Andy don't have to do anything. It's spags that needs to make adjustments and they should be pretty easy. Now we're looking at an immoble QB. push up the midddle and crush and stop the run.

I have the same PTSD, but I'm curious - do we have any chronicled history of when was last time this happened? I don't count the Chargers first round pick as he was an upgrade talent-wise. In the Mahomes era closest I can think of is Jacoby Brissett beating us last year in a 19-13 stinker. He wasn't technically a backup but probably should count as one since Luck sprung a surprise retirement announcement on the eve of season kickoff.

Didn't we get the first taste of minshew?

That's sort of one. But we jumped out to a lead early and never trailed after that, and won by 14. And most of the game we didn't have Hill. And Minshew also turned out to be pretty good and is still the team's starter.

It's the perfect setup.

Both teams will play it vanilla due to the time change and the COVID swirl. A tight, relatively low-scoring game will lead to wailing by they talking heads and Patriots fans.

"You just wait until Cam comes back for they playoff matchup!"

And then they come to town for the playoffs, with Cam, and the Chiefs blow their doors off proper.

If you're starting a franchise you'd rather have Mahomes. But sitting here at week 4 and ranking this particular season, Wilson is playing out of his mind. Completing over 75% of his passes with 14 TD and 1 INT. Broke Mahomes record for TDs in the first 3 games.

He's literally on pace to throw for 5000 yards, 75 TD and 5 INT. Hard to argue with that.

Sorry....I realize and acknowledge that Wilson is playing well right now. But even using the "right now" argument no one is better than Mahomes who basically just ripped the consensus #1 defense a new one. And it didn't even look like he struggled in doing it.

Wilson is streaky. Every single year he has on average 2-3 stinkers. Guy is not always consistent. Pat has never had a bad game, nevermind back to back bad games. It is really annoying to have him mentioned in the same breath as Mahomes. He is a tier below.

Russ is playing incredibly well for sure. Patrick does have him beat in ESPN's QBR, PAA (Points Added Above Average QB), and EPA (Expected Points Added).

QBR - 91.8 for Mahomes, 86.1 for Russ
PAA - 25.7 for Mahomes, 20.8 for Russ
EPA - 35.5 for Mahomes, 31.3 for Russ

I think part of what ESPN is accounting for is that Russ has played against 2 of the worst defenses in the league so far.

I’d be shocked if this game actually happens. The NFL is putting their necks on the line for this. It can take as long as 5 days and sometimes longer to test positive but you are still contagious. That is from Mayo Clinic. Just look at titans players that are just now testing positive.

I was thinking about watching it on NFL.com from my office after my class, but NFL.com isn't streaming the game, probably to avoid conflict with MNF.

The funny thing is, I assigned myself the Monday evening teaching slot (normally 5:05 to 7:45) so I could finish teaching, then go home to relax to the game. It has worked well in the past and I usually can see the whole game. Well, with COVID, the university pushed the whole class schedule back one hour to allow more time between classes. Now I am teaching 6:00 to 8:40, which doesn't work well with a 7:05 kickoff.

I wouldn't be surprised if the patriots announced ten minutes before the game that Newton's test was a false positive and he's going to be playing. And then Belichick would shrug and say, "It's not technically against the rules."

But if Newton is really out, our key player for the game will be Mike Pennel. I was watching some replays of the Titans AFCCG last year, and Pennel was a wrecking machine in the middle. You know that the patriots are going to run the entire game.

I'm honestly surprised it's not just on in whichever markets it would have aired on yesterday. It's not regularly scheduled to be a nationally televised game. Figured ESPN would be a bit more resistant.

You guys are something else. Overlooked the Chargers and that was a close one with a rookie with 0 prep time.
We should and most likely will win this game but let's be real here Belicheat defense has always given Mahomes trouble. If they can run the ball and play some of that troubling D then it will be a decent game.

I think stopping their running game is the big question and will be the key to whether it's close or we blow them out. Belichick is going to try and take the air out of the ball (not the first time). Basically the equivalent of trying to stall and burn up the shot clock in basketball.

Reid always does pretty well against Belichick's defenses, even back when we had Alex. I think if this game is close it's because they were able to run the ball enough to limit possessions.

All the Chiefs need to do is play their game. If they do, the Patriots will have to throw, just like everybody else.

The Patriots defense isn't the Chargers defense. It isn't even the Ravens defense at this point.

Gives him trouble...for a half. In the other half, he torches Belichick's defense. Very much a two-way street. Not like Belichick has totally shut him down.

The Chargers played us as if it was their Super Bowl. Patriots could cause problems if they are all in too but now with Cam out I wonder if Belichick saves some stuff to use (for example, ways to expose our linebackers) for the playoffs.

I don't think there's any way he holds anything back. This is a direct head-to-head going into the #1 seed.

Besides just having Cam back for the playoffs is something "new" so there's no reason to sandbag here.

It's kind of a shame that the Pats are so decimated this season. And without Cam they're literally scraping the bottom of the barrel. Part of me thinks that Bill will show us some plays on both sides of the ball that we've never seen before; that he might just throw the kitchen sink at Andy. Kind of the football version of Gandalf vs. Saruman; two great wizards slinging mighty spells at each other . . .

But I don't think Belichick has the players to do it in 2020, even if he wanted to. It's too bad, because I think it would've been pretty great to watch.

Instead, we have to settle for Hoyer/Stidham struggling to move the ball, and a Patriots defense with no teeth.

Well, at least Andy will show us a few more new plays he's dreamed up.
