Dane should be happy.

With the lbs off the board and the cbs gone, I'm not upset about a rb. I dont know a whole lot about any of them but he would have been my pick over the others. Less mileage and less fumbles. More dynamic as a receiver from what I had seen. We have a crowded backfield now though.

From NFL.com (https://www.nfl.com/prospects/clyde-edwards-helaire?id=32194544-5781-5562-8963-df06e680f700):

Strengths

Ball security is outstanding
Runs low to the ground with superb bend and balance
36 percent of his carries were for first downs or touchdowns in 2019
Can cut-and-go without stopping anywhere on field
Quick gather and cut agility laterally or on downhill flow
Has spin move, elongated jump cut, and sudden double cut in his bag
Makes tacklers miss in a phone booth
Instinctive eyes and feet make him unpredictable
Alters run tempo at times to con flowing linebackers
Squares pads and falls forward to finish
Has instant access to burst and sharp one-cut angles
Runs crisp routes out of backfield
YAC are automatic
Kick returner for three years

Weaknesses

Quick but doesn't have speed to house longer runs
RPOs made linebackers more tentative early in run
Smaller back as interior runner
Average power near goal line or on short yardage
Pure speed to the corner is just average
Shorter arms with limited catch radius
Needs to crank up commitment level in pass sets

This pick screams Andy Reid trying to re-create Brian Westbrook.

I will admit I trashed Edwards-Hilaire in another thread earlier today, and swore that he would never be picked by the Chiefs because of his lacklustre pass protection. It comes almost as a given that Bieniemy demands this out of his backs, but there is no denying he will be a huge matchup problem in the passing game and although he doesn’t have the greatest breakaway speed, He runs tough as nails between the tackles and is very elusive at the point of attack. I am more than willing to give this guy a chance and hope he develops into a great weapon for the defending Super Bowl champions.

They're going to have to fight for jobs. Really though these are running backs... injuries happen. Look at last year when we couldn't keep anyone healthy.

And considering he's a rookie and might have pass protection issues, Helaire might not be on the field every single down to start with anyway. Plus if everyone's healthy you're not going to be able to put all the weapons on the field at the same time anyway. Reid's going to have a field day.

Great at doing what Andy will ask him to do even though taking a RB in the 1st round usually isn't a good idea. #32 is almost the 2nd round though. The main issue is teaching him how to pass block. He is short but very stout so he should be able to.

Not even close. CEH runs a lot like Barry Sanders IMHO. Priest didn't have the speed, quickness nor cutting ability this kid has. Priest had the ability to glide behind a HOF line and read the holes very well. This kid is a "muscled up" Tyreek Hill and that is a very good thing.:thumb:

Daniel Jerimiah on NFL Network said that he reminds him of Priest Holmes.

If this kid can be as good as Priest....fuck yeah.

They maybe could have traded back a little, but it does look like there will be a run on running backs in round two, so I am good with the selection.

I was thinking it was gonna be him or the Swift kid from Georgia. Seems like all of the defensive talent we were interested in was already gone.

Also, this is a good sign to me that they are confident they can resign Chris Jones. If they were not, surely they would have gone with a DT in this spot.

Also, I like the pick even more after seeing the rest of the AFC West picks in the first round....they are giving up on trying to defend us, they wanna try to outscore us, and I think that plays right into our hands.

I thought Thompson might struggle to make the roster anyway. He just wasn’t that impressive last year. Williams made some plays, but I don’t think any of us saw him as a guy pushing Damien for playing time. So we had Damien, Washington, Williams and Thompson? My guess is it goes Damien, Clyde, Washington, Williams and Thompson is gone.

Building for now and the future. After this next season, the only RB under contract is Darwin T., well, and Clyde.

Building?

They had dog shit at the position, so drafting a RB in the first was almost a given, which is what I’ve been saying for a month.

I’m sure they’re going sign more than one UDFA running back, too.

I didn't even know attempting to buy drugs was a crime.

I'm guessing you'll be shocked to hear that attempting to murder someone is also illegal.

He's patient like Priest, has soft hands like Priest. But Priest never had this kind of short area burst and agility. His feet don't move this fast. CEH's stop and go is elite.

Some good, some not so good

Good
Perfect fit for our offense and Andy Reid
Great hands ... Great
Very good route runner
Powerful legs
Think Darren Sproles

Not so good
Swift was still there
Defenders that fit needs were still there
A RB in the 1st round
Not a polished traditional runner
Not a polished blocker

overall
Great at doing what Andy will ask him to do even though taking a RB in the 1st round usually isn't a good idea. #32 is almost the 2nd round though. The main issue is teaching him how to pass block. He is short but very stout so he should be able to.

This isn't the luxury pick that the t.v. guys keep saying. We have legitimate needs on defense. Fills the main need we had on offense.

My head is still sort of reeling.

This is pretty much just a bad take.

LMAO at thinking Swift is a better RB. Have you watched Swift? I mean actually watched him, not just his highlights. I dont know how you can come away thinking he'll be a better pro.

I don't know where Jeremiah thinks he is like Priest Holmes:spock:

Not even close. CEH runs a lot like Barry Sanders IMHO. Priest didn't have the speed, quickness nor cutting ability this kid has. Priest had the ability to glide behind a HOF line and read the holes very well. This kid is a "muscled up" Tyreek Hill and that is a very good thing.:thumb:

Yeah...he looks nothing like Holmes. How can this guy be a scout?

I thought of Sanders when watching his highlights too ....seemed to have that 6th sense on where defenders inertia was carrying them. That cant be taught...

I think he's going to be a star...especially in this offense.

this is a fine pick after watching some videos (extensive research, I know).

RB was a concern during the regular season, not during the playoffs though as we all know Damien Williams stepped the fuck up in the playoffs and Superbowl. But the regular season it was kind of a dumpster fire for a lot of it.

There's nothing wrong with taking a RB with the last pick in the 1st round and he's going to make some plays for us.

Christ almighty this dude’s strengths fit Andy Reid about as well as any offensive player in this goddamn draft

Strengths
Ball security is outstanding
Runs low to the ground with superb bend and balance
36 percent of his carries were for first downs or touchdowns in 2019
Can cut-and-go without stopping anywhere on field
Quick gather and cut agility laterally or on downhill flow
Has spin move, elongated jump cut, and sudden double cut in his bag
Makes tacklers miss in a phone booth
Instinctive eyes and feet make him unpredictable
Alters run tempo at times to con flowing linebackers
Squares pads and falls forward to finish
Has instant access to burst and sharp one-cut angles
Runs crisp routes out of backfield
YAC are automatic
Kick returner for three years

32) Kansas City Chiefs: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU — The highest-drafted RB in Andy Reid's career goes from a the most explosive offense in college football to the most explosive offense in the NFL. Edwards-Helaire is a compactly built powder keg of a back, and an immediate contributor. This pick is a home run. Grade: A-.

I know some people are upset, and some people are happy.

But, to those who are upset, I have to ask, WTF? This isn't a franchise that just randomly picked some dude, or picked a default defensive lineman, like they have been in the past.

This is a franchise that just won the freaking Super Bowl with a QB they traded up to get, with a defensive lineman who they drafted, who is arguably the second best D-linemen in football, with a WR they drafted, all being huge contributors to the Super Bowl win.

If they think a RB from National Champion LSU is the pick to make, great. After the last 2 years why would we even question the pick?

If your team won the Super Bowl, and is returning 20 of 22 starters, and you have the best QB on the planet, why even worry about it?

Hell, look at this run @ 2:18 LMAO LMAO LMAO Look at the quickness. It's ridiculous. If you watch only one play, watch his feet on that fucking play. ELITE. Swift can't do that.

No joke I let out a “Hooo!” As in “hooo boy.” When I saw that. Checked the time code. Came here to give props.

Definitely didn’t expect this pick at 32, but I’m still pumped

I had Swift #1 but it’s easy to see why Veach/Reid went with Clyde the motherfucking Glide

I’m just glad I’m not crazy.

When I first brought up going RB in Round 1, many people thought I was nuts. I argued for weeks and saw several come around to the idea but there were a lot that did not.

In the end, the Chiefs drafted an immediate impact player that makes this team better immediately.

This offense is going to be insane.

I like this pick.

The reason: Drafting well is a balancing act between addressing your team's needs and taking the best guy available. Did we have several positions of need? Sure. We could have used an LB; 4 of those were gone by our pick. We could have used a CB; 6 of those were gone by our pick. I could go on.

RB was also a position of need. Was it as big a need as some of the others? Of course not. However, everyone in the draft at that position was still available to us. That's why the pick makes sense to me.

I like what I'm seeing of the tape I see of CEH. I also find it interesting that we went with him as opposed to guys that many of the draft gurus liked better like Taylor, Swift, or Dobbins. Makes me think that maybe Andy and Brett saw something there that others didn't. The result won't be anywhere near the level of the Mahomes pick, of course, but...

Looking forward to seeing him in action.

I didnt think you were crazy and still believe Ruiz was in the mix but Veach mentioned he had 6 guys in mind. Once Green Bay traded for Love trading back wasnt a possibility

His forty brothers me a bit. But Hunt also ran in the 4.6's so... we good.

He's a flat out dual threat weapon and he can learn from D Will. Our RB's were running mighty thin late last season. CEH will be a big time player for us.

Anybody that couldn’t see the logic behind RB at 32 is likely closed minded due to stupid rules that they’ve made up.

Reid and Belichick have both taken a RB late in the 1st recently.

It’s clearly not stupid...

Conventional theory is RB positional value sucks in the first, but I mean when you're picking 32nd who gives a fuck. Go wild.

So Andy Reid, Brett Veach, Eric Bieniemy, and Dave Toub all loved this kid and wanted him bad?

What the **** do they know about football?

Well sure - but a poster named frozenchief, who still hasn't figured out how to give himself an avatar, is pretty sure this is a bad pick.

So I don't know who to believe.

Exactly 32 is where you could still get sick value at RB, G, C, LB, S etc.
