View Full Version : Chiefs Andy’s 11 personnel package

If you didn’t know, this was the package we used to score every TD last week. Andy used this package most of the game. For those unfamiliar, 11 personnel package is 3 receivers, 1 TE and 1 RB.

This is the best package for our offense IMO.

So I’m trying to figure out a good way to stop this from a defensive standpoint.

<a href="https://imgflip.com/gif/3b71f5"><img src="https://i.imgflip.com/3b71f5.gif" title="made at imgflip.com"/></a>

Andy dictates what the LB does by motioning the RB. Speaking of, this is the answer to why Andy brought DAT back and had Tremon on offense. This play is a basically a screen if Pat decides to use the RB. That’s why a return like those guys for that as depth. I would expect DAT and Darwin to get the nod tomorrow due to their speed.

How do you defend this? Goddamn

Only way to defend is to cheap shot Mahomes and break his leg. Then you win the game and the Chiefs get a top 10 pick.

All Pat has to do is watch the LB and S to dictate the play.

<a href="https://imgflip.com/gif/3b72tu"><img src="https://i.imgflip.com/3b72tu.gif" title="made at imgflip.com"/></a>

The RB motioning forced the defense to pull either that LB or S.

If the backer goes to the RB, the middle of the field is now open for Kelce. If the S pulls up then one of the receivers will be 1X1 deep (how Robinson scored). The lone receiver at the top (Sammy) is 1X1 if the other safety has to pull to cover the middle of the field vacated bc the LB is forced to go to the RB motion.

It’s a damn effective play and blitzing against this package isn’t exactly a good idea.

I'm surprised teams don't blitz Mahomes more often - as in bringing the house. Trying to out-physical our offense might work. You might get screened to death, but giving Mahomes 3 or more seconds in the pocket with the Chiefs' weapons is suicide.

Like choosing between dying by a thousand paper cuts or getting your head lopped off by a samurai sword.

Last year it took Pat until halftime to settle down and start shredding Bill’s defense. Most QBs if stumped by a defense don’t figure that shit out in-game.

That change is going to be quicker and quicker to happen when Pat gets a game like that.

I noticed all the “regression!” morons on tv and radio have gone silent. They realize what most of us see. You give defensive coaches an offseason to plan, then you’re also giving Pat an offseason to study and learn until you repeat the cycle enough times that Pat has literally seen everything. It’s Manning’s brain combined with Favre’s braun.

In other words, I’m not afraid of Bill. Pat isn’t either.

There’s ways to defend it and get bodies on bodies so to speak, but even still, you have to be able match up decently in terms of physical ability. Very few teams can come close.

A team could call the perfect Zone on any given play to pick up each receiver, or a match Zone, and still yet if Mahomes makes a great decision or extends the play, it could all be for not.

The only way to ensure that each man is somewhat accounted for is man to man, and with that you have to deal with pick routes, not having eyes on the QB, and again... very few defenses can hold up in man vs. KC. Probably none can if Hill comes back with the rest of the crew.

It’s looking like one of the greatest offenses ever for a reason.

If you believe the Chiefs will score on you anyway 80% of the time, maybe some coaches would prefer to take the chance of getting sacks, possibly getting some big hits on Mahomes to injure him, or possibly creating turnovers instead of just sitting back and letting him carve them up. The Steelers tried to sit back and he dropped 6 TD's on them without a breaking a sweat.

There is no concrete right answer when it comes to defending Kansas City. If there was, it would have been exposed by now.

Belichick had a different plan for each game last year, and it worked only temporarily before the doors got blown off for 30+ point halves.

The talent and coaching combination is far too superior to be mitigated.

11 personnel is our base package, and makes sense since it preachy puts the best at each position on the field...but I'd LOVE to see Jody Fortson on the field in 12 personnel at some point, and of course 21 personnel to get Sausage on the field more...

I'm sure that one guy will get here and fuck it up....

To the point... I'm glad we aren't running the 3 TE package anymore...

I love listening to Romo call games. He and Gruden are awesome breaking plays down and calling them. Romo needs to be a coach.
He was talking about this RB motion being the only formation that was breaking up the Raiders scheme....explaining the LB moving, etc. Very informative.
Thanks for posting it.

Here it was again today on the Hardman TD. Sammy pulled Earl Thomas to the middle of the field and left it open for Hardman deep.

It’s incredibly difficult to stop this against us

The only reason this team got stopped today...was stopping themselves.

Drive 1: Intentional grounding

Drive later in the game: Watkins drop

4th down play: dropped snap

I think that was it.

Teams don't stop us. We stop ourselves.

We are going to have a game where we score a TD every possession this year.
