I will take Shurmer as back up, Litton on PS and send Henne packing. Henne is really bad.

Apparently you want the veteran backup, no matter how bad he is.

Shurmer really has been able to move the offense. I know he doesn't have a big arm, but I like the results he gets.

I like the idea of keeping Shurmur. You might be able to trade him for a draft pick, nobody would want Henne for a draft pick.

I feel something when Shurmur is in. With Henne I feel like straight 3 run plays are incoming.

I would absolutely trade Henne to the Colts. The colts would be smart to tank because they have talent and can’t back on track in a few years with a good qb in draft. I don’t think Ballard would do it unless it was a 6th or something. He values his draft picks as much as anyone.
Henne is trash, veteran or not, it’s not like he has the arm that worries defenses. If Mahomes is out it’s going to be RPO’s, screens and running. I would take Shumer because he can run a little as well and he can do all those things I mentioned above almost as well as Henne imo.

Shurmur would probably get snatched off the PS.

Shurmur would probably get snatched off the PS.Possible but I doubt it. But if that's really an issue and you really think Shurmer is a long term NFL backup, then you keep 3 and sacrifice somewhere else on the roster

You still need Henne here for 2019. Mahomes is still (almost) 24 and new to the league. There are still things Henne might see Mahomes isn't familiar with. Things that Shurmer wouldn't recognize yet, either.

Then you let Henne go in the 2020 off-season, and go with Shurmur long term.

And it doesn't really matter how either one of them plays. If Mahomes goes down for more than a game or maybe two at the outside, the team is done. Henne at this point doesn't need to be on the field in the regular season, and Shurmur may not ever be capable of more than holding a clipboard on game day. And that's fine.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see what they do. I'm a fan of the veteran backup situation.

I think Shurmur would get picked up based on name alone. Not just a coach's son, but an NFL coach's son. Super smart kid, went to Vanderbilt, tough kid from the SEC. Teams eat that shit up.

Pretty much this. I hear the opinion about a vet backing PMII and we might even win a couple games with him, but he's history after this year. I had high hopes for Litton, but clearly he's in the #4 spot right now. Maybe it's time to roll the dice to get a long term #2 with Shurmer. We've had worst starting QBs.

No way they'd do it...but they ARE pretty deep at safety...I'd trade Henne for a 6th rounder and a pack of chewing gum though.

Fuck Henne, he makes WAY too much to suck that hard.

I like Schurmur too but no interest in having him with virtually no experience as our primary backup in a season where we're expected to win the Super Bowl.

Henne is gone after this year. Throw Schurmur on the PS and hope he shows enough to earn the back-up job next season. Otherwise, sign another experienced journeyman and continue to try to develop a cheaper option.

Not crazy about Henne. But if we lose mahomes for the year, Id want Lytton or shurmur to get a shot since the season is over. If we lose him for 2 games, not sure I trust them to steal a win or two as much as I'd trust Henne

I'd like to see Daniel back on a 2 for 8-10 type deal next year. He might be able to keep us in it if Mahomes is down for a month or so.

Uh, no. He sucks, probably on tbe way out of Chicago.

Shumur hasn't earned the roster spot IMHO. But I'm willing to keep him @ #3. Keep Litton, has the big arm since we have the horses at the WR spot.

Let Henne walk. Our QB coach & Andy can keep PM2 in check.

I don't think Shurmer makes it past waivers...

He's at least as good as Henne, and way cheaper.

Henne CAN'T be that valuable in the film room...can he?

Shurmer shouldn't even make the practice squad. He most assuredly isn't as good as Henne - and that's not to say Henne is actually good.

Shurmer is like taking Alex Smith and turning all his sliders down to 50%. He would make Nate Peterman look like a Pro Bowler.

I’d be shocked if they gave Henne walking papers. Andy loves him a vet in the QB room.

Henne will be here this year, then he'll walk as we save money and yes Kyle Schurmer is likely to be a long term cheap backup option.

Shurmur in the qb room could be more valuable since the systems he has played in are more similar to what mahomes has done, vs henne playing in the more of the old nfl. I say cut Henne, keep shurmur, practice squad litton. Shurmur is also a coaches son, could act older in the qb room than he is.

oldman
08-26-2019, 09:21 AM
I don't think Shurmur makes it past waivers either, so now you have to put him on the 53 if you want to keep him. That said, I like Litton better just because he has the big arm like Mahomes and we could keep our vertical game in place. All the speed in your WR corps doesn't mean diddly if your QB can't throw it more than 25 yards. However, it appears Andy likes Kyle better.
Either way, we're going to have to look at a new #2 next year. I just can't Henne brought back and other vet QBs are in short supply. Fitzpatrick, Bridgewater, or a host of other brokedicks?? No thanks. So do you roll the dice and go with Kyle or Chase and hope the MVP doesn't go down? Face it, it doesn't matter who you have in that #2 spot this year to reach our ultimate goal, a SB win.

Why the Schurmer love here? He doesn't have an NFL arm, so to keep him as a development QB makes no sense. Litton has the arm, I like what he showed last year in preseason. Now if Litton can be traded thats another story. Maybe someone comes available and you cut them both.
