When I get old, I will. If I ever have a kid, I will. But for now I am a healthy adult so even if by some small chance I get the flu ill just be out of it for a few days. It'll actually be a welcome break from work. :)

Hmmmm.! Looking at your username..... I am surprised. Actually I don't get the flu either. I haven't even had a cold in over 10 years.

My wife works in the medical field so she’s required.
There for a while she’d come down with never ending bronchitis every year for 3-4 years. One year she missed like 2+ weeks of work.

Yup, first time in a decade because my wife is pregnant.

And got my second flu in a decade afterward.

I've only had the real flu once that I know of. I skipped getting a shot that year and said never again if I can help it. Plus the shots are free now through my insurance.

I never get the flu except the one year I got the vaccine I got Swine Flu, which apparently wasn’t covered. So if the pattern follows that’d mean this year I’d get Coronavirus. No thanks.

Nope.

When I was in the Army, we had a PA who was an old SF 18D and he advised me never to do it. Haven’t had a shot since 1993, and only had the flu once in the past 27 years. I’ll take those odds.

Lot of viruses out there that aren't influenza than people assume is the flu. I have been down with strep throat that I finally got in got a culture and antibiotics. Today is the first day that have began feeling better might even get back to work tomorrow.

Haven’t heard of anybody diying from the flu shot , people die from influenza every year (80k in us last year i think), seems like an easy choice to me , if you have young or old family members you are putting them at risk by not getting it, yes I know you can still get the flu even if you get the shot but will lessen its severity.
I am not a doctor but my wife is , shit I think I may have been brainwashed.

A lot of people seem to think that a case of the pukes and shits is the flu but it's not. It's probably the norovirus (or food poisoning), which the flu shot does nothing for. Actual influenza is a respiratory infection and feels like a cold on steroids.

I wanted to get one this year, but I didn't make it a priority. This will likely be the last year that I skip it. A colleague of mine passed away last Friday. He was at work the week before trying to struggle through to the end of the day with some kind of crud (not positive it was the flu). He had other health issues, but was only 9 years older than me. The flu is nothing to mess around with.

Sorry for your loss.

People don’t realize how serious the flu really is, as many stomach bugs are self diagnosed as the flu. Thousands of people die each year from this.

People don't actually have a good idea of what the flu is without a doctor's diagnosis.

I don't get the shot religiously every year, but I really should. Even people who aren't worried about dealing with it should consider other people you might infect with it and might have a tougher time.

I went for years not getting the flu and even rarely getting colds. But when I hit my late 40s, that changed. I was resistant to getting the shot for some reason but after last year, f that. Enough was enough. I know it isn't 100% but any protection is worth it to me now. It takes like 5 minutes at the pharmacy and didn't cost me anything so it seems like a no brainer to me.

Not since I left the Air Force in 92. I haven't had anything worse than a cold in over 10 years, even when some really nasty bugs were going around.

I wash my hands as often as I can and keep hand sanitizer with me for when I can't wash. I also try to avoid touching things that a lot of people touch. Seems to work well for me.

What's the downside of getting the vaccine? It's free for many and cheap for everyone else. Is it just the inconvenience?

When I had to get it, it never failed that I would get sick within a week of getting the shot. In the nearly 30 years since my last shot, I've gotten the flu maybe 3 times and a cold on average every other year. My immune system is strong and I trust it more than a shot that I have no idea what's in it

I don't want to weaken my immune system. I know they say it won't but the medical and scientific community have said lots of things that are not true.
Pneumonia is what kills 99% of the people that get the Flu virus, it is not the Flu virus itself.

Don't be dumb by ignoring experts. The best way to prevent pneumonia is to prevent the flu. Read up on the connection between the two and why the flu is most often a precursor to pneumonia.

true but you do realize antibiotics do not work against viral pneumonia which is why it is dangerous.

Most people have never gotten influenza most get some other viral illness (cold, RSV)etc.. but people who do get it get knocked onto their ass for about 2 -3 weeks and never miss a flu shot there after.

just because you never got an STD doesn't mean you shoudn't wear a rubber

I'm typically a no, but this year they were pretty confident on it being effective and a couple of my coworkers have babies so I thought I'd be responsible.

Having suffered through throat cancer this last year, my Oncologist (for the most part) said it was imperative that I get a flu shot. OK.

My Wife was a Nurse in hospitals all over and she was required to get one most every year. I have always balked at the idea, but I followed Doctor's orders and got one this year.

So far, so good. I had a slight cold earlier this year - but it went away quickly.
