Also probably not the best situation to be in for someone who is recovering from yet another recent back surgery.

My initial guess is that he was hauling ass and driving like a prick, probably clipped the curb and that's all she wrote.

I don't know about other states, but CA has a bunch of roads like pictured in the OP and i've seen a number of overturned cars over the years from assholes clipping the curb at 50-60 MPH.

TMZ is reporting he left a hotel where there was something being filmed, just about ran into the director on his way out of the parking lot and was driving fast and appeared pissed off.

Sounds like he also had a fasciotomy due to compartment syndrome. That means that he had so much swelling in the leg, that the swelling was cutting off circulation, so they have to cut open the thick tissue around the muscle to relieve the pressure. This is typically left open for a while so the swelling can go down before they suture it closed

Nasty injury. Comminuted (multiple pieces) open fractures to the tibia and fibula in two separate areas on the same leg

Surgical fixation of the ankle and foot as well.

That leg was mangled, he is lucky to keep it

Yeah, according to reports he was going to be about 30 minutes late getting to the training session and was just probably hauling ass & lost control

Given how bad the accident was, he's lucky to be alive. I would say that the Genesis passenger compartment passed the crash test.

Yeah depending how bad , artificial ankle or knee could be in his near future.Friend just blew up his knee hitting a rock with his snowmobile, he is 45 will probably see a replacement by the time he his 50.

Since they managed to put in a rod sounds like it wasn’t horrible , broken in 3-4 pieces is not as bad as 15-20 pieces , where they would have need a plate and eleventy billion screws

Probably texting....or trying to find that new Meg Thee Stallion track on spotify....

Seriously though, i feel like these medians and curbs on these CA hwys do more harm than good.

Those are generally 45-55mph lanes that people drive 65 on. They stop paying attention, clip a wheel on that curb and the car becomes an airplane.

While I used to be a much bigger fan, I still root for him and appreciate his amazing talent. This is just so sad. It's pretty appalling how people keep doing the blame game. Sure, nobody else caused the accident but this happens to many normal folk all the time and from the sound of it this is a precarious downhill winding road that residents in the area say can be dangerous.

There is no reason to suspect alcohol or impairment based on the information we've been given. This is just a really sad turn of events. I hope Tiger can compete again, but even if he can I doubt he will ever be at the form to be able to win a major.

Well...it's a single car rollover. That only happens if there's user error. Had he been doing what he shoulda been, this doesn't happen.

It's not appalling to try to understand what happened, which of course means finding fault.

In this case, it's Tiger's fault.

The thing about speeding is that it makes every other bad thing worse. It makes you more likely to have a wreck and it makes the wreck worse. If you're not wearing a seat belt, it makes you more likely to be seriously hurt. If you're drinking or texting or drugged, it makes you more likely to be in a one-car wreck. Speeding adds risk in all sorts of ways.

Craziest wreck that I saw back in Cali was a car full of 20 year olds that were drunk and high while on the freeway. Lost control and crossed into the median. Unfortunately it was an area that had nothing stopping them and it went up a hill. They launched off the top and landed the front of the car right into the windshield of a lady in her 40s. Obviously killed her instantly.

I drive home on a two lane highway. I'm usually in the right lane and eleventy billion people are in the left lane all doing 80 plus tail gaiting each other trying to be first, stuck behind the lead car who won't give up the lane. If the majority of those people lost control at that speed, they'd die and probably take others with them.

People drive stupid nowadays. You only have to be going too fast for the wrong conditions, that could be a measly forty miles an hour.

I'm still a fairly quick, aggressive driver and generally go about 10 over the speed limit. Unless I'm on one of the local Chicago area expressways, that is. Over the past few years, the average speed has crept up into the 75-80 range, even though the posted speed limit is either 55 or 60. I routinely do about 80 on the expressways, and often get passed by people doing 90 or more. I don't see nearly as many cops as I used to, either. I don't know if that's a local thing or a national trend. Hardly ever see people pulled over anymore.

If I'm driving out in the country, though, especially in other states, I'll stick to 10 over the posted limit. Speed limits are so high now that 10 over is about as fast as I want to go anyway.

When I was a kid I averaged about a ticket a year, but now I drive faster than ever and haven't gotten one in over a decade (knock on wood). Outside of a couple of fender tappers, I've never been in an accident where I was driving (also knock on wood).

Last one I got was 91 in a 65 out in bumblefuck Wisconsin on I-39. Some douche in a silver Toyota SUV was in the passing lane doing 60, staying right next to another vehicle in the slow lane. Fucker was clearly doing it deliberately. Eventually the other vehicle slowed, I cut around on the right, and then, of course, the SUV sped up. I floored it to get around him and BAM nailed by a cop waiting just over a small rise. $300 ticket.

Pretty sure the SUV guy was a cop and got nailed in a sting. Got nailed in bumblefuck Illinois on I-55 in the exact same way. Perhaps it was just bad luck, but I really don't believe in coincidences like that.

I think driving at high rates of speed is pretty much everywhere now. And yes, in the city the police don’t monitor as much as they should. Probably because it’s dangerous along congested city highways to pull people over and the police have higher priorities.

I see bad and dangerous driving everyday in my area. Tailgating doing 85 MPH, cutting off 18 wheelers at high rates of speed, suddenly slamming on brakes unnecessarily....you name it.

I feel like there needs to be a National campaign to get people to slow down.

We really don’t do a good job of emphasizing highway safety anymore.

One of those things you just laugh at looking back, so stupid.

Whenever I go back to KC, I really have to concentrate on only driving 8-10mph over on the highways... around here, ~15 over is closer to the norm and you'll still get passed by some people.

What you're describing is more about impatience and aggressive driving, probably compounded by idiots driving slow in the fast lanes and what not... I've never been crazy impatient to the point of weaving in and out of lanes just to get one car ahead after changing lanes 10 times, but I'm also more patient these days.

Plenty of idiot speeders out there can't or won't think further ahead than wanting to pass one more car, making it more dangerous for everyone, far beyond simply speeding.

If speeders were a bit more patient and non-speeders would simply GTFO of the way, speeding wouldn't be seen as being nearly as dangerous in itself.

I'm really an impatient person, but for some reason it doesn't carry over to driving. I'm a very calm driver compared to the masses. I see people and friends I'm with as a passenger always freakout. Someone cuts them off, they get so mad. I just shrug and go meh.

I wouldn't say I'm impatient but I do have a tendency to fuck around. That's what happened with that ticket, I wasn't in a hurry to get anywhere, I was just screwing around after getting a full tank of gas. Cop was just lucky a dumbass was about to fall right into his lap.

I've only had a few speeding tickets in my life, but if I could pay $100/year to up my personal speeding limit to 10-15 over on the highway, I would pay it.... so, like any other consequences people have to deal with, speeding tickets are practically a tax you're willing to pay to drive faster (until the tax becomes to high or frequent, of course).

I hate crawling next to huge trucks waiting for the idiot in front of me to pass at +0.1 over the speed limit or getting clumped in with a bunch of cars all going the same speed with no one passing each other... those situation are more dangerous than driving at 10 over and I just want to get the hell away from people.

Granted, I literally told a cop that once on 435 in Overland Park after I finally busted free from a line of cars all driving a couple mph under for miles practically bumper to bumper, because that's safe! ...and was busted at like 12 over.... and he wasn't impressed with my logic.

I mentioned this before but I took my family back to KC for the holidays in December 2019 and because we made it a last minute decision, we drove 1,650 miles each way.

I took the Southern Route (Cali, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas) on the way there and saw exactly two Highway Patrolmen. On the way home, I (stupidly!) took the Northern route (Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Cali) and saw 17 Highway Patrolmen in Kansas alone.

I saw one in Colorado and one in Utah after that and of course, none on California freeways.

And for me, 75 MPH on those interstates was plenty fast enough. I didn't even speed because not only was it not necessary, I was driving a black SUV with California plates, so I was already conspicuous enough to the police.

Seventeen cops in Kansas? Damn. I guess tickets are still a primary revenue source there. Hell, I don't think I've seen 17 cop cars around here in the past three months.

I made your northern route drive once, when I helped my cousin move to L.A. Wasn't worried about cops because the goddamn rental truck I was driving wouldn't go over 65. Beautiful scenery, though, at least once you get past Denver. I'm glad I only had to drive it east to west - I flew back.

I've always maintained that they should sentence rapists and ax murderers to endlessly drive across Kansas. Can't imagine doing it for a living. LMAO

What's up, fucker lol

I'm in Orlando. Traffic isn't nearly what it is in LA but these people do not know how to drive.

Honestly, though, I went to LA a few years ago (I was going to hit you up but you were on your hiatus!). The traffic was SO bad. Literally, it's as bad as anyone has ever said it was, easily. I was there during the week and you'd jump on the highway (any highway) at 1 PM to bumper-to-bumper traffic. I've never seen anything like it.

Buuuutt, I actually remarked to my girlfriend how good the drivers there seemed compared to Florida. I was very impressed. We flew into San Diego, stopped in Laguna, went to Vegas, then came back to San Diego to fly out. I probably drove 1,000 miles over SoCal/Vegas that week and not once did I almost get into an accident or think some other driver was an idiot.

Seventeen cops in Kansas? Damn. I guess tickets are still a primary revenue source there. Hell, I don't think I've seen 17 cop cars around here in the past three months.

They were parked on the grassy medians with one cop for each side of the freeway. It was insane and unfortunately, exactly as I remembered.

I will never, ever take that route again, especially in the winter. I was on I-70 from Kansas to Denver and it was fine but once past Denver, it was at least -20 and snowing heavily.

It was so freaking cold that my wiper fluid was frozen so all I could see was the lights of my vehicle reflecting off the snow and at one point, I was 10,000 feet above sea level but couldn't see a damn thing. If my family had been awake, they would have been terrifed.

I've always maintained that they should sentence rapists and ax murderers to endlessly drive across Kansas. Can't imagine doing it for a living. LMAO

LMAO

Oh and another thing. Everyone drives thinking their cars are some highly tuned corvette Z51

I assure you your minivan, Kia Sportage, jacked up 4x4, etc is not
Going to handle like that weaving in and out of traffic at high rates of speed

IIRC (this was over 30 years ago now) we made the drive in May. The weather was beautiful, with two exceptions.

1. Driving west through Kansas, probably an hour or so past Topeka, we encountered a massive storm front. It like something out of a Stephen King book - this giant, towering black wall, stretching the length of the horizon. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. When it hit, it was like instant darkness in the hardest rain I've ever experienced. All I could do was pull off on the shoulder and wait it out. After what seemed like an eternity but was only a few minutes, it passed and the sun came out again. Fuck that was weird.

2. Emerging from the western end of the Eisenhower Tunnel. Seriously, what the fuck? It was warm and sunny when I went in, and then instant blizzard on the other side, icy road and the steepest grade drop I've ever seen on an interstate highway. It was absolutely jarring, and also scary as hell. I made that drive again some years later but was prepared for it that time - I think that time was it was June, and it was still horrible winter conditions. Does that place ever have nice weather? Shit.

as a driver of a fast car, it is almost always those types of cars that are the ones that want to race you or screw with you. I don't get much shit from Camaro/Challenger/other Mustang/even tuner car drivers, every once in a while, but nine times out of ten the guy that does want to try and race me is some jerk off in a 4Runner or a Dodge Ram. One time I had a Ram towing a work trailer step on his pedal in an attempt to beat me in one of those areas where his lane was ending and he had to merge into my lane. Was like Jesus Christ just get in front of me if its that important you reckless fucking idiot.

I drive across Kansas all the time with work. It's laughable 17 lucky to see 3 in a day and that usually on the turnpike.

Dude is fucked. From the day his dad passed away, his life has been a complete disaster.

The guy has had like 20 surgeries.

Wouldn't change places with him for all the money in the world.

You know, I almost started a thread the other day asking if anyone would want Tiger’s life. He’s always struck me as being one of most unhappy people I’ve ever seen.

He is supposedly a real tightwad, horrible tipper, standoffish, not too friendly with many players on tour and is becoming more and more isolated. He lives in a bubble, similar to Michael Jackson.

When he went on his Whore Tour and killed his marriage to Erin, he lost Jasper Parnevik and his wife along with a lot of married golfers. Their wives all hate Tiger.

I don't think he has a strong relationship with his Mom just his kids.

Dude had it all at one point and now except for the money, not sure what the guy has left. :(

It wasn't winter; it was late spring both times.

I don't even want to think about how fucked up it must be in winter.

I think he has some relationships and he is a good father as far as I can see... I don’t think he’s as bad as you’re making him out to be...

These are known facts. All the pro athletes have made fun of his no tipping and cheapness. I think Jordan is the same way.

I think he is probably a good father but he did risk his marriage being a man-whore so does that make him a poor Dad to his kids? They certainly get impacted by what happens.

I think the guy is just on an island.....

Heh. That's not uncommon. A front will get stuck on one side, usually the western side. You go in one side and it can be anything on the other side, and you just blow out of the tunnel into whatever it is with no warning. They've actually had to close the highway on July 4th due to snow.

They really should put up warning signs in the westbound lane of the tunnel. Something like "The weather on the other side is going to suck ass. Brace yourself."

Oh, and back to the cheap ass non-tippers. Yes, apparently Jordan is horrible as well. At least according to Charles Barkley.

I used to speed all the time. All the time. One day it dawned on me that I never got there faster and it cost me thousands of dollars over the years.

I just don't speed anymore, ever.

It's certainly giving me flashbacks from when I hit that deer at 80mph a couple of months ago. That could have gone real bad.
