View Full Version : Chiefs Will Clyde be number 1, or will we still go commitee style?

Hunt was clearly the man. Will Clyde do the same and get the lions share of snaps?

Except Clyde is known as a great pass catcher, so not sure that makes sense? Unless you mean his weakness in pass blocking?

Yeah, my thinking is that they'd initially trust Damien more in terms of pass blocking until Clyde shows that he can do it with the skill needed to protect The Franchise. You can still use Clyde in base sets as a pass catcher.

All depends on CEH's pass blocking and if Andy/Eric have training camp to get his blocking up to speed.

If training camp is cancelled, Damien is the starter to start the year - but I'm about 100% that CEH will be the guy by the end of the season.

This year will be different so not sure what pre-season and season looks like, but I could see the possibility of a trade of a RB, much like we did with Carlos Hyde last year. Damien Williams might get traded as-well-as Darrel Williams or Darwin Thompson.

It will be interesting to see what Mike Weber and Elijah McGuire can do (If we have a pre-season).

Maybe Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the main back and DeAndre Washington, Mike Weber, and someone else will be the Chiefs running backs.

Probably start the season with Damien as #1 but will share snaps/carries/passes. Then when one of them proves that they should be the guy we will see that guy a lot more than the other.

How do you figure? If Charles never gets hurt, it's likely that Hunt never sees the field. Maybe ever. At least not as a Chief.

The only reason Hunt got on the field was that Charles got hurt, and after th remainder of that one season it was obvious that neither Ware nor West were the answer.

Or did you think I forgot about Ware and West?

Charles and Hunt were never on the team at the same time. Ware was the beneficiary of Charles getting hurt that you're thinking of. Then Ware got hurt the following preseason and Hunt got his chance.

Nope.

Spencer Ware was the Chiefs #1 running back in 2016 until missing the last two games of the season. He was injured during TC 2017, making Hunt the starter.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. Hypothetically, IF Jamaal never gets hurt back in 2014, or after, based on his previous three years of production (three consecutive 1,000+ yd seasons), he probably would've been our starting RB in 2017, the year Hunt got drafted. And do we even draft Hunt if we have a healthy Charles?

And I'm overlooking Ware and West, because it was obvious from the start that neither was really a franchise back. A hybrid of them would've been . . . well, Kareem Hunt. But as individuals each lacked what the other had.

I'd just about put money on it that to begin with, we'll see see the Fresh Prince in some play packages. As he learns and digests more of the offense, we'll see more and more of him and less of Damien Williams.

It's a pretty complicated offense, and we don't dumb it down for anyone. It's not the usual plug and play for a running back.

What's so hard to understand? Jamaal Charles was an elite franchise back. If Charles doesn't get hurt in 2014-15, he's probably still the Chiefs primary back going into 2017. If that was the case, Hunt might not even have been drafted by the Chiefs. Ultimately, Hunt got his chance to be the Chiefs starting RB because Charles tore his ACL in some freaky accident on the field. Well, and Ware and West just weren't good enough to be franchise backs.

The direct reason Hunt got his first NFL start is because the current feature back at the time (not Charles) got hurt. Had Ware not got hurt in that preseason, Hunt would not have started that first game of the year and he likely would not have caught fire and become the rookie beast we remember.

gonefishin53
04-24-2020, 05:12 PM
The Chief's drafted CEH in the first round to be their feature back this season. His football smarts and success in an offense very much like AR's added to his value as the Chief's 1st round pick and makes him the most likely choice as Chief's starter at RB in 2020.

Clyde Frog will debut as the #2 rb on the depth chart, expect to see him earlier in games if we score early, unless d will really has taken control of the game. my guess is that makes his debut late in the third quarter of the first game, after Williams has scored three touchdowns.

After Williams goes out with flu like symptoms prior to the 5th game, Clyde Frog will start and be effective enough that he sees the second series and half the third down reps going forward until Williams is hurt and knocked out for the season, probably weeks 10-13. Clyde frog finishes with 1288 uds rushing on approximately 295 carries adds another 563 us receiving including the playoffs.

That's right, Joe Brady. He has a good quality coaching experience, with as a GA in Penn State (I think under James Franklin), Sean Payton and Drew Brees while in NO, then going to LSU with Ed O.

That's a pretty strong resume.
