View Full Version : Chiefs NFL Awards Night Party

First, Kay Adams looks very nice. She's in a long black gown with sequined bodice and spaghetti straps.

The NFL Assistant coach of the year is the first award. It went to Brian Daboll, who lost to the Chiefs twice this year.

I doubt that I'll make it through the entire show, so feel free to offer up highlights as they occur.

Jaylon Smith predicts that the Chiefs will become the 7th non-cheating team in NFL history to win back to back Super Bowls. (I'm excluding the broncos and patriots from that figure for obvious reasons.) He's being interviewed in his car at a car wash because I'm guessing that he forgot about the interview.

I just saw TwistedChief's jacket.

Now they're talking about how many more MVPs and Super Bowl rings Mahomes will win in his career.

You watching some extended, better, version on NFL Network?

I'm on NFL Network. I have no idea what I'm watching, but Kay Adams in a low-cut evening gown is keeping me watching. I'm thinking it's some preview, but they seemed to officially announce Daboll. I'm confused, in part because Spagnuolo should be the assistant coach of the year.

Arik Armstead is picking the Chiefs to win tomorrow.

Rain Man
02-06-2021, 07:45 PM
Cam Jordan refuses to answer about who's winning tomorrow. He doesn't know it's the Chiefs.

Based on a Kay Adams statement that involved some nice inhaling in the evening gown, this is the "red carpet show". But there's no red carpet visible anywhere.

Matt Ryan was an MVP once?

No one remembers because that was the year they lost the Super Bowl in epic fashion, but he put up 70% completion, 5,000 yards, 38 TDs, 7 INTs and averaged over 9 YPA. He was really good that year, very efficient.

Frontrunning Rodgers padded his stats all season, throwing for touchdowns late in the fourth quarter of blowout wins.

And then every time the going got tough, he wilted under the pressure.

Mahomes could have easily matched his stats, but he and Andy determined it was best to shut down the playbook once games were in hand and focus on the playoffs. He left so many more stats on the field than Rodgers.

Patrick chose a championship over an individual award and that's why he has a great chance to become the GOAT one day.

Did just as much with far less, and doesn't blame his teammates when he struggles like Aaron does.

Neither of them were better than Mahomes this year though.

Mahomes only lost one game as a starter this year, set a record with every TD pass, led his team to Home Field advantage, played clutch all year including game-winning drives and game-ending drives- and is playing in the SB for the second year in a row.

Gets 2 MVP votes. Laughable.

What I don't understand is the voters went out of their way to give Peyton Manning a ton of MVP's, even when he probably didn't deserve it over others. Seems to be the opposite situation happening with Mahomes. They're looking for any excuse to not admit how good he is.

Whatever. If it fuels him to make all these people look like absolute morons, then they should keep it up.

Normalizing greatness.

Josh Allen also padded his stats late in blowout games as well. We saw how empty those stats were when he had to go against a much better opponent in Kansas City.

Yep. I hope he throws for like 9 TDs tomorrow. No reason to shut it down now.

Truth!

Rodgers chokes in the playoffs and then gets an award for all those 1-yard TD's he threw. :shake:

Use it as motivation tomorrow Travis!I think had he played wk 17 and ended up leading the NFL in rec yrds he would have won it. He would have done something no one else had ever done at TE.

I think all sports are like that really. Often times the best players don't win a ton of MVP awards because people just vote for other guys to mix it up, or guys who have dominant performances on lesser teams. Best example is Jordan only winning 5 MVPs. I think it's been like 7 or 8 years since LeBron won MVP.

Nobody besides Manning has won more than 3 MVPs in the NFL, so it's not much different.

I'm cool with Mahomes doing what Jordan did to the likes of Charles Barkley and Karl Malone in the playoffs. Or Hakeem Olajuwon in the playoffs against MVP David Robinson. That's basically what Patrick did to Josh Allen in the AFC title game.

It's obscene to think about how many yards mahomes gets without garbage time. The exact opposite. How many yards would he have had in 2018 if we weren't always pumping the brakes on big leads.

That's the perfect example. It could end up that way. Whether you want to look at regular stats, advanced stats, whatever... Jordan could have won 8 or 9 MVPs. Pretty much his entire last decade with the Bulls, although Karl Malone has a decent case those last couple years. Mahomes will be the best guy in the league some years and still not get it.

Rodgers had an awesome year, no problem with the voting on that front.

Major problem with the people voting Josh Allen above Mahomes. Patrick played one less game than Allen and still had better stats than the dude. And unlike Allen's coach, Andy Reid took his foot off the gas all the time instead of padding stats to run up the score on weak opponents.

Really don’t get what the voters saw in Allen over Mahomes. Allen was terrible against us in the regular season, which turned out to be their most important game of the year since it decided the 1 seed.

The AFC will belong to the Chiefs until Allen or Watson has a truly elite roster or until a QB closer to Mahomes comes along.

And yet Earl Campbell remains the franchise's best running back.

Let Rodgers stockpile MVP awards. He’s gonna retire with the same amount of titles as Trent Dilfer.

Hell, at this rate he may end up with as many SB appearances as Dilfer as well.

As far as the MVP voting goes, jealousy is an ugly emotion that causes even grown men to make bad decisions. All of the East Coast media still fawn over TB and talk up anything and everything East Coast. Green Bay gets a pass because of the history. The hate us because they ain't us. They can't stand that flyover country owns their butts.

They can have their Nor Easter. They deserve it. It's a participation trophy anyway.

If you run for 2k they're giving you an award.Normally, I would agree with this statement. But 7-8 other RBs have rushed for over 2,000 yards, but no TE has ever had more receiving yards in a season.

Not only did Kelce break the single season record for receiving yards at the TE position, and not only did Kelce just record his 5th consecutive year of having at least 1,000 yards receiving, which extended his own record for TEs, but he was also the number one receiver on a 14-2 team, that secured the 1 seed in the playoffs.

Those are all more impressive than Henry running for 2,000 yards.

This. Everyone knows that Mahomes and Kelce are the best at their positions, and will be probably for the forseeable future. These awards are for "the other guys".

At this point, I hope nobody ever wins any regular season honors for the Chiefs. Because they are the best, and everyone knows it. They might hate it, but they know it.

The Allen over Mahomes thing is just fucking hilarious though...

Yep, it is all about $$$ and the $$$ comes from the fans.

"Well at least our QB got MVP or at least our RB got best offensive player etc. etc."

It wasn't too long ago when us Chiefs fans were really excited when one of the Chiefs made the Pro Bowl, or went clear over the top and had 6 named to it!!!

Now we have to settle for the SB!!! It is so nice to have who we all know is the actual best player in the league on our team!

Mahomes is young and has already won an mvp. The NFL is going to make him work extra hard. Veterans like brees and Rodgers get way more leeway because lots of people want them to win one before they retire. So mahomes has to have ten times the season anyone else does.

Mahomes had a tremendous season. Of course he would have my vote. But it wasn't like 2018 where brees shouldn't have been in the same conversation. Rodgers had an mvp like season. Mahomes pulled away because brees struggled at the end. In fairness, mahomes was the mvp favorite but lost it because he did not close the season on a high note (3 out of 4 rough games by mahomes standards).

So... Megatron was pretty much a consensus mvp. Got me thinking about Jamaal Charles HOF prospects. Megatron had a great career but he was a first ballot HOF largely because he had a three year peak (so did Charles). Like Megatron, Charles gets an even bigger bump for having solid seasons otherwise despite a shitty team. Neither won any meaningful games. Arguably, Jamaal Charles career was every bit as long as Megatron considering the positions they played.

Not suggesting Megatron doesn't belong. Or that Jamaal does. But if Megatron gets in first ballot shouldn't Jamaal be in the HOF conversation?

He won't.

From his era, Adrian Peterson will get in first ballot. LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch will probably get in, but not first ballot. Charles, Forte, Arian Foster, etc will all just be remembered as great players for a handful of seasons.

Yeah, Arian foster is a decent comparison. But I'd say Charles is higher than that second tier. He had less great seasons but his peak was arguably as good as any of those guys except AP. Wasn't an every down back but his YPC was on historic levels. It really begs the question of how important the peak is vs longevity.

I agree. I think as far as talent and individual ability are concerned, Charles was a tier 1 back from 2009-2015 (up until shredding his knee), but I don’t think the average casual fan would agree.

I think he was 100% better than guys like McCoy and Marshawn Lynch, but McCoy’s got a better resume due to longevity and Lynch’s resume is also better since he’s got the postseason success and signature runs.

Patrick Mahomes might have a better vote total if he did not have 3 INTs against Dolphins and the INT against the Falcons.

Aaron Rodgers had better stats this year and Lamar Jackson had better stats last year.

I think it is true that, during the season, the NFL TV shows go out of their way to boost up players other than Mahomes as MVP candidates.

But as for the winner the last two seasons, Mahomes did not have the numbers compared to the winner.

Lamar Jackson was unanimous last year and Rodgers got 44 out of 50.

If Mahomes did not have the 3 INTs against the Dolphins and the INT against the Falcons in December games he would have received about 15-20 votes.
