Before the 2015 World Series, I remember watching him vigorously raking the infield dirt with the rest of the grounds crew and dragging around one of those big hoses to water it down. He was 85 years old.

He eventually came over near where I was and I said, "Hello Mr. Toma, they have you raking the infield?" He said, "Well, if you want it done right..." and gave a wink. Then he handed me his business card...cool little souvenir.

He's 90 & drives an older Nissan truck..with a tailgate worth a fortune.

Thanks for sharing.

That guy is still around? Wow, I remember when they used to always talk about him back in the early 90s. I hadn't heard his name in years. What an amazing guy.

One of my favorite people that worked for hunt enterprises. He would show up at the maintenance building and visit Worlds of funs head groundskeeper. I worked after high school doing odd jobs after park closed for season. Mr Toma was a genuine great person who treated all with with respect and always had a new joke for us. He even grabbed a dust broom and helped me sweep the carpentry floor of sawdust. He said he needed the practice. He and Bobby Yarborough the old Chiefs equiptment manager were the best. Keep getting with it George its keeping you young.

Yeah as when and if he retires but seems to be doing what he loves to do. He will be very missed!

That is a great story. George is an amazing talent. Doing it right and keeping it real seems to be the story of his life. Any of you who have been blessed with interacting directly with are some lucky SOB's.
One other thing.....
I live a bit west of Denver. Keeping the lawn green and not spending my beer money on the water bill is a challenge. A couple of years ago I was out on the grass looking at some brown spots and my youngest son hears me say (this is not bs).......
"What Would George Do"
To this day we joke WWGD when it is July and the lawn is giving me heart burn.
