He's .... out!

Lou Brock is kind of the first baseball player I ever remember. He was a big deal in St. Louis right about the time that I was learning about sports.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29826575/hall-famer-lou-brock-cardinals-base-stealing-icon-dies-81Him and Bob Gibson were my favorites growing up. He was fun to watch on the bases during a time when speed wasn't seen that much valued in the game.

His health has been deteriorating for a couple of years now. Sad to see him go, but I'm sure he was in a lot of pain. Having his leg amputated below the knee and being in a wheelchair for someone known for their speed must have been really tough. RIP Lou

Loved Lou, got to see his 3000th hit...an absolute rocket off the wrist of the Cub pitcher who knocked him down the previous pitch.

RIP Lou. A Cardinal great. I remember when I was a little kid my dad took me to a Cardinals game and the two drunk guys in front of us were calling every player on the field Lou Brock and cheering for them when they made a play.
To this day I remember laughing really hard at them.

The master of the pop-up slide. If that ball got away, he was up and gone and on third base before you knew it.

Also there are, like, three guys in history who have homered to CF at the Polo Grounds. Lou Brock is one of them. It's one of the most incongruous baseball facts I know.

RIP

Brock and Ricky Henderson’s stolen base records might never be broken. No active players are even close

I knew I had his card somewhere. I don't know why, but when I attach pics, they're always postage stamp size.

If interested-- old Lou's stats. I completely forgot he started with the Cubs. Not many ball players today are 5'11" and 170lbs, lol.

I used to pretend I was Lou Brock when I was the base runner in hotbox.
