View Full Version : Prayer Request What colors are in your bathroom?

...and I mean outside the toilet bowl.

Specifically, your flooring and the paint color.

Wife and I can't decide and need ideas. We're changing both flooring and wall color, but we don't know what to go with.

Don't ask questions. Don't ask any gay shit like, "Well, how much natural light is there?" or "Does it have to be paint only? What about a vanity backsplash?" Just give me ideas.

Thank you!

Good thread, I need help also as I'm doing a flip house remodel. My bathroom is down to the 2x4 walls so I'm ready for help!

Basically this tile color (this is not my bathroom):https://secure.img1-fg.wfcdn.com/im/40064499/resize-h800%5Ecompr-r85/7512/75126489/Meandros+16%2522+x+24%2522+Travertine+Tile.jpg

And a pale cream color wall paint which I'm told by my future ex-wife is eggshell. Essentially variations of light brown. Cabinets are fake mahogany. Dark brown.

usually light floors dark walls and vice versa.

then if you want to go super rich, dark floor and dark walls.

I did high end faux finishing for 10 years.

careful with greens and yellows in your bathroom, they will cast those tones on your skin.

don't want to look like you have jaundice. lol

dark browns and blues were popular awhile back.

lately everything is grey...ugh.

We had a yellow bathroom that we just painted white. Amazing how much better that bathroom feels and looks now. Added some floating shelves and plants and I just want to poop all day!

I've been married 40 years. I don't care what I look like anymore.

But I do think the lighter tones reflect light better when I'm getting up for work and shaving because I can't see shit anymore up close.

Two of our bathrooms are pretty basic and classic - mostly whites and beiges with silver fixtures.

The main bathroom is where we put our money, though it's not large. It's just kind of retro because we wanted it to match the age of the house. It's a palladian blue with white wainscoating. We've got a nice vessel sink that's the centerpiece, and it's kind of a chinese pattern of blue and white. The fixtures are all silver and the wood is cherry.

Overall, our house is old so the bathrooms are all pretty small. We don't have room for anything fancy, so the bathrooms are classy but they're not flashy or full of extras.

We have 3 bathrooms,
1) Grey/stone tile floor, pastel yellow walls
2.) Brown/earth tile floor, blue walls
3.) White hex tile floor, light green-grey walls.

Hmm. Is it weird that I really don't know what colors are in the other bathrooms in the house? Light colors I guess.

I'm putting tongue and groove pine through the main portion of the house with a deer antler chandelier in the dining room so I need the country look continuation in my bath.

Don't go with a deer antler bidet.

We just did our bathroom.

https://i.imgur.com/fxTjKGj.jpg

What we replaced was a 2 sink vanity, and a giant ass medicine cabinet with bypass doors. We needed to at least replace the bypass doors and shelving, but my GOD anything manufactured that big (I think it was 60x48) was worth more than our house. So we put the verticle cabinet in there for storage. and went with smaller medicine cabinets.

I also didn't put the second sink in and put a station for the wife to do her makeup. Its retarded to have a second sink just so she can stand above it to do her makeup. But virtually everybody we talked to said we were stupid. It's been good though and will get better as we get older. Although it would have been cheaper to buy a premanufactured 2 sink vanity but I think we're more efficient with the space and we have a place for the wife to sit down to get ready.

Wife thinks maybe we went a touch too light on the floor, it shows some stuff. At least more than she'd like. We also went a little light on the lighter blue. We really like the accent wall (Behind the mirror) and wish we would have painted the whole bathroom that.

The countertop is quartz. It's nice, laser measured, whatever. But water sits on it. So you wash your hands, get some soap and whatever drips off your hands stays on the countertop, It would be nice if it had a half a degree slope to the bowl. That's just me being picky.

I really like the gray cabinets. It was a small space so we tried to keep everything pretty light colored with a shitload of daylight (5000K) bulbs to keep it from being dark and dingy.

Shower is an offwhite onyx. If you have the colors, its snowswirl.

We recently put a new tub and surround in the kids bathroom. I think the colors work pretty well. Acrylic tub and onyx surround..

Whatever you do I’m a big fan of daylight bulbs. I think I’m the only one but yellow light just makes shit look dingy IMO. Plus when I turn on a light I by god want to see something.

The guest bath is small and kind of hard to take pics of, but the main color (that you can only see one strip of) is Walnut Wash, the accent wall is Wild Country. They're both Sherwin Williams colors. I have used those two colors quite a bit in my home. I also built the mirror frame out of reclaimed privacy fence pickets. The flooring sucks in there so I can't help you with that.

JFC you made that mirror out of that? Nice job! I have zero building skills.

Also, this house was previously owned by midgets or something. The toilets are low to the ground (we're replacing those) and the light fixtures above the mirrors aren't anything fancy, but they're super low as well! The ceilings are average room height, and there's about a good 2+ feet of clearance between the lights and the ceiling! Wasted space, which means the bathroom mirror is super low and placed RIGHT ABOVE the sink area. If you're even over 6' like I am, you have to bend over if you want to see your entire head.

Any way I can fix that problem easily? Basically, the vanity lights need to be higher up the wall. Am I going to have to tear shit up, call an electrician, replace sheet rock, and put in thousands of dollars and lots of pain in my ass?

You'll have to take it down first and see SNR. It might be a easy fix, or may have to skew it with some sort of application.

Either way, remodels are always a pain in your ass

True story: a friend of mine rented a house for many years that had midget light switches. The owner of the house had a son who was a small person and they had the house built custom, so they put all of the light switches where a dwarf child could reach them. Apparently once the kid moved out of the house they turned it into a rental and it wasn't worth the cost to change them to a standard height.

Yeah. It will cost a bit.

If you’re electrician enough you could do it yourself. I’m not. I understand conceptually what needs to happen but I hate wiring only slightly less than I hate plumbing so that’s not happening on my end.

While they’re in there if you want any more outlets do it then. Get yourself a good exhaust fan too.

I really recommend a light in the shower if you’re dropping Coin.

If the mirrors are recessed medicine cabinets you’ll have to frame in a new recess. If not it’s just a matter of moving it.

I had this painted around 2007 or 2008 (I certainly wouldn't do it now). At the time, there was a little crimson and blue - on the cartoon chicken inside the toilet bowl. :)

Feel white and grey gives a clean look that stays clean looking over time.

Also really dig the textured accent wall in one of ours that's a metallic grey with some rust accents to match the floor.

Ya the developer did an excellent job with matching the lighting fixtures throughout the house without duplicating any. Something my simple mind never would've thought of.
