Just seems like a totally needless risk to run the sneak in that scenario. Bad things can happen anytime the QB takes a hit. You can just go down the list of QBs who have lost seasons due to injuries. With an al- world QB, I would just never even run the play unless there was something extremely important on the line.

Just wipe your vaginas and accept that shit happens.

How often do teams with colanders for an offensive line run their franchise QB up the middle? A dude that had already been dealing with a high ankle sprain no less (yes, other leg... we know)?

It seems massively counter intuitive to have Mahomes run up the middle in this situation and it put him in a spot to get fucked up. Just another misstep in Andy's play calling history.

/edit - think of a kid that had a toy that has a broken left leg and it I'd being mended and the glue is setting. Before the glue sets the kid grabs the toy and starts playing with it and breaks the arm.

You still get annoyed at the kid for playing with a broken toy too roughly.

That is what you have here.

The guy playing behind an average run line vs the guy playing behind the 30th in the nfl?

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol/2019

---

Mind you... I simply disagree with the play call there. I told the wife after 3rd that were better go for it but no QB sneak. Why? Because we have a dog shit line and Mahomes was already injured.

I didn't want the play call before Mahomes was even injured... because I value protecting Mahomes above all else. If it were up to me, I would never call a QB sneak in a situation where everyone Iis gunning for the middle.

All of these people bitching about doing it with Mahomes ankle being banged up apparently would have no issue doing it without the ankle injury, even though there is nothing to suggest the ankle had anything to do with the knee injury on the other leg.

Does the ankle provide stability to the knee? Yes it does. Its why there is now tons of data to suggest other injuries increase in probably a great deal when another area of the body isn't fully healed

You know what we should have done? Benched him after week 1. Can't do anything that might get him hurt.

I would have actually sat him this week, short week and all, after 3 consecutive weeks hurting his ankle and let his ankle heal. Prepare Matt with the first team and give ourselves the best shot to win while protecting Mahomes. It's a simple risk analysis.

I may sound like your father here but... I don't care what anyone else is doing. Other teams are welcome to place their franchise in whatever danger they like. I wish Andy was a little more gentle with his toys.

But hey... we are now going to be led by a guy that was out of football last year for an indefinite amount of time for so we have that going for us now.

/I hope 10 days is enough for Patrick but I also wouldn't mind seeing him sit a game to heal.

Hot take here, but play for the wildcard at this point.

Next 2 games will be tough. If Matt Moore steals 1 of those 2, then see if he can steal Tennessee too. This is a good excuse for Mahomes' ankle to heal 100%. I'd rather the Chiefs play the wildcard with 100% Mahomes than have a great seeding with Mahomes at 75%.

Trying to be an optimist. But Mahomes is too tough to sit out. This is a really good excuse to give him the time to get right. Gives guys like Fisher a few extra weeks too.

He’s gonna miss some time. Likely 3-5 weeks. Sucks.

It sucks. But keep in mind how many times Reid carried the Eagles behind the Detmers and Jeff Garcia and Vick to the playoffs. Maybe it's a good reminder of how damn good a coach Reid is. Not that Matt Moore can carry us to the playoffs. But if he can steal a few games until Mahomes is healthy that would be huge.

As long as he can come back by January, I’ll be OK. If he’s playing in the playoffs (even as a 9-7 team), this team still has a shot at it all.

If it's 2-3 weeks we can manage that. Raiders aren't going 10-6

Anything longer and we're in trouble.

I didn't say i was happy he was hurt. This league if full of bad QBs, he is a good one.

I was pointing out the similarity of the situation.

Where the previous year mvp / record setting QB had his knee injured while still having the previous potent offencive weapons around him. In effect wasting the opportunity of having that team together before any big salary issues hit. Just seems like a similar situation. And it seems improbable that the team that injured the first QB incurs the same type injury to their MVP QB.

iDeaL

Does the ankle provide stability to the knee? Yes it does. Its why there is now tons of data to suggest other injuries increase in probably a great deal when another area of the body isn't fully healed

But it was his opposite knee, no? I don't think a sprained left ankle would compromise the stability of the right knee, unless he was compensating for the left ankle by putting more strain on his right let. but then a again i'm no orthopedist.. either way, what happened was in the middle of a pile, not a non contact injury while he was running/cutting/planting.

Don't care if Q...

https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/knee-pain/qa/how-is-a-dislocated-kneecap-patella-described-and-treated

A dislocated kneecap is a common injury caused by direct trauma or forceful straightening of the leg. If you have this injury, you will notice the patella being out of place and may have difficulty flexing or extending your knee. The doctor will move the patella back into place (reduce the dislocation). Even if the patella goes back into place by itself, it needs to be X-rayed for a fracture. After reducing the dislocation and ensuring the absence of a fracture, the doctors will treat these injuries by splinting the knee to allow the soft tissues around the patella to heal followed by strengthening exercises to keep the patella in line.
