I've been several times, it's pretty laid back. A lot of people dress up, but it is not required. There is an upstairs and a downstairs to the bar, with bands usually playing on each level. The upstairs has a very nice bar.

Next door is the Black Dolphin, which usually has a more up-tempo band. They are owned by the same company, and in fact, you may open a tab at one bar, and go between the two.

I agree with the posters above. You won't stick out if you dress nicely, but don't fret if you want to wear something a little more casual. I would err on the side of nicer, though. It can get a bit overwhelming there, especially on weekends. The Black Dolphin is right next door and will feature great music in a less hectic environment.
