American tragedy. I genuinely love cheap, terrible food like this.

Edited to add that my 1300th post was about White Castle.

They are still pretty big back East. Hell, they were a regular staple on Friday nights in Kentucky when I was playing HS football. Get drunk on PBR and hit the White Castle.

It was GREAT!!! Until Saturday morning.......... :(

If you saw the new White Castle here in Scottsdale you would guess White Castle. They sold 50,000 sliders on the first day, 6 hour wait and had to shut early. Only one in AZ

They haven't stopped in a month. My office is on the same street about 2.5 miles down. There were 70-80 cars in the parking lot at 11:45am on Saturday night and another 50-60 in the drive-in even though they are shutting at 12am.

Largest White Castle in the US.

Is White Castle making a resurgence to Chick-fil-A levels?

I should franchise Oklahoma's first White Castle.

I believe there are no White Castle franchises, just company owned stores.

You can set your watch to how soon the gas begins by the number of burgers you eat.

I would rather eat a dry white dusty dog turd off the sidewalk than a White Castle burger.

How did the dry white dusty dog turd taste? Did you wash it down with a chocolate shake?

I think a big reason why White Castle isn't a bigger deal is that their main product is a weird mix of small and cheap yet delicate.

It's almost like running an hors d'oeuvres restaurant.

You might love bacon-wrapped dates, or cucumber finger sandwiches, but you wouldn't drive through somewhere to get a sack full of them to take home and gorge on.

WC burgers aren't as 'fancy' as those things, but they are pretty damned tasty and addictive WHEN FRESH. But one or two of them isn't a meal, and 3 or 4 or 6 means that the last one you eat won't be fresh, especially when you take them home first.

They're great to make yourself at home, or to lay out with snacks at a get together alongside the chip and dip and the beanie weanies. It's just not an easy sell to market WC as a 'meal' as we define it nowadays. Not special enough or super-sized enough to qualify on one end, and not healthy enough on the other end.

Childhood memory: Go into the White Castle on Route 1 in Rahway NJ wasted at 2AM and ask the greasy lady at the counter for a six sack of rats with blood and guts and she places your order without flinching.

Y'all saved everyone 18 minutes.

It's like asking why Boone's Farm doesn't run the wine market. Something being acceptable when you're already hammered doesn't mean it's good. At all.

Just as Boone's Farm is a viable option for drunk 17 year olds trying see how long they can stretch the evening on their way to 2nd base, White Castle is only worthwhile when you're plowed. Oh sure - there are people who claim to actually enjoy Boone's Farm while sober...but they're philistines.

I'll defend McDonalds, man. I'd eat Sonic with a cloth napkin and Wendys spicy nuggets are gods gift to humanity.

It ain't food snobbery - white castle is just shite.

Serious, my old man would bring 3bags of White Castle Shiite home. This was back in the 60s when I guess it was right up there w mc ds or fuckin Howard Johnson’s. I’d hide in the other room hoping I’d get out of having to eat that shit. Just the smell makes me gag.

They’ve literally never been near anywhere I’ve lived, never had it

But if their frozen version is any example, they’re only worth the money when I’m feeling extremely lazy in the CVS frozen section

Because they don't franchise, and only open restaurants within a certain number of miles from the nearest distribution center. There is one in the city where my girlfriends mother lives, about 45min- 1hr drive from where we are. We like to grab some White Castle every time we visit. It is what it is, cheap, greasy fast food sliders that are fucking delicious when high on cannabis especially. White Castle has sort of a cult following that way bc of the Harold and Kumar movie.

In N Out is the same with with distribution. They will not go more than eight hours outside of a DC. I think that there may be one around that distance in OK. There's a chance that KC eventually gets one due to that. But I think that with Whataburger being purchased by a large firm that KC will have one sooner than they get an In N Out
