I recently watched all the Ali Vs. Frazier fights and the Hearns v Hagler ones on YouTube. Boxing was great back in the day.

Frazier was so good. Too bad he come along at the same era as Ali.

I have that fight recorded along with Ali Foreman 74 Jungle fight in Zaire.
Boxing back in those days was really something to behold.

"Man, Ali was so damned good."

He is still "The Greatest." No debate. Ali in his prime is better than any heavyweight ever in theirs.

The man could stand there and take all you could throw at him, hardly ever went down.

Heh, didn't recognize Burt Lancaster was doing commentary. Puts in perspective how long ago this was.

Crazy how much punishment he could take and then come back as hard as he did. Even now, when he's obviously nearly gassed, he still finds the energy to come with a couple really hard punches after that patty-cake stuff.

Ali obviously playing a little possum. And a little rope-a-dope in there as well.

Hate to be a nitpicker, but the "Down goes Frazier!" thing was from the Foreman fight.

Yeah, I know, but it's the most iconic call of any of Frazier's fights, and I knew everyone (fight fans) would recognize it.

Mano o mano sports are just the greatest. NFL tries to do it but it's stupid.

Hearns v Hagler ones on YouTube. Boxing was great back in the day. 1

I met Thomas "Hitman" Hearns in 2005 at The Contender finale at Caesar's in Vegas.

That dude's shoulders were so freaking broad that I'll never forget it. He was wearing a white suit and white hat and looked like the baddest motherfucker on the planet.

I also met almost all of the guys that participated in the program and spent some time with Sergio Mora and his mother. I told him that he would be a World Champion within three years.

Three years later, he was the WBC Light Middleweight Champion of the World.

I used to devour those old fights on ESPN Classic, boxing was so entertaining back then. I think Ali / Frazier III was my favorite one.

I have been a fan of some modern fighters although I don't watch anymore, but those were the glory days.

Damn me, Ali was just electric. And Frazier has to be the gamest fighter ever. Great fight.

God, I miss fights like these. These two would own boxing, scratch that, they'd own fight sports today. We were spoiled, just wonderfully spoiled, and we didn't even know it.

I do a good impression of Howard Cosell saying "Down goes Frazier". Met him once with my Dad when I was in my teens on a street corner in NY. He was really tall.

Been doing it for years when the shit hits the fan or someone gets in trouble. ROFL

I remember that so many people hated Cosell, but I always thought he was fantastic and the best and most entertaining broadcaster of that and maybe any time.

I think he should have retired two years before he did because he begun slipping mentally.

Thankfully, it didn’t tarnish his legacy.

Next game we all get together we'll have to hear that.

Funny enough, I wasn't a big Cosell fan when I was little. He was kind of an acquired taste, I guess. I thought he talked too slow most of the time and he sounded pretty monotone.

But I guess after years and years of MNF, I found myself looking forward to his off-beat style. He was like that funny uncle that you saw at the family reunion; kinda goofy but always entertaining/endearing.

I actually agree with both of you.

Cosell was quirky and funny but also took his craft seriously. He was always one of my favorites even though he was a little before my time.
