900+

It doesn’t have the abort and hover button like the arcade game. Just sayin’

I've landed at 11 with no trouble and have made hard landings at up to 24.

I hit 1,100 now.

Never played this one with my Atari, decent game - 950 after my 3rd try, basically once I figured out how not to crater, etc. I'll give it a couple more rounds

I've successfully landed at VS=12 f/s. HS=13 f/s (not during the same landing). I suggest trying to shoot for VS=10 f/s.

If you got 1400 then you've probably got most of this figured out. It's probably just practice at this point. The "trick" is to not waste fuel, understand that some landing areas are just tricks to make you waste fuel, and you're trading fuel consumption for extra landings.

Hint: the star field is always the same. They can be used as 'waypoints' for trajectory/VS/HS velocity adjustments.

DAMMIT!!!!!!!

Literally 2 points of fuel away from an 1800. Had her lined up for a 200 point final landing after getting to 1600 and was slowing down right like I needed to and at the last possible second ran out of juice. Hit at 17 F/S and didn't get it done. 2 more drops of fuel and I get it powered down enough.

I want that 1800 now...

Got it! 1800 with 155 left to spare in fuel. Thought I had a shot at hitting that wide 100 point landing spot on the far side of the tall hill but couldn't get it slowed down quite enough and blew apart at impact.

So 1900+ is now the impossible dream....

I'm officially angry with it now. I've had 3 'makeable' efforts at 1900 after getting 1800 with some fuel to spare and just keep coming up a hair short on fuel.

I've gotten to where I will only target 4 different landing zones (the 4x almost directly under you, the 4x at the top of the hill, the 5xs on either side of the hill) and I'm trying to figure out how to effectively land them blind using nothing more than my vertical/horizontal speed and giving/removing thrust at certain points.

This is a sickness. This is not healthy. GOD DAMN YOU LUNAR LANDER GIVE ME 50 MORE TICKS OF FUEL AND I WILL OWN YOU!!!!!

Had 125 units of fuel w/ 1800 points, let it carry the top of the hill and then just blasted the jets as late as I could knowing I was probably gonna end up with a 'hard landing'. Hit the ground with 0 fuel at 17 v/s and got 30 points for being hopelessly marooned - zero fucks given.

Fresh of that success came the last assault...

I have seen the mountaintop and it is 1900. I don't think I can get above that. I actually had 88 units of fuel after that but I think the least amount I can get points out of is 96 (and it's mostly just blind luck if I get it right there).

I suck at this. Crash every time. I assume that the up arrow is booster?
But when I push the up arrow the game locks up

It's probably your browser. I'm using Safari and it works just fine.

Used a different browser and it works. Still crashing every time and using fuel rapidly. I think I will stick to the ground as I am not NASA material.

FINALLY. got to 1800 four times with at least 140 units of fuel and kept crashing!!! Now I can finally quit playing this game!!!

Basically you have to nail for your first three landings and use less than 320 units of fuel. Then you have a chance to break 1800 pts. So, for the 4x directly below the lander, I try to use no more than 110 fuel pts. For the 5x on the left side of the first mountain, I try to use less than 100 fuel pts. For the 4x on top of the mountain I try to use less than 80 fuel (once I somehow stuck that one with 67 fuel pts.).

The 5x on the little shelf on the lower right side of the mountain can be done with 110 fuel pts. The 5x on the little hill to the right of the mountain is the fuel burner; I did it once with 120 fuel pts, but my average is 150 for that one.

I had 90 fuel pts left after I hit 2050, but I was so geeked I crashed that one. So depending on if the mountain top 4x is available at that point, one could see 2250, I guess. I did waste a little fuel here and there so it might be possible to see 2350?

Some other helpful hints:

Line up your approach as early as possible, and as high as possible without wasting fuel. So for example, for the 4x directly below the lander, I simply hold the thrust button down until my HS reads -8 up to -10 f/s. Then quickly rotate the ship 90 degrees and wait for my VS to reach 93 f/s, and again hold the thrust button down and slow the ship down, until it reads less than 45, then tweak my approach if necessary, and tap whatever necessary thrust to make the landing.
Note: if I end up with a HS of say -7, instead of trying to fool around rotating the ship and thrusting, I simply make the allowance, and begin retro-thrust early, about 85 VS. This is easier than rotating about and trying to add or subtract your horizontal velocity component.

If you null out your HS to 2 f/s or less, you can touch down safely at up to 14 f/s VS. In general, 11 f/s VS is low enough to safely land.

Best HS approach speed seems to be about 8 f/s (+/-).

Don't let your VS exceed 97 f/s for any landing. You'll never slow down in time.

Try not to get slower than 10 f/s descent rate; 1-9 f/s descent rate is just wasting fuel.

I'm not positive about this one, but I think when you have less than 150 units of fuel, the ship consumes fuel faster for some reason. Get lined up early on the last landing.
