View Full Version : Football Are the Bills serious contenders?

I'll admit to knowing very little, to practically nothing about the Bills.

However, I can't help but notice they are now 8-3.

Is this team for real, or just a mirage in this wacky NFL season?

They are serious enough to surprise a team that is ill-prepared for their style of play.
They're not brimming with talent, but they're not a team you're going to beat on talent alone.

IOW, a snakebit , undisciplined and sloppy team can get caught out, and a well-coached and disciplined team can roll them.

Can't remember the exact year, but the Chiefs had an awful Strength of Victory despite an awesome record. Everybody wrote them off and in the end, they blew it in the playoffs (lol).

Same shit applies here to these turds.

They have to face the Cowboys, Ravens and Patriots. They have some losses coming. Even the Jets might defeat them to finish the year.

McDermott has done a good job there. Ascending team, but not quite ready for a run yet in my opinion. Stout defense, decent running game and downfield play ability. The back end of their schedule will reveal how good they are. Tough games coming up.

rabblerouser

I don't know...they run the ball and play defense.

They could waltz into Arrowhead and steal a win just like the Tits in 2017.

No. The only team they match up ok against is Houston.

They would get clubbed by KC, Baltimore, or NE in a playoff game.

They've beaten the Jets, Giants, Bengals, Titans, Dolphins, Redskins, Dolphins, and Broncos. And they barely scraped by in a good portion of those games. Their remaining schedule has at least 2 or 3 losses. @Cowboys, Ravens, @Steelers, @Patriots, Jets. They're an 11-5 or 10-6 wild card team that has feasted on an easy schedule. They have a good defense no doubt but their offense is shit.

They have a top 5 defense and a nice running attack with Singletary, Gore and Josh Allen running around at QB. I can't see them as an AFC champ but I can see them being competitive against a team that isn't explosive on offense or has a really bad run defense.

Feels like a team that goes on the road on Wild Card weekend and loses....

These weird teams have a tendency to jump up and bite teams in the WC round before getting rolled in the divisional round.

The Jags a couple years ago spring immediately to mind. That damn Tebow Broncos team is a good example as well.

Teams with unique styles and stiff defenses can go out there and beat a team that shows up thinking they'll have an easy go of it. By winning that game they get taken seriously by a far better opponent in the next round and get throttled.

So yeah, seems like a team that could take us out in the WC round and then get fisted by Baltimore.

Their schedule has also been pretty weak from what I see.

The Alex Smith Chiefs would've lost to them in the wildcard round 17-14.

The Patrick Mahomes Chiefs will beat them in the wildcard round 35-20.

I want to believe you...but we lost to the Titans a couple weeks ago. Led by Ryan Tannehill.

We got beat by the Jacoby Brisket-led Colts a few weeks ago. At Arrowhead.

We lost to the Texans at Arrowhead in a game where Reid got thoroughly outcoached by Bill ****ing O'Brien.

So...I'm beat down. My expectations are...tempered.

Buffalo's zone D scheme feasts on bad to mediocre QB's.

Mahomes destroys basic zone D. Buffalo doesn't have the personnel to match up against Kelce, Tyreek, Watkins, Mecole and pressure the QB.

Yeah, the Titans squad from a few years back also comes to mind.

There's always some team that you 'want' to face in the first round that got there off a relatively weak schedule, a strong D and a quirky offense that jumps up and beats a heavy favorite.

And it usually happens when said heavy favorite has an unspectacular QB that just can't overcome a weaker effort from his squad.

And that's what makes a true 'franchise quarterback' so important, especially if you don't have a bye. At some point over those 3 weeks your quarterback is going to have to pull his team from a fire. In a win or go home scenario against 3 quality squads, you're gonna have a rough game and it's gonna be your QBs job to win it for you.

That's why I damn sure won't be crowning the Patriots just yet. Now they do have the wizardry of Bill Belichick helping them out, but Brady isn't going to performing any miracles. They're fortunate that they'll have the bye (unless the Chiefs can beat them and then the Bills hilariously knock them off to somehow steal the East), but not having an elite QB anymore alters their ceiling.

If the Chiefs were ever destined to win the Super Bowl, don't you think this is exactly how it would go? Beat the life out of you as a fan just a little bit more, and then, when you least expect it...

They can beat anyone or be beaten by anyone. It looks like we have a good chance to have a quasi-bye against the Chargers in week 17 which would set us up awfully well for Buffalo or whatever team amongst the Colts/Steelers/Browns/Raiders makes it otherwise. Then we likely have to go to New England and Baltimore and that's when the real challenge begins.

Their schedule is a mirror of the Pats schedule. The first six weeks they played 5 teams with one win between them. And the Pats, who they lost to because of a punt block/scoop and score.

Since then they lost to both the Eagles (31-13) and the Browns.

On the Bills-Broncos game yesterday, they put up some stats about how weak the teams were that the Bills have played so far, and then noted that the next four opponents have a record of 28-12. So I guess we'll find out soon.

(I didn't notice the record of the previous teams since it was a Broncos game and I wasn't paying much attention. Sorry about that.)

I'm hoping that the Bills overtake the Patriots for the East. Just so that Brady and company would have an uphill battle to the Superbowl. I don't expect it to happen. But it could. I ran just those two getting to 13-3, and NE still is the #1. If NE, Baltimore, and Buffalo go 13-3, then the Ravens are 1, NE 2, and Buffalo 5.

Oh really, Mr. Wizard?

It's the NFL. Any team can beat another team on any given Sunday. JFC, this board is full of scared little pussies. The road to the SuperBowl isn't paved with victories over the Bengals, Dolphins, and Broncos. If you want to win a SuperBowl, you are going to have to beat the best teams in the league and quite frankly you should want to. Winners want to prove their the best vs. the best competition. Losers want the reward without the work.

If our offense can get on track, you beat Josh allen the same way you beat lamar. Score points and force him to pass the ball. Josh allen is a hard throwing game manager. The only time Allen's been asked to do that this season is twice vs the Dolphins.

It’s nice to see the Bills finally have success. But they’re still mid level, that annoying little brother who wants to hang with the big kids.
