View Full Version : Chiefs LEBS: what are the boundaries of each era of Chiefs' football?

The underappreciated Chief thread got me thinking two things:

1) I miss Tony Richardson
2) His tenure with the team spanned Marty's, Gunther's and Dicky V's tenures. He was a great piece offensively for Vermeil but does that make him more of a Vermeil era player than Marty and Gunther?

What delineates the span of Chiefs football on the whole knowing full well there's a Years Before Patrick Mahomes / Years After Patrick Mahomes fault line to look at?

Talk among yourselves.

Probably better to use Hank Stram as an era instead of Lenny

If you want to cover every year, you go ...

Stram era - 1960-1974
Steadman era - 1975-1988
Carl era - 1989-2000
Vermeil era - 2001-2005
Clark Hunt era - 2006-2012
Andy Reid era - 2013-2017
Patrick Mahomes era - 2018 - infinity

These are the guys who most defined those respective years in my opinion.

I became a fan during the Bill Kenney years. To me, each "era" is defined by its quarterback.

1. Len
2. Bill Kenney
3. Steve DeBerg
4. Montana / Bono/ Grbac
5. Trent Green
6. Matt Cassel
7. Alex
8. Jesus

That's eight "eras" over sixty years, which is a lot. But each of the quarterbacks on that list are pretty distinct from one another and defined the "era" of their respective teams. I lump the SF cast-offs together, as I felt basically the same way about all of them.

He was awesome. Kimble Anders has some serious ability too.

Man, I loved T-Rich as much as the next guy, but consider how far we have come from those days. I'm very much OK with replacing my fullback love with quarterback love.

Sorry, not meant to derail the question

I would say:
Dallas Years
Lamar brings team to KC till Stram gets whacked and leaves for New Orleans
Jack Steadman Stinks it Up for waaaaay too long
King Carl-Marty-Derrek Thomas
Lamar Hunt Dies, Clark Takes Over
Clark learns on the job the hard way (Pioli-Haley-Crennel nightmare)
Andy Reid signs on
Alex replaced by Mahomie as starting QB
Bart Vatch: Two Straight SBs (where we are now)
