View Full Version : Chiefs This is the closest we've ever been to a 16-0 team.

Once Mahomes returned in 2019:

Lost to Titans 35-32.
Beat the Chargers 24-14.
Beat the Raiders 40-9.
Beat the Patriots 23-16.
Beat the Broncos 23-3.
Beat the Bears 26-3.
Beat the Chargers 31-21.
Beat the Texans 51-31.
Beat the Titans 35-24.
Beat the 49ers 31-20.

The defense figured itself out. Mahomes was healthy. It took a silly, fluky game in Nashville for us to lose.

It's ridiculous.

We've brought back the entire run defense except for Reggie Ragland, so it's going to be hard to run on us. We brought back our entire passrush and secondary except for Kendrick Fuller, so it's going to be hard to pass on us.

We've brought back the entire offense, and beefed up the run game with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Good luck.

And we've brought back the entire coaching staff.

This team is ridiculously stacked, and despite four hard road games this year (Ravens, Bills, Bucs, Saints), I still think the Chiefs have like a 50% chance of going undefeated this upcoming season.

I think adding Willie Gay is more important than we’re getting credit for nationally. The 49ers had their most success running the ball to the perimeters, which exploited the fact that we didn’t have an elite level athlete at LB. Gay changes that. He fills a huge hole in our defense.

It probably shouldn't have taken hindsight to realize that predicting 16-0 for a team QB'd by Elvis Grbac was not a good idea.

Agreed. That was all Whitlock from what I remember. Aa for year going undefeated this year. I’ll say it’s possible, but unlikely.

That would have been the first 16-0 team to lose in the divisional.

It would take unreal amounts of luck with injuries and such. I just don't know that it'll happen, but if it were going to it might be in a covid season.

The Chiefs are gonna be at such an advantage with keeping everyone together, having the coaching staff they do and such.

I predicted 16-0 last year, and I still think it was a realistic possibility if not for the barrage of injuries to major players.

It's true, but I'm refusing to get my hopes up. Even the best teams in the world find it difficult to win back to back. The Patriots had to sacrifice their souls to the devil to have their level of success.

I'm glad our guys are optimistic, though.

No matter how good a team is, it isn’t realistic to expect 16-0 or 19-0. There is a reason that a perfect season has only happened once since 1932. Even if a team is 90% certain to win every game, their chances of going 19-0 are only 13%.

Now we have a running back.

One more year progression of already the best QB in the league.

A healthy Juan Thornhill, Alex Okafor.

A legit back up TE.

Entire season with Pennell stuffing the run.

And don't forget about my guy Breeland Speaks. He looks fit.

Players fully trusting and integrated into Spags defense.

A Potential coverage LB...finally.

Time to crush some mother****ers.

No argument there. One of the best play designs and calls of the game for Andy. Just such a brilliant use of Tyreek and Kelce on that play to give Williams the clearance he needed to score. Mahomes also did well to keep his cool and hit a jump pass over Dee - we’ve had too many QB’s who panic and overthink that moment and sail that ball 3 yards over Damien’s head.

Dee had no chance of stopping that play, but still - he was inches away from that football. That’s one of those moments that sticks with you.

Chiefs haven’t lost a game by more than one score in 3 years and never under Patrick Mahomes. I’m convinced that if Mahomes doesn’t injure his ankle/knee they go undefeated last season. He’s lost 8 games by 34 points.

The Chiefs sustained injuries to almost every major player on their team last season, were breaking in an all new defense, and actually played their worst football during parts of each of their postseason games... and still won the Super Bowl.

If you put aside the inherent challenges with repeating (complacency, getting every team’s best shot, etc.), the Chiefs on paper should be in a better position to win the Super Bowl this year than they were last year.

I think this is a tough year for undefeated. You have to figure key players on each team are going to be out for 2-3 weeks for covid at various points.

There’s more of a risk for it this year which is the variable that can’t be discounted. Teams account for injuries every year, but this year for everyone it’s injuries + Covid. Nobody knows if any of these guys will for sure get it, but the odds are some will and it could happen at any time causing them to be out for 3 weeks.

I hope that doesn’t happen but it’s an obvious risk.

That statistic astounds me as much as the 50 TD's and 5 thousand yards MVP year.
