The Star had to push her out.

Reporting is about relationships, especially if you want to break news.

I hope her 15 mins of fam was worth it because she gave up the opportunity to cover guys like Mahomes and the Chiefs in what has to be the most exciting season ever.

Yeah, ESPN isn't going anywhere.

They can underwrite losses there for decades and if it gets the mouse house exposure that they can plow into making money in other divisions, they'd just use ESPN as a loss-leader if they had to.

No, this is a sweet-ass gig for Pryor.

We win - because she's gone. She wins because she ended up where she'd rather be anyway. ESPN and whatever idiot niche division she's tucked into now will almost certainly be there long after the KC Star has been sold to some other conglomerate and she gets downsized. And I'm sure she's getting a raise out of it. And she'll get to leave this cowtown she clearly loathed from the start.

I wish her nothing but bad things. She's just a complete piece of shit.

Dumb.

Glad she's gone.

She's from North Carolina, she used Joe Mixon to get out of Oklahoma and this to get out of here, she has absolutely no desire to work in the midwest. Her entire goal was to use social justice stories to get to a national presence where her personal views will be accepted as the norm.

They have no long-term future. Technology allows for disintermediation. We can contract directly with the leagues to get content. Why cut in a middle man into the profits when you don't have to? ESPN will exist only as long as Disney allows them to lose money by overpaying for TV rights.

Which would mean what to her exactly? She clearly doesn't like the Chiefs and doesn't know shit about football.

She doesn't have the chops to use it as a springboard to bigger things like her predecessors. She didn't have the chops for THIS job; she'd already been peter principled.

And yet she STILL managed to make a move to a more stable company that will probably end up trying to shoehorn her into {shudder} television spots and eventually make her just another soldier in their stupid little social justice army. She'll be brought on to further smear Hill anytime an athlete does something untoward (because you KNOW they'll mention it when they're trying to establish her bonafides).

In the end she was rewarded for these fucking shenanigans.

I was hoping she'd end up at the goddamn Wichita Eagle or some other such nonsense.

Exactly.

She has one song and she evidently plays it well. She's the Toni Basil of media - so long as people will pay her to sing Hey Mickey, she's gonna sing it.

She'll do the same shit at ESPN and you can bet your ass she's gonna keep her sites on KC because she's gonna try to come down hard on them if she ever gets a shot after the heat she's taken here.

I would not be at all surprised if the Chiefs are leading the AFC near the end of the season, or if any report were to come out about anything, that she'll be on ESPN trashing Veach, Reid and everyone talking about what awful organizational culture we have and she experienced it.

Of COURSE she will.

I don't think anyone has any concept of how awful she'll be when she has ESPN at her back. They'll encourage her. They'll do everything they can to get her to just blast away at the Chiefs. And now there are no consequences for it so what the fuck does she care?

Again, you can see the writing on the wall here. She'll pay dues for a year or so and then soon enough, anytime an athlete is implicated in a violent act they'll introduce her as "Brooke Pryor, who broke the Joe Mixon and Tyreek Hill stories..." and then relitigate that shit.

Remember, ESPN still refuses to even consider the possibility that Hill didn't beat his kid. They were still doubling down. At least in KC she had to deal with backlash from her readers but at ESPN she's just going to get to preach to her own little choir.

But ESPN is still profitable. Not AS profitable, but it's still making money. And so long as it isn't losing absurd amounts of money, Disney can still use it as an avenue to a completely different demographic to push their other money making ventures.

ESPN presently makes money but even if that changes, it's a textbook example of a loss-leader that may not look great on a balance sheet but can help the company in other ways.

Do you really think ESPN will cease to exist in 5 years? 10? 20?

ESPN will be around for a loooong time, to the chagrin of pretty much everyone.

There was a tweet about hearing the full tape and bringing the cut Hill to a stop. He also distanced himself from Kietzman as well.

Yeah, Keysor and Taylor apologized. As did Mellinger (sorta).

The problem with Pryor wasn't even that she was a useful idiot for someone looking to get back at Hill - it's that she just went radio silent after she got exposed for it. She never so much as issued a tepid retraction, let alone the full blown apology it deserved.

There's a clear distinction between the behavior of some members of the media and then Pryor, Rosen and KCTV5.

Eventually people like her who report opinion as fact will catch the eye of the NFL for conduct detrimental to the league and put pressure on those who continue to hire them.
ESPN is becoming less and less watchable with so many opinion based shows.
They will have to reel it back in at some point. What the KC media chose to do was bad, if she continues to just make a habit of it there is just no way its taken care of behind the scenes.

Disney is going to give Disney+ Hulu and ESPN+ for the price of base netflix....seems like a better deal than netflix to me.

Disney will not keep the prices low forever. They will eat the cost for awhile. But currently Netflix is not in danger. They switched to content control awhile ago. And their content keeps people coming back. Look at hbo, people only got it for game of thrones, junk after that. Netflix keeps the series and movies coming frequently. Again, they will be ok. If they are smart they partner with a internet provider or cellphone company.

Disney plus 7
Disneyplus, Hulu with ads, espnplus 13
Netflix 9

Most people will just get both for the two bottom tier prices. The bundle sucks at 13. Fuck ads and espn is overrated nowadays with internet news. Most games I want to watch are local games.

I'm not sure anybody on any side of this has learned the real, important lesson, that being that you can't make snap judgments on any story in this social media-fueled instant gratification-/confirmation bias-filled world we live in now. She reported something that wasn't fact, when sourcing her information should have been her first step as a journalist. The story then took off nationally, and anybody who wasn't in Kansas City condemned him immediately. So, for me, this is as much about the reaction to her misinformed and ultimately misleading story as it is about the story itself. And I haven't seen any indication that the world at large has learned anything from this.

But I have been, and continue to be, disappointed by some of the reactions and behavior here. She did something intrinsically wrong, something monumentally stupid, in my opinion, and as a consequence she should be looking for work elsewhere. But let's not pretend like there's any kind of justification for the way she's been talked about by some of the posters here, not that I think she ever saw much of it. But either way, jumping on her at this point has nothing to do with defending or supporting Tyreek Hill, or trying to change anything for the better in the aftermath of what really was a miscarriage of journalism, both by her and by KCTV.

I get it. I'm happy she's moving along, too. And I wish she'd have at least once taken responsibility for her part in this story, and the impact that it's had on the last 6 months of Reek's life. But all that calling her a fat, stupid bitch is gonna do - all that it has done - is make her ignore us as a group of ****ing assholes, and there's no chance - because however small it might have been at first, it's zero now - that she's ever going to hear anything we might have to say, anything that could have led to her reflecting upon or even changing how she operates. And how KCTV operates.

And that, to me, is a shame. Because some people here had it right from the beginning. But then it got lost in all the angry bullshit.

She was never going to listen to you anyway.

Again - she's not interested in anyone that will tell her what she did was wrong. She's of the 'woke' crowd that thinks making an omelet will require some broken eggs. The ends will ultimately justify the means in her mind.

She wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, regardless of your attempts at being a white knight here. Because you don't fall in line with her agenda.

I'm not sure why you'd bother wasting your breathe defending her - she would NEVER defend you.

The only reasonable grounds for criticizing people for their attacks on her is that they aren't funny or creative. If someone calls her fat, that's just boring and lame. But the person that pointed out that she got scooped on her own damn departure - that's just funny right there. As for confirming her bias or making tune us out or whatever - nonsense. Her bias was never open to alteration and she was never listening to us anyway.

I don't care what anyone says to her - I just wish they'd be more interesting in doing it. The semi-trailer for her limo, for instance. Now that's just good fat shaming right there.

Keg in KC makes excellent points. Pryor is a stain on the KC Star's record. Her "reporting" was shameful, biased, and destructive. The personal attacks on her, however, were egregious and got in the way of the true problem: she led a smear campaign against a man who very likely was totally innocent. That's what you go after her for. You can do that while remaining gentlemen, and all it does is strengthen your point.

I was hoping for tar and feathers, but whatever ... I understand the issue.

We can find enough tar, but killing 8000 chickens just to encapsulate run one girl seems excessively cruel to the chickens.

No, they weren't doing their job properly, but it was CLEAR to literally everyone who was paying any sort of attention that not only did we not have "all" the facts, but we didn't really have anything at all on which to base an opinion. The "tape" seemed to upset a ton of people, but it didn't really saying anything conclusive AT ALL.

Ultimately, Chief Fan wanted to be upset and let their confirmation bias lead the charge.

There is certainly some truth to this, especially when it comes to the issue of Hill. He was a controversial pick to begin with and no doubt there are Brooke Pryors in the fan base waiting for an opportunity to pounce.

However, I do not believe you can discount the “because Chiefs” effect. Especially on the heels of the Kareem Hunt issue. I know my initial reaction to the story when it first broke was in essence, “Well fuck, here we go again. And why not? Because Chiefs!” Now it didn’t take me long to start hating on the media’s mishandling of the story and then ultimately to start asking some questions, but I understand why many had trouble getting past the “we can’t have nice things” mentality and just accepted what they were being told. It is, sadly, what we have come to expect as Chiefs fans because that is just the way it has been.

Thankfully that era seems to be just about dead.

You think ANYONE would rush to coddle Adam Teicher's feelings had he fucked up as badly as Pryor has? Where were all these folks running cover for Whitlock when we called him a lardass for a decade?

Pandering little 'allies' want to make themselves feel better by defending poor Brooke Pryor's honor when all she did was manipulate information to attempt to deprive a young man of tens of millions of dollars.

I've been pondering this.

Who has the better job - Adam Teicher or Sam Mellinger?

Teicher's is probably more stable. I'm not sure if it's better paying. And I'm not sure if there's more exposure.

That SB Nation regional football coverage really gets stuck in a corner. I know I wouldn't ever stumble onto anything Teicher writes but/for it getting posted here.

When it comes to having a specific beat - I think the paper job might be the 'better' job, even if the ESPN job is likely to be more stable.

I dunno - I could probably be convinced either way but I'm not sure there's a clear answer.

I DO know that the KC Sports media landscape is significantly improved by their departures. So it's a clear win in that sense.

To me, the answer is Teicher. He writes pap for a living. And defines the professional term, "cushy gig".

He offers no insight. No creativity. No curiosity. No linguistic skills. None of that. Frankly, it's a bit confounding how he was able to land that job ... let alone keep it. I figure it has to be nepotism or a relationship sort of thing because there's really no other rational explanation.

Sam has let me down many times, but he's a far better writer. Teicher probably makes more money, so if that's the benchmark, he likely wins. But I wouldn't trade 3 Sams for one Adam.

But Teicher is a glorified cub reporter. He almost certainly doesn't have the latitude Mellinger has in crafting his stories.

I think you're right that Teicher has the easier gig. And maybe everyone's right that it's a better paying gig.

But I dunno - that job has to be boring as hell, doesn't it? And you'd think that ESPN clearly knows that Teicher's just kindof a trained monkey so if they were paying him any kind of exorbitant amount, they'd just find a cheaper trained monkey. Or if they wanted better content they'd go find a better writer.

Just seems that when you ask the question "how did teicher get/keep that job?" you also kinda answer it - maybe the job isn't as good as we think it is.

Excellent point.

Job-wise (whatever that means) Teicher has it easy, man. No thinking involved. Just pound out X words of drivel each day and start cocktail hour early.

Clearly, he could be replaced by just about anybody ... including any one of a million 1st year journalist majors. So how much is that worth to ESPN? I have no idea ... and there's no tenure in sports reporting (that I know of).

So why haven't they canned him? Because he's willing to work for peanuts? Because he has photos of Pitaro enjoying intimate congress with a yak? Who knows?

I know this, it makes no damn sense how he justifies his professional existence.

Its been a newsworthy day Brooke outta here Reek payed and Raiders imploding before game one. But Pryor was just local news and Stars useful idiot. There are still players in this con job thinking pressures off. KCStar editorial board, KCTV5 and many others. Brooke was hired by the Star and KC Chiefs beat writer with really no history of covering a professional sports team. Her claim to fame was dragging down Mixon. Everything Brooke wrote had to be approved by the board and editors at the star. They had the same info as she did. It was the reason she was hired to do exactly as her prior history told them. It was exactly what the star wanted. These pricks like Smellenger, Keyser and Taylor were on board until the end when they got shamed. Fuck them all I want heads and the first has rolled.

Every fanbase is gonna have a Keg in KC who's gonna stroke her pretty head and tell her what a fantastic job she's doing and how mean everyone else is.

Before Hill she had a nice line of people looking to kiss her ass on social media. This was the case even though she was god-awful before she engaged in petty libel.

Again - Pryor has ALWAYS been shit. People were just weirdly accepting of it before all this went down. This simply exposed her as the no-talent hack she's been since she got here from OU. And now that she's gone, she'll be a no-talent hack for ESPN.

But she'll have her white knights coming to her defense to tell her how great she is. Because people are weird.
