MLB got it under control after the first breakout.

They were at least playing in the summer. The NFL's challenge is trying to do this while driving right into the middle of the flu and cold season. History says the odds are the virus will get worse as we head into winter with the shorter days and colder weather. Time will tell, but given the mess this week has been we're not off to a good start.

Sure, but they made it happen. Not to mention the “alternative training site” employees and players.

It can be done.

The teams need to be isolated starting on Thursday to make sure there’s no outside contact between then and game day.

Not really sure what the answer is. Gotta think it’s not feasible to bubble up a league with this many players and staff involved.

You could pause it but there is no guarantee when it gets to the point to go forward. Hell they could push it to the spring if need be, who knows.

If you just say fuck it and play do players like Mahomes with a kid on the way opt out?

It’s just such big pile of shit.

I was never in the cancel the season crowd, but I thought since they canceled preseason they should have started the season earlier since the virus didn't seem that bad late summer. They should have scheduled multiple bye weeks and made plans to delay the play offs and SB so they could have smoothly rescheduled games when players inevitably got sick.

Not sure what everyone expected.

1,600+ players not to mention coaches and other team staff. There are going to be cases.

Some weeks will be worse than others.

Maybe having the couple of scares like this is a good thing. We’d be naive to think that every player is being responsible off the field. The loss of revenue from a canceled season is a really big deal to the cap for future seasons.

Hopefully, this is a wake up call for any players who are being irresponsible.

I don’t see why they couldn’t adjust the schedule on the fly if needed. The Super Bowl and Playoffs can always push.

Maybe grant a couple additional bye weeks or something, so it’s fair across the board.

Yes they did, but I’m assuming that them leaving their controlled environments at camp to go to uncontrolled (as in not the teams full control) environments like airports and hotels at away games might be part of it.

Plus I bet a fuck ton of depth players, later or undrafted rookies and guys on low money deals were being careful as hell in August bc COVID would pretty much sideline them all camp giving the next man up and opportunity to take their job much like an injury could in any regular season.

They still can, its not like the stadiums are being used for anything else right now.

I heard the NFL has a scenario where they just have a universal bye week and move that week to the end of the season.

If they want to save the season, something will have to change. It’s only going to get worse if everyone does the same things they are doing now.

Frankly I’m surprised it start earlier. I thought there’d be social distancing but all the players mingle together at the end of each game with the same hugs and high fives as before.

I think people thought the tests would offer protection, but in reality there’s a window from testing to results and judging from the NFL and White House experiences it looks like you may be communicable after the test and before the first positive result.

They either have to get faster test results without losing the accuracy of positives or they’re going to have to lock down the players, staff, and everyone else who comes in contact with the players right down to the pilots of the planes.

For now they should push the playoffs back and add three weeks at the end of the season to have pick-up games. Once the playoffs start they need to all be in a bubble for that (up to a) month. Only way I can see this being salvaged.

Good luck getting that game in this week. The NFL better step it up and the players better start getting more disciplined in terms of where they are going and what they are doing as far as social distancing if this season is going to finish by February/March.

So reports are now suggesting the new test for this player in question has come back negative...it was a false alarm and the game will go ahead plus the player can play. So this is at least some good news today.

Not automatically, 100%. But based on evidence* it is quite obvious that a large percentage of individuals contracting COVID-19 are not complying with public health directives.

*Evidence:
1. Low rates of COVID-19 transmission in many countries that have high rates of compliance with public health directives.
2. The highest per capita transmission rates in the US are occurring in geographic locations where observable compliance is low and local health policies are lax.
3. Three population groups in the same geographic area, (faculty-staff, general population, and students) had relative infection rates of 1:4:25.
4. Contact tracing at my university is demonstrating that transmission is not occurring in classrooms (with 6 feet physical separation, frequent cleaning, and universal mask usage), but rather is occurring when individuals are ignoring public health advice.

First you said there was a “major likelihood” the Pats would have more positives.

Then you predicted this game wouldn’t happen this week, then it turns out to be a false positive.

Maybe stop being so negative?
