View Full Version : Misc What will be Mahomes first moment of adversity

Yeah, Mahomes is the best player in the NFL.

However, he has never really faced any NFL adversity, let alone adversity over a few weeks- the guy just performed all year.

It is inevitable that he’ll have some type of struggle, choke away a game, or have a poor stretch where the blame is mostly on him. The media will lap that shit up, I can see the headlines now “Mahomes is regressing” etc. Then he makes the media eat shit.

Anyways,

My guess for this first adversarial moment is: we lose back to back games where Mahomes throws a few brutal picks and fumbles. One game is not his fault, but one game he “fumbles it away like Jamaal against the Broncos”.

What do you think? If your answer is “never”, you might not be wrong.

The first half of the Broncos game was his first moment of adversity and we won with left handed trick shots

All good replies- I guess i mean over the course of a few games. He’s for sure faced in game adversity and overcome.

Perhaps another loss to the patriots in the playoffs? Media would turn it into Pats>Pat. God, imagine?

So you're saying when is he going to have a multi-game skid and how will he respond.

I guess my answer is that barring injury I don't think he'll have that. And if he does I think he'll respond with hard work and intelligent film study.

what I'm saying is, he's Peyton Manning.

Ummm, the first half of the AFC Championship Game and the ending...I bet that game has been eating away at him, and he's motivated, and he's not going to have any type of sophomore slump.

The guy lost his starting rb to suspension. Tyreek got hurt last year. Half of his OL last year were backups because of constant injury. Every time he built a commanding lead, his defense blew it for him. Including three times on national TV where every dumb critic somehow asked if he wasn't clutch. In the second half, defenses started to adjust to him somewhat and he had to battle them with half his starting roster and a defense that was the most frustratingly bad in the league. Then he goes to an afc championship game, bellichick frustrates him, he bounces back with a great second half only to have his defense blow it again. There were rumors that he was cursing and screaming in the locker room pissed off about the Patriots loss. Pat has bounced back multiple times. You just wouldn't know it because his bouncebacks were surrounded by repeated failure from his defense

Of course he will face worse adversity in his career. He's also seen a lot of it already.

The first time he'll have to hold three Lombardi trophies with two hands?

J/K

I mean it's pretty standard...he's already faced some, there could be health issues from time to time (nobody escapes that), cap issues when they have to pay him, a new head coach down the road, but nothing that other great QB's haven't dealt with.

Not worried.

I don't know that it's ever been confirmed. But when the rumors came out, it didn't sound like he was whining or throwing anyone under the bus. Just a competitive guy who thinks losing is unacceptable.

To bad Houston, Hobospirit and Ford wasn’t directly in the path of that outrage. Gee, wonder why all 3 are gone now? You’re either on the PMII Express or you get left at the station.

Didn’t people and the media blame him for the Rams loss? Even he said he “basically gave them 21 points.”

They said they’d lose to Indy because he “couldn’t win a big game”.

Semi already there and Pat needs to nip that narrative in the bud this season because the last thing he wants is a Peyton Manning rep of getting you a great season record with great individual stats but no championship always losing to Brady.

I don't know about this. Belichick owned him in the first half of the AFC championship with a Super Bowl on the line. It doesn't get too much bigger than that.

A lot of first year starters would have collapsed, but he came out in the 2nd half and lit it up.

Let's see, in his 1st season as starter he's had to:

Take over an NFL franchise
Earn the trust of his teammates
Go 12-4 as a 'rookie'
Play the (arguably) best QB in history in the AFCCG
Battle through a couple heartbreaking, possibly season ending losses

I'd say he's had his 1st moment of diversity. The kid is so good he just makes it look easy.

His biggest margin of defeat was 7 points. The opposing team scored 38.

No one in the NFL has seen anything like him. Ever.

I don't care what you guys say- Mahomes is going to have some real issues in a few years.

His trophy case is going to be full and they will be laying all over his house. He will be using SB MVP trophies as doorstops just to find a use for them.

It worries me that he might trip over one of his NFL MVP trophies and stub a toe.

Don't even want to think about it, because the only adversity that he's not going to surmount with effort and study with his skillset is the adversity you don't want to think about.

He's not going to get lazy, or confused, or wallow in a tantrum about team dynamics. He's not going to have an Achille's heel opponent that has him figured out beyond his ability to adjust.

Physics, entropy and luck are his only nemeses, so lets all pretend they don't exist for the moment.
