Kimble Anders.. that brings back memories of my early years following the team. And we had that bum Bam Morris back then too. Tony Richardson was a decent fullback. Our glory days at drafting/developing elite backs really took off when Priest joined the team. Followed of course by drafting LJ, Charles, Kareem and now CEH. I can't think of any team in the NFL who has drafted/developed more quality backs in the past two decades.

I still laugh at what they did to make sure LJ didn't get those last few yards to pass Priest. LMAO

kind of would have thought that Tony Richardson would be on there, even if towards the bottom.

I guess he didn't get that many carries.

Wasn't there one season that he was going to be the featured back and one of the first games he had like 150 yards and then something happened and he didn't get finished with that.

Still one of the greatest blocking full backs of all time.

Was just watching priest highlights. Forgot how damn good he was. one of the most intelligent backs I've seen. A good OL helped but dude always picked the right spots and knew exactly how to hit it.

100% true. Not to diminish Priest's talents (and we'll try not to talk about his flaws), he really benefited from that line..

Yeah, fuck the player who had to be held back so he didn't surpass a walked-off (with pay) player's record.

That O Line were cavemen in pads. I think they secretly giggled when Vermeil called a sweep play-- they destroyed people. It was Billy Jack tactics; right foot / left cheek and not a damn thing you can do about it.

Agreed. I would have thought Holmes or Okoye would have had the most yards on the list but it's still Jamaal. Borderline HOF although he probably shouldn't quite make it.

It seems like it was always left. I'm sure there were right sweeps, but whenever I think of that offense I think of left sweeps. I wonder why. You had Roaf and Waters on the left who were amazing, but you had Shields on the right and Tait would have been very mobile. Maybe it was just because Gonzalez usually took a linebacker right to the strong side, which gave the left more room?

The thing is when they ran behind the same line, you could see that LJ was more naturally talented than Priest was in the size/speed department. That doesn't change that LJ was a dick then and now he's crazy.

Two words I haven't "heard" together in 20 years:

Herman Heard

Jesus Christ was that a horrible time in Chiefs Kingdom, the early to mid 80's. I call it the WASTELAND ERA.

No identity, very few if any superstars and just mediocre football year after year.

You weren't the only one. That list was long. We were always grasping at any player with just a remote bit of potential to elevate to superstar status as we had so many suck players that we were told were the next "__________" but in reality they were only the next Ryan Sims. :deevee:

They were a thing of beauty that’s for sure. Wasn’t Jason Dunn involved a few too?

Oh man leaking some screens out of the backfield with Charles in this offense would be devastating.

He had a unique style. He sort of just “glided” through holes.

Herman Heard, Bill Kenney, Stephone Paige, Carlos Carson, Dino Hackett, Deron Cherry, Albert Lewis, Kevin Ross, Art Still, Nick Lowery.

Those were the names when I "woke up" to sports as a 7 or 8 year old.

He only needed 40 more games to break 2000.

IMHO ...

Jamaal was the prettiest runner to ever play in the NFL.

No wasted motion.

Effortless grace.

Poetic physical efficiency.

I vaguely remember that he got one game to be the feature back and he destroyed worlds. Carl went over and talked to him toward the end of the game and there was some rumor or inkling that Carl told him that Tony would be the feature back. But then we signed Priest Holmes and he never got the chance.

These three guys were incredible. Wasn't there a 4th that played with them that was great also? :hmmm:

They blocked about 10 punts and FG's.
