It's not so much the temp here. During the 7-8 months of summer here, the temps stay in the mid 90's, combine that 80-90% humidity and it becomes swamp ass hell. 110 with 65% humidity is more bearable than 95 with 84% humidity

LA - perfect weather as usual. I went hiking on San Bernardino Peak today - gorgeous. I could have also surfed (if I knew how), hung out in the desert, golfed, sailed, or done pretty much any other outdoor activity.

This time last year (a week later) I was in KC and it was so hot no one was outside - even at sunset. Sad. In LA the streets are flooded with people going for walks on a gorgeous day at sunset - which again is most days.

But none of you want to live in California because you believe all the propaganda you see on your teevees. Thank God for that - we have enough people.

No fucks given on my end. It’s auto debited and most months I just check to be sure it’s not out of line and toss that bitch. I couldn’t tell you what the number was, just a ballpark. The incremental cost of a couple degrees certainly isn’t enough to suffer on my end. I literally cannot stand just sitting around sweating and I can’t fucking sleep if it’s very hot. Apparently I burn hotter than most folks. So I just don’t do it. I’ve done it. It sucked I kicked down the thermostat and that sucked less than being hot. So that’s what I do.

I have a monster 3 1\2 ton AC unit and it's everything for it to keep this place at 73.
Fortunately my house has 2 units and Andersen windows, all but like 4 of which don’t even open so it’s pretty tight.

I also live in the desert and don’t have to dehumidify.

I try brother, but no...

I've learned that pretty-much three things make things suck (in no particular order or priority):

* Heat
* Humidity
* Lack of green grass to walk in

That's why, and it's JMO, so much doom and gloom exists as "countries" between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Yet you get north of Cancer, or south of Capricorn, and you start finding some of the happiest "countries" in the world. Fuck heat... If you're on the same latitude as Central America or Somalia, you might/probably suck as a country.

That being said, it's acceptable to visit tropical locals to dive... Not to waste your life sitting in/on one of God's worst creations (sand), but to get there, get in the water, then retreat to a room with air conditioning.

But hey, that's just me...

If anything it's over sized. Went through the whole system last month, cleaned the hell out of the condenser coil, checked the charge, delta T was sitting at 19. I'm guessing as in so many cases it's an airflow issue. Suppose it's possible the evap coil isn't properly sized, that's one thing i have not yet checked.

There’s a lot of wisdom in this post. Some of it, like high humidity, almost goes without saying, but there are some little appreciated gems in here too like your insight into sand. I know a lot of people who don’t understand that one.

It’s fine. You just adjust your outside schedule. No outside activities between 12p-7p unless you’re in or near a pool or lake(gross out here but some people still go). The only thing that sucks is basically August. That dry heat shit goes right out the fucking window when a daytime storm hits. Later that afternoon we’re looking at 108 with humidity. Also if it’s late October and still pushing daytimes of 100, it gets old. But.....72 degree “winter” so it’s worth it!

Our electrical company has a 'service' that you can add a meter that will shut off your AC for a few hours at peak electrical usage.

Why the hell would I want that. My house will go up to 80. Then it will take more time and electricity to drop the temp to what it should be for me to be comfortable. They credit you 75 bucks to have this. Ummm. No.

LA - perfect weather as usual.

Did you have to zig zag through all the 60,000 homeless to enjoy your day?

Oh yeah it's already out. I'll throw on my trunks and sit in there with him lol. No shame when the air feels like soup.

You’re all pussies. I live 2 miles from the Missouri River and it’s flooded 3 times since late March. No water or electricity. I have to transport everything by boat since the road to get to my place was washed out.

Run a generator for about 3 hours a day to try and keep food and water cool in the fridge.

On Friday I made 3 trips of transporting supplies on an inflatable kayak about 1/2 a mile through knee deep water, then strap supplies on a wagon and pull it about 3/4 of a mile to my boat.

I think I was on the tv from some station in Kansas City. He took drone video of me going through the water. You see me? If so, which station was it?

Sorry, but that doesn't make us pussies. That makes you an idiot for living where you do.

Ummm. No.

Yesterday was not bad. Had worse. Sat outside for a grad party. Tent, a few clouds made the perceived temp feel better.
I noticed one of those boxes attached to our unit when we bought the house this spring, but we didn't sign up for the plan. Then a few weeks ago i noticed the air coming out of the vents wasn't cool, so I went out to check it, sure enough that goddamn thing had us shut down. 5 minutes later it was disconnected and lying on the ground. I knew i should have pulled that sum bitch off there as soon as i saw it.

They are not trying to save energy for you per say, they are trying to keep from having brown outs, etc.Yes, this is true, but they do it under the guise of possible energy savings in your wallet. Whatever makes it sound better to the customer.

Last winter, after shoveling my property for the sixth, seventh, eighth time, I told myself I wasn't going to bitch and complain come summer. Instead, when sweaty and wet, I'd think about wind chill, ice and snow, and all the miles I'd have to share bad roads with clueless drivers. It's working so far. No complaints here.

Well you know as well as I that means the unit is not sized correctly.
Someone did not run the Manual J properly or it wouldn't be struggling to attain 73.

Maybe it just needs the filter replaced or cleaned.

Only if you live downtown. We have about a half dozen permanent homeless residents in Redondo Beach - mostly old ladies who push little carts around - but one tall guy who looks like he could be a CEO if he wasn't crazy.

I think if a new homeless person shows up the cops run them off.

LMAO. You've never been to Kansas have you? Always cracks me up when Floridians chime in on heat.

I grew up in Kansas. Little town just north of Manhattan called Randolph. Couldn't wait for the Air Force to take me away. Moved to Wamego after I got out. Came back to Florida because I couldn't find a decent job there.

Actually, I did this same thing for my loft.

If you bought an energy efficient one which helps it'll be more savings but it should be some anyway. So far my electric bill is cheaper running an extra window AC with my central cause the central kicks in less.

Yep, we have a portable unit we setup in the living room for this part of the summer. Hell it's why we have the home office (I telework) built on the slab part of the finished basement, on the east side. Hell, I should have finished the subbasement, it's always cool down there... Fuck seeing outside, I'm a submariner!!! But alas, the wife HAS TO HAVE HER PLACE TO STORE HER JUNK. :cuss:

And I don't care about the electric bill, I HATE HEAT... :#
