Mrs B is working tonight, so I stopped off at LC's BBQ on Blue Parkway for a beef sandwich and fries to go.Snapped a couple pics. The smoker right behind the order counter, the line waiting to order, and "LC's Spot" in the dining room that was his office. Sandwich with fries was around $12. Worth every penny.

Love the giant catfish. Someone had fun reeling that bad boy in.

Next time I'm in KC I'm putting this place on the list.

It's a true BBQ Joint. Nothing fancy, building is a grease pit in a bad neighborhood. Food is outstanding.

I remember describing it to someone after the first time I went there...

"behind the counter is...um...you know those big, black iron bank safes? Like would fall on someone in a Yosemite Sam cartoon? There's something like that behind the counter, only instead of bars of gold stacked up inside, it's stacked up with cooked meats..."

Place is filthy. My shit is always burnt. Food is bland. I don't get it. If you eat Joes, Q39, Blind Box, Jackstack, Brobecks...why would you want to go to this shithole?

How was the customer service?

Miminal.

Them: What you want?
Me: Beef and fries to go.
Them: $12, you're number 54. Give us a few minutes.
Me: OK.

Took about five or ten minutes to get my grub. And I don't know what Mr. Sunshine is talking about. My brisket sandwich was excellent. Well loaded with strips of tender brisket and the fries were plentiful and tasty. Sauce is outstanding. Well worth the money.

I used to live over there for about 5 months. Off Eastwood but back in the woods. Real close to LCs. It's a shady area for sure but fortunately I never had any problems there at all. Ate LC's way too much when I was living in that spot. It's the sauce and the fries that sets it apart for me.

LC's is a love/hate kinda place for some reason. I personally think it's great. Yeah, the place is greasy, but if that bothers you there's plenty of other places to visit. You're missing out though. Their sauce is good enough that I typically keep it in my fridge. I hit it up quite a bit on the way to Royals/Chiefs games, then head down what used to be Coal Mine Road, to end up right at Gate 5 at the stadium.

Probably should go, it's pretty good. Just grab yo shit and try and not eat it on the way home. It's not really a neighborhood, it's zoned mostly commercial and it's horrible, you are right. All the more reason to go. Nobody dines in at l.c.'s even before the pandemic. The brisket there is top 5 in the world on good days, usually it's in the top three in KC.

Moved from KC in 97, one of my go to places when I go back if I get the chance. It has always been a dive, but unless it has changed greatly the best burnt ends and the fries that were fat and crispy lard bombs.

Us oldmen agree. 'Cept one trip was enough for me.

But once again....BBQ is SOOOO subjective.

On a side note, 30+ years ago, I stopped at Zarda for lunch. The meat was about room temp. If I can't even get warm beef, I don't trust that restaurant. I've never returned.

I have the Zarda at 87th St. in Lenexa close to where I work. I like it because they have a drive thru. Their BBQ is OK, not the best in the city, but OK. I used to have Hayward's BBQ pretty close too, but they moved out to 75th St. in OPKS.

Since I drive from Lenexa to Independence daily, I can go to just about any BBQ place in town on the way home. I sometimes go to Bryant's on 18th St and sometimes to Gates on 12th St.

Used to go to Wyandotte #2 at 75th & Metcalf (iircc). Always the same - short end, fries (crinkly cooked to perfection), and an RC. No coke; no pepsi. RC cola only. Well, as far as the cola option goes.

Put L.C.’s in all but a handful of major metropolitan areas across the country and it is the best BBQ place in that city. It is a pit for sure but the brisket is amazing and rarely does a full sandwich in a to go order make it home.

I stopped by Dixon's Chili to take dinner home last night. Got some chili and tamales. I had heard from a friend of mine that their burgers are outstanding. I'd never had one. So I ordered a chili cheeseburger and IT WAS AWESOME. Took the chili home and used my own chopped onions, jalapenos, ketchup and shredded cheese. It was tasty, but got a little blowback right before bedtime. Nothing a little acid reducer wouldn't fix.

Mmm Dixon's chili cheeseburger. I bet I have eaten everything on the menu there. We lived at the blue ridge mall practically while doing the architectural design survey then construction staking of the enclosure of the mall. My favorite was Tuesday and tacos, yum they were good.

How things go full circle. I also surveyed it for the demolition and construction staked the pos Walmart that's there now. Ate at Dixons then too. Bannister Mall and Metro North rinse repeat. Seems like yesterday.
