Injury. That’s about it. I guess maybe cheating worked for a half.

Why Not?

Have to shoot him. There’s no stopping him. It’s like Ray Romano’s standup bit on Italian mothers offering you seconds.

The only thing that has stopped Mahomes is the Chiefs offense.... dropped passes, poor offensive line play at times, fumbles/penalties, etc.

When the Chiefs clean that shit up around Mahomes he is not stopped.

You don't.

Two world class defensive minds (BB and Vrabel) couldn't stop him this year.

The only thing that stops Mahomes is injury and drops.

These. It's really that simple.

Take away his mobility. And take away Hill, Watkins, and the running game. We saw early in the year how not having Hill, Watkins, and Damien running for less than 2 yards/carry could slow the offense to a crawl. have any of the three on the field and productive changes things. Having two of them and the offense is nearly as good as any time last year.

Injure him. That is how the Colts and Texans won.

You hope to contain via ball control and offensive efficiency (keep him on the bench).

From there, you need to crowd the middle of the field, forcing him to throw longer passes to the sideline and ensure you have a very strong pass rush and ballhawk corners.

So, you need to be a super bowl quality team to have a chance.

As Mahomes saunters into their hooch... “winning? what do ya’ll know about winning, potheads? I’d like to hear about it. Ya’ll smoke that shit to escape reality? Me, I AM REALITY”

There was a point when you could push the pocket back into him very quickly. But the OL protection has cleaned up, as has his mobility.

You just let him run free like the wild thang that he is.

Answer 1. Ideally you wanna score fast and give him the ball a lot. The more opportunities you give him to get hit or throw a pick the better. Hes a wild gunslinger who makes poor decisions just let him self destruct.
Answer 2. The rams gave the blue print in mexico city make him throw 80 times a game and wear his arm out.

Well it is a Shanahan, it seems his Dad wasn't opposed to having lip readers in the stands, spraying jerseys, etc, etc. So we know that as a family they are not above cheating.

The flaw with this is that our defense is pretty pretty pretty good now. Much better than what we had last year that Rams team would not have put up so many points.

There isn't a scheme alive that a secondary can employ to stop Mahomes. The only realistic way to stop him is pressure, and disciplined pressure, so that he can't escape the pocket.

If you can't do that on defense, other than fooling him once in awhile, it's basically over.

Honestly, unless Pat gets injured, or his receivers continually drop balls, you aren’t stopping him. I’m not puffing out my chest. He’s just that good and in the fucking zone right now, and I don’t see anything other than the above changing that.

Cover the medium and short, hope he's off on the deep balls.

That's what NE did, and they are the only team to slow him for a half.

Bob Sutton seemed to work.

TomBarndtsTwin
01-28-2020, 09:41 AM
Only 2 ways:

1. Ball control. Keep him on the sidelines and limit his opportunities and hope when he does get them, the offense is out of sync (O-Line, dropped passes, etc.).

2. Massive amount of injuries to offensive personnel.

So, basically, you CAN'T stop Mahomes, you just hope he isn't playing with a full deck or his team shoots itself in the foot with mistakes . . . . .

Colts played primarily man. That's how they did it buuuuut we didn't have Watkins or Hill and Mahomes played hurt.

To stop Mahomes?

Patriots' secondary.

49ers DL, but swap Dee Ford for Aaron Donald.

49ers LB.

That would probably do it.

1. You have disrupt the timing of our routes. You cannot let our speedy receivers have a free release at the line of scrimmage. The problem with this strategy is that it is very high risk (see Sammy Watkins steamrolling the Titans CB for the game-clinching TD bomb). It requires super athletic corners and safeties.

2. Pressure up the middle. You have to generate pressure with 4. Use stunts, twists, fake pressure and drop outs to bring pressure up the middle of the Oline. Pressure from edges will cause Mahomes to leave the pocket, which can be problematic in and of itself. Pressure up the gut is more difficult to escape. Additionally, the Chiefs Oline is weakest in the middle, so this strategy makes sense in a couple ways.

Easy.

Hope the Chiefs re-hire Bob Sutton as defensive coordinator.

Hope the Chiefs re-hire Alex Smiff and for some reason start him.

Those are the only two things that can stop Patrick Motherf****** Mahomes.

Thug it up and try to hurt him.

It's literally the only way.

The refs need to be watching carefully from here on out as I suspect teams will be taking cheap shots at Pat any chance they get.

Put 24 defensive players on the field but that's usually a penalty.

Also need to either have a lot of DL depth or keep him off the field with a solid offense. DL's run a lot v the chiefs.

I like that everything mentioned here has been tried already.

Mahomes has lost twice when the defense didn't give up 30 points.

One time was when the Chargers beat our terrible 2018 defense with a two-point play.

The other was when he was limping around the field against the Colts with a bum ankle.

He's currently 9-5 against teams scoring 24 points or more.

You rush 5 whilst grabbing and holding (or tripping and groin-kicking) the receivers at the snap.

That's about the only way you can do it for 4 quarters.
