Terro has always worked for me. It might take a couple of days, but they'll disappear.

Mix up boric acid with something sweet in a small dish and put it next to where they’re coming in

Termidor SC.
Made for termites but works for all ants.
Do it right once and you won’t have to do it again.

This stuff is great. First year at my house a major ant infestation started in my kitchen. Put out 6 of these traps and after about a week they were gone. I started putting four out at the beginning of every spring and haven't seen a single ant inside since that first year.

If they are outside, I can't recommend this enough. We had over a dozen ant piles in our backyard. Various ants including fire ants. My son and I were getting bites when we were outside in our yard. I sprinkled this stuff that they take back to their mounds (watching them immediately grab it was crazy!). Within a week our entire backyard was ant free.

Haven't messed with this shit yet, but I've done the Othro Home Defense stuff and it's worked pretty good for us.

To the OP, you should also track down how they're getting into the house and seal up those spots.

Watching the ants as soon as this hit the ground was insane. I've never seen a feeding frenzy like it. Picking up these granules and right back into the mound. Almost all the ants were gone in 48 hours and we had a ton. I had tried almost everything outside before this product. I'll never use anything else again outside.

If you don't want to go the poison route, put out some peppermint where they are coming in. They will not go near the stuff. Really works.

The active ingredient in Terro (which I’ve used and loved) is boric acid.

I’m a bottom feeder cheapskate, so just use a spoonful of BORAX with a cup of water and 1/3 cup sugar.

Homemade terro

Talstar spray it around the foundation doorsills window sills. It can also be sprayed on ant mounds or inside behind counters etc. I use a yard tank pressure sprayer diluted with water per directions. Do it on a calm day use respirator if you want. leave animals and children away till dries. This works you won't have an ant for 6 months. Good stuff!

http://images.zarebasystems.com/is/image/woodstream/us-t100-1This AR our old house we put out the other baits and they killed the ants. Then these tiny ants started showing up and had no interest in the other traps. Some research showed they were raiding the other ants. Terror took them out.

Our new house had an infestation and terro took about a month to get rid of all of them.

Terro is good for sugar ants but that's about it. Army ants just look at it and move on by. Talstar will make short work of any ant including fire ants. Pesky bugs don't stand a chance and if god forbid you got roaches it will get them also. Termites if you can get it to them they are goners. Dont let the cost scare you its concentrated and goes a long way. This is what many pro's use.

Further context is they are an indoor issue. As for the "Type", best I can explain is small black ants.

I haven't tried that Terro yet. Going to check if it's in my area to buy. Good many ppl seem to recommend it.

Never had it bad until this year. I can't even lay down dry cat food in a dish for 20 minutes before it is discovered and swarmed.

Which leads to not being able to just throw poison around due to animals.
