Chieftain

The Kansas City Chiefs franchise founded what is today known as the AFC. Its owner, Lamar Hunt, practically created the league/conference whose trophy bares his name.
The Chiefs were the first AFC team to play in the Super Bowl. The words Super Bowl were also coined by Lamar Hunt. This will be the Chiefs 3rd Super Bowl appearance.
The decades of the 1970s - 1980s were a dark period for our franchise and it mostly had to do with poor drafting and lack of a QB.
During the decade of the 1990s, the Chiefs had a wins/losses record of 102-58. Only the Buffalo Bills had a better record in the entire NFL by winning 1 single more game than the Chiefs. Think about that for a second.
In that decade, the Chiefs led by future hall of fame coach Marty Schottenheimer, had several Super Bowl contending teams but came up short to teams that had the elite QBs of that time.
The Chiefs would be a contender again the following decade when Dick Vermeil coached the team. They were one of the favorites to win it all in 2003 (13-3), only to lose to Manning and the Colts in the playoffs.
This franchise had been so accustomed to winning during the regular season, that even capturing the AFC West in 2010 (10-6) with Matt Cassel at QB and freaking Todd Haley as coach did not really shock anybody. We did have Jamal Charles and a solid defensive core of players we had developed through the draft.
Then a couple of years later Andy Reid was hired as coach and he built a contender with Alex Smith as his QB.
The Chiefs had built Super Bowl contending teams each of the past three decades with different cycle of coaches and players. This all happened prior to Mahomes being drafted.
Now we are entering the new decade and a new contender is on the rise, only this time, we are here to stay.
So all you 49er ****s that come here with all this arrogance and stupidity, you should show some respect and appreciation of the historic winning franchise that is the Kansas City Chiefs.
