Nice. The animation didn't have the blackout tunnel so hopefully that comes back. It also looks like a wooden coaster which would be a downgrade from the old one. No more sitting with legs wrapped around the person in front of you with no seat belts or safety bars. Those features made the old ride either great or a little awkward depending on who you were with.

I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the Timber Wolf.

WOF doesn't need 3 big wood coasters. And The Prowler is the better ride, IMO.

None of 'em compare to The Patriot, though. Man I love that one.

They tried to get rid of the timber wolf after the prowler opened but people through a fit.

They should tear down the TW and bring back the standup EXT.

I love wooden coasters.....yall a buncha sissynannies.

The Orient Express does need to come back though...I was pissed when they tore it down, but I also understand why, that thing had technical issues for decades. I remember one year I had a summer season pass, so did my buddy, Our parents would just drop us off there couple times a wk...there was one time we were on the OE and they couldn't stop the damn thing and we cycled through the ride about 4-5x (ok by me) before stopping it just after tunnel before you went up first hill and we had to walk down those side stairs a little ways. It was a great coaster though for what it did. If you were 5'9 or shorter your ears got the shit beat out of them.

The Prowler at WoF is a great coaster. And I've always loved the Timber Wolf.

But...this looks to be a side by side coaster, not the ones where your girl can grind her hoohah on your ween while riding. Too bad.

Haven’t been on the Timberwolf in forever, but I always liked it. May have been a little bumpy, but to me that just made it more enjoyable.

I worked at WOF from77 to 83. The rollercoasters all required 2 test rides before the park opens, I always tried to do the ZZ. Arrange for me to ride wiht a girl I was seeing, which changed constantly. Always got a hand full... Still friends with many of those girls. Now they Look like Aunt Bea, but that's cool because I look like uncle Joe from Petty Coat Junction.

Think I've told this before, but first time I was tall enough to ride a coaster, employee night for my dad's work at WoF, and I rode the Schussboomer like 20-25 times in a row because there wasn't a line.

Little 5-6yo me jumping off the coaster car as soon as they loosened the restraints, running back to the entrance with my dad trying to keep up [IIRC, I was tall enough . . . with a chaperone], me giggling the entire way for WAAAY over an hour, probably two.

Watching those two old videos of the Zambezi Zinger and Orient Express brought back a lot of memories...and also show how much these coasters have evolved and become exponentially more frightening. I used to get nervous the whole ride down to KC from Iowa thinking about whether I'd get on the Orient Express or not...which would now be barely more than a kids' ride at Magic Mountain.

Great memories, though. Along with the pitching speed game where I'd try to win helmets and then go in the parking lot that was so super heated that our feet would sink into the surface.

1-2-3 every year I worked at WOF the public could fill out a questionnaire on what they would like to see at the park. In order Ferris Wheel, More water rides, and wood Roller coaster they got after I left.

Never could figure out the attraction of a Ferris wheel but folks love them and the wood coasters for the thrill of being thrown around violently. Oh, 4 were more picnic areas.

The only drawback to the Orient when it wasn't old and shaking your bones was the first drop was steep but short.

So you had to decide if the greater thrill was up front where you're hanging out in space, or the back where you get maximum speed.

Per the WoF website - it will have the tunnel

Similarities
Guests will embark on their journey from the same queue building which has been updated with all new theming for this new adventure
As the train leaves the station, the adventure begins on an iconic spiral lift hill
>>A mid-course tunnel will catch riders by surprise<<
The reimagined Zinger sits in the same location at the heart of the Africa section of the park
Guests will experience a low-to-the-ground track that races through the trees and terrain of the African Serengeti

Did that with Mr. Freeze once, it had been raining and they had shut it down for lightning, and we happened to be there when they decided to re-open it, and we got 3 rides in before the rest of the park started queueing back up.

Any other time it was an hour wait easy.

I went to Worlds of Fun during the summer between my junior and senior years of high school a couple of years after Orient Express opened. We were there early on a weekday, and for about 45 minutes or so there was almost no line. We'd ride the coaster, then run back and do it again. I think we rode it about 10 times in a row. I loved that coaster when I was a kid, but I’d bet it would be pretty tame compared to what’s out there now.

I just went on the Velocicoaster at Universal a couple of weeks ago and that was one of the most insane rides I’ve been on. I would guess the Orient would be the third or fourth fastest roller coaster at that park.

Yeah, it was fun back in the day. I remember the Timber Wolf was a crazy rough ride, Orient was relatively smooth (but most anything was), and then Mamba came along and it was like riding on a cloud compared to the other two.

I wanted to make it back to Universal when I was in Florida a few months ago, but didn't make it to Orlando... went years ago and remember a couple rides at that time had far better velocity and what not than anything at WoF (much less something like Top Thrill Dragster that puts you a couple hundred feet in the air in like 3 seconds).

Yeah, it just looks like a tame prowler, but I loved the Zambi back in the day. The Timberwolf was too rickety, and the Orient Express, although fun, bounced your head back and forth off the restraints. Love the Patriot, the Prowler seems to be getting to be a rougher ride to where I think the ride operators are like, lets speed this up I wanna grab some lunch. I'll ride this one, but it'll be like a Spinning Dragons for me.

I haven't been to Worlds of Fun since the mid-80s. I don't remember the head bouncing thing, either because it wasn't so bad when the coaster was new or it just didn't bother me because I was young.

I think SDC is miles ahead of WOF. Their new time machine coaster is absolutely insane, spinning while going over loops upside down is intense. Wildfire is a great coaster, Outlaw run is the most fun I've had on a wooden roller coaster and Powder Keg is unlike anything WOF has with the 0-55 in 2.8 seconds. Thunderation is also a fun little coaster that seems similar to the Zinger. Plus the kids stuff is great.

I absolutely hate spinning rides. But once after having like 12 margaritas at the adult pool at Oceans of Fun i had enough liquid courage to board the Zulu.

I barely made it to the bathroom before i puked my guts out. Never again will i ride a spinning ride.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was going to Worlds of Fun. The trick is, you have to go on a weekday when it's raining in the morning. We would hang out and wait until the rain stopped, which was usually done around 9:00-10:00AM. Then the park would be basically empty and you could ride whatever you want, all afternoon, over and over.

So. Much. Fun.

I used to love roller coasters and high adrenaline activities.

I think something changed in my inner ear or something because the last time I took my kids to a theme park, I got motion sick on very basic rides that went in circles. I did ok on the big coasters at Silver Dollar City but my days of that shit are lessening in interest.

I absolutely hate spinning rides. But once after having like 12 margaritas at the adult pool at Oceans of Fun i had enough liquid courage to board the Zulu.

I barely made it to the bathroom before i puked my guts out. Never again will i ride a spinning ride.

I'll take on the baddest rides at Six Flags. I'll bungie jump over the theme park and ride a rollercoaster that barely holds me in the seat.

But you can keep that motherfucking Tea Cup shit to yourselves. Will not. No way. No how. And i don't care if your 3 y/o can ride it. Im not fucking riding the Tea Cups.

So. Much. Fun.

A couple of my cousins lived in Fenton, not far from Six Flags. Most weekdays during the summer, my aunt and some other parents would take turns driving them and their friends to the park, drop them off in the morning and pick them up after work. So they basically got to go to Six Flags dozens of times a season for several years, on weekdays when the place was basically wide open. They were given enough money to eat lunch, and apparently it was cheaper doing that, coupled with season passes, than hiring a sitter or worrying about them causing trouble at home when they were older. Growing up in Jefferson City, I generally got to go to either Worlds of Fun, Six Flags or Silver Dollar City once every other year or so, and usually on a weekend when they were mobbed.

When I'd see them at Christmas, my cousins would bitch about getting bored going to Six Flags so much. God I fucking hated them. :#

That's actually pretty smart. Reminds me of those old couples who spend all their time on cruise ships. They are often cheaper than retirement communities anymore.

With far better treatment, food and accommodations, too. Nursing homes are perversely expensive and from what I've seen, generally awful places.

It blows WOF away in the coaster department. This is also the last year for fire in the hole. SDC is going to upgrade by the same people who designed the new coaters you mentioned.

I did.

The Patriot and Mamba blow it away.

It's cool for some of the sentimental aspects, but a pretty weak coaster overall.

Wildcat at Fairyland park was an adrenaline rush when I was but a wee lad.
I had graduated from Kiddieland rides.
