AFC Playoff teams stats, courtesy of footballoutsiders.com

I thought it was interesting looking at the offensive stats for the AFC possible playoff teams.

Comparing Quarterbacks –

Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes, 76.7 QBR, 442 pass, 3483 yard, 23 TD, 4 INT, 7/98 DPI, 24 run, 193 yard, 1 TD, 1 fum

Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson 81.3 QBR, 391 pass, 2783 yard, 33 TD, 6 INT, 2/73 DPI, 141 run, 1118 yard, 7 TD, 5 fum

Houston Texans
Deshaun Watson 68.9 QBR, 501 pass, 3419 yard, 26 TD, 11 INT, 2/10 DPI, 63 run, 397 yard, 7 TD, 4 fum

New England Patriots
Tom Brady 50.7 QBR, 576 pass, 3342 yard, 21 TD, 7 INT, 12/214 DPI, 9 run, 40 yard, 0 fum

Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen 45.5 QBR, 462 pass, 2646 yard, 18 TD, 9 INT, 5/111 DPI, 88 run, 480 yard, 9 TD, 6 fum

Pittsburgh Steelers
Mason Rudolph 32.1 QBR, 277 pass, 1513 yard, 12 TD, 9 INT, 7/182 DPI, 11 run, 50 yard, 0 fum
Devlin Hodges 39.9 QBR, 128 pass, 819 yard, 5 TD, 6 INT, 6/91 DPI, 12 run, 79 yard, 1 fum

Tennessee Titans - Still in the hunt
Ryan Tannehill 57.6 QBR, 263 pass, 2083 yard, 17 TD, 6 INT, 3/79 DPI, 22 run, 171 yard, 4 TD

QBR = Quarterback Rating, - www.nfl.com/help/quarterbackratingformula DPI = Defensive Pass Interference # and yards, fum = fumble

I think it is interesting how New England and Tom Brady really take advantage of Defensive Pass Interference while a team like Baltimore rarely does.

Let's be honest, he was good the last two weeks. Getting 4/50 when Gilmore is on him the whole game is a valuable contribution, and last week he got some big plays early and helped us build a huge lead.

The last two weeks is exactly what we want from YAC Machine.

Not to go too far into the BlackOps territory........but when you layout the DPI stats, from lowest to highest.........one might point to certain teams the NFL needs to give a "leg up", to ensure their markets/fanbase are included in the playoffs?

You would think, whichever teams have the best receiving corp, coupled with high volume of passes, would draw the highest DPIs, no?

Hell, I bet Deandre Hopkins has DPI against him ten times each game!

Things that make you go hmmmmm

Texans: 10
Ravens: 73
Titans: 79
Chiefs: 98
Bills: 111
Pats: 214
Pitt: 273

I don't understand the DPI stats...is it Number of flags\number of attempts? That can't be right...

what does it mean. Please explain it to my dumb ass...

EDIT
Oh, I get it. Number of flags\number of yards for the penalty. Got it.

Aside from a likely agenda to carry the Steelers and Patriots is the fact that Patriots receivers are clearly coached to flop. At least three times in the last game, there was minimal if any contact and the receiver crumpled to the ground. If you watch closely, you can tell the falls were completely fake.

James Holzhauer gambling advice:

“If you dig deep into the numbers,” he said, “you can get an idea of which teams have the inside track at the bye weeks and the tiebreakers come into play. There are times where there’s a decent chance that two teams will end up tied for the second and third spot, but one team has the tiebreaker locked up and you don’t always see that reflected in the odds...

The one seed, just by virtue of having to play only two home games, would win the conference about 35% of the time and make it to the Super Bowl. The two team makes it about 29% and the three seed makes it like 11%.

That’s just an enormous gap between the two and the three. At least the past five or six years, something like that, you keep seeing the one and two seeds advancing to the Super Bowl.”

One other thing: Bet on Sunday nights for the week ahead. “If they put the odds up for next week’s football games on a Sunday night, there’s not a lot of thought that goes into that,” he said. “But you give people a week to bet on this, the odds are going to be a lot more efficient.”

Oh, and one other thing after that: Bet on college football. There’s not as much attention paid to those games.
