apparently a collegiate wide receivers coach somewhere, actually.
Good read with GIFs too: https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/mecole-hardman-no-matter-what
On the surface, it's looks like a great match for us. YAC is so crucial to what we do and it looks like he excels in that dept. Reid should be able to bring this guy up with minimal learning curve.
Shame that we will never see him on the field with Hill. That would have been fun.
My instant reaction to this trade up and pick was "Why trade up for this guy when there are so many consensus better wide receivers still on the board?" and then I thought "oh god did we need a Tyreek "type" receiver to slot into a role in the play book just to avoid having to re-write half of the book and so had to take this guy rather than someone better?"
But, as I had more time to think about this, I actually really like it. First of all, I feel like Andy has proved to us all he knows how to use guys on offense and also build an offense around what he has, so if he wants this guy I don't mind a bit of reach for Reid to get his guy. This is very different to how I felt about perceived reaches on the defensive side of the ball last year.
And, I still think that maybe Campbell will be a more talent receiver career wise, but I really like what I saw from Hardman's highlights and if somehow he is on the field at the same time as Tyreek, then maybe we just created a monster. If not then Reid still got his guy to build the lateral sweep and screen game around as well as a genuine deep threat for Mahomes.
It's kinda scary how similar Hardman and Hill's draft profiles are...both strengths and weaknesses (excluding character).
I believe you’re going to be pleasantly surprised.
I just see a different fluidity to Hardman’s game that is rare. He’s a little raw no question, but with Mahomes and Reid, his talent will be maximized so long as he does his part with hard work.He has to know this is his best chance to get that $100 million contract at some point. You have the coach/QB/scheme to throw it deep to a speedy receiver. He got lucky to land here. He'd better go for that brass ring. Anything less than 100% would be unacceptable.
How do you defend him, Tyreek and Watkins?
All three guys are low 4.3 guys with good hands....
AND Parris Campbell was going to be gone anyway.
I kind of liked Campbell a touch more, but both were called 2nd round picks.
It's not a reach. If that's what Big Red wanted, and let's face it, THAT is the case, then it's all good.
If it makes you feel better, having watched parris Campbell a bit, he's never felt like a natural receiver. Dude is incredibly fast but just a year before he dropped everything thrown his way. I think he'll end up being a role gadget player than a true playmaker. I wouldn't mind both because we still haven't really replaced Albert wilson. But the limited I know of Hardman this pick seems better.
All three guys are low 4.3 guys with good hands....
Our krypyonite last year was when teams got to mahomes quickly. Even worse when they get pressure but they bracketed tyreek. Mahomes needs more options for quick throws. And much as I hate to say it, in many cases he needs to take those. We have to balance a deep attack with some short stuff. These elite qbs always seem to have an ultra reliable guy who just knows how to get open and catches every damn thing their way. I'm thinking guys like Ricky proehl, Randall Cobb, etc.... We saw Albert wilson thrive in that slot role even though he's not that great.
The suddenness and agility combined with the speed make him seem like a great fit for this offense. It’s great insurance on Hill regardless what KC does with that situation.
Listening to Veach's press conference... he said Toub was smiling wide when they drafted Hardman and mentioned that Toub thought he was the best returner "since Devin Hester that he had seen in a long time."
I had to do a double take here and rewind it. He said the exact same thing about Hill the day the Chiefs drafted him.
I feel like we've entered some realm of the twilight zone.
Campbell isn't a natural WR, a lot like Hardman he hasn't played it long. He's more of an athlete and Meyer basically didn't ask him to run many routes, just go deep or catch a screen and use your elite speed.
I'd like to see a video of Hardman when he gets handed Reid's playbook with all that complex terminology and two inches thick. I imagine he would have a WTF did I get myself into face expression.
He will do more studying after college then he did when he was in it.
CupidStunt
Hardman ran a lot of deep routes, and I've read that Parris mostly ran crossers and such despite his speed. Clearly Reid envisions him as his new DJax. I'm not even gonna go there with Hill. No matter what's happened, Hill is a top 5 NFL WR. DJax was/is a more limited but insanely sick deep threat. I'd take that all day long.
This absolute hysteria from this kind of shit is sickening. Even more so when someone here gets twisted over it. Of the things the matter FOR REAL in life, the opinion of a 2nd round NFL draft pick on two men bumping uglies surely doesn’t make the top 5 million. How about using that outrage and hysteria on something important like forcing change in how people with addictions are treated and brought back into society. It's probably more important that Mecole 'Fred Phelps' Hardman focus on getting up to speed as a punt returner than developing into a downfield receiver in the short run.
No Tyreek obviously sucks ass for the offense given Mahomes' arm, but I think you gotta at least give the guys on the roster a shot at proving if they can provide at least 60% of what Hill had in pass catching ability while Hardman contributes immediately as an impact returner.
My expectations:
700-800 yards 7 tds...
Strongest production comes at the end of the year.
Now this is fair for Hardman, especially the strongest part is towards the end. It's going to take sometime to really get up to speed on Reids complexed offense, learning all of the plays, where to be, where to go, etc.
I would be thrilled with this production.
Robinson has to have the same type of number's to help offset the loss of Hill.
Kelce has to pick up some extra catches and yards this year,
I guess to each their own, but I didn’t see anything outstanding about Campbell as a receiver. Felt like 90% of his highlights were screens and jet/orbit motion plays.
Hardman just looked more natural with the ball in his hands too. This kid understands the mentality of a corner as well and uses it to his advantage.
All we need him to do in year one is be a true deep threat that defenses have to respect over the top. Give him a year or two to polish his routes, and we could have a T.Y. Hilton/DeSean Jackson type of receiver here. His raw talent is that good.
“Hardman might go from 0-60 faster than anyone”... anyone know his 40?
M. Brown 4.24
M.Hardman 4.24
T. McLauren 4.26
P.Campbell 4.27
A.Isabella 4.27
All of these guys had lightening straight line speed.
None of those names me anything to me besides Hardman. Isabella is a girls name and Campbell only belongs in the soup game.
@ROYC75: Hill was able to learn Reid's complex offense, it shouldn't be a problem for Hardman. He's gotta a little Randle El and Hines Ward in him as far as quarterbacking goes...
2017 highlight clip of Hardman: https://youtu.be/tKKMX2TvuT0
He really just has a suddenness to his game that I love. Zero hesitation or sign of deceleration from start to finish. He’s constantly pulling away from DBs in the open field. Eats up cushions quickly.
Even shows a lot of promise with deep out routes in this one.
Well, he was right there in plain site, they went over him.
Campbell was the better fit for our team, NOW with the Hill situation.
More complete player vs A Speedy Project (keep in mind only a .03 difference in speed!)
It was a reach, Hardman was at best a 4th rd selection.
So now you know more about the better fit for our team than the GM and coach. Cmon man, get over the butthurt of not getting the guy you wanted and move on.
I'd like to see a video of Hardman when he gets handed Reid's playbook with all that complex terminology and two inches thick. I imagine he would have a WTF did I get myself into face expression.
He will do more studying after college then he did when he was in it.
Yeah but how hard can it be if Hill caught on?
I'll trust Reid and his evaluation of offensive talent.
