This sucks. What a weird last year with Chief's fans stories.

She sounded like a very devoted fan.

St. Joseph

A Kansas City Chiefs fan died Sunday while attending the team’s training camp practice on Missouri Western’s campus.

Jessica Tangen, of Riverside in Platte County, passed away Sunday morning, Mosaic Life Care said in a statement.

“Jessica’s family shared that she was a lifelong Chiefs fan and loved cheering for the team,” Mosaic Life Care said in the statement. “Please join us in lifting up the grieving family with your thoughts and prayers.”

Mosaic said its caregivers provided medical attention to Tangen at training camp. Others who assisted included the Buchanan County EMS and Missouri Western staff.

Shortly after practice ended Sunday, an ambulance with its lights could be seen parked at the bottom of the hill near the Chiefs’ practice fields.

Mosaic Life said it would not be releasing further details.

IF it was the heat, I saw the official Chiefs twitter account saying you were only allowed to bring in 20oz of water in...LOL. Hope they let people refill for free and weren't charging 10 dollars a refill or some crap like that......

This heat is a bitch. Mailmen are keeling over dead while walking their route.I don't care how old you are, prefect health, no medical issues..... you don't hydrate in this heat, you can compromise yourself.

I walk 3-5 miles out in the summer heat here in Florida. I'm not in the best shape either but I hydrate constantly while out in the heat. Never had an issue.

How old was she?

Years ago I worked with a guy and he was in his 20s. They went on a hike in Arizona in June and got too far in. Werent even really lost just didnt have enough water and he died. He wasn't even gone more than 5 hrs. Heat exhaustion.

Happens nearly every year here. Some tourist(s) come into to town and decide to go hiking up Camelback Mt or whatever and never bring enough water.

Just how hot has it been in St. Joe? Today and for the rest of the week it doesn't look that bad at all.

I'd say she was in her late 30s or early 40s based on news reports but I'm not sure.

Had an 11 year old daughter.

When you are in a hot AND humid climate, you can usually see all the sweat and moisture you are losing to keep hydrated.

Here in Arizona, you lose moisture by your skin wicking and NEVER sweat so you think you are hydrated. I fainted my second year here from heat and dehydration in a gas station convenience store on North Scottsdale Rd. I woke up with a few people standing over me talking to 911 calling me an ambulance. I went inside to get water because I started feeling faint but it was already too late. Slid down the island while sipping water and never knew what hit me. Took me 45 minutes of sipping coconut water on the floor of the store to get myself back to manageable levels. Scary shit.

That happened to me as a kid, 5-6 y/o.

Road trip with my dad from CA to TX. Car broke down in the AZ desert. We got a hotel while we waited for the repair.

I remember we cut through an empty dirt lot to take a shortcut to the nearest store. Had to climb under a fence to get through.

I remember going under the fence, then i can just remember my eyes closing and going black.

Woke back up in the hotel room bed with cartoons on.

Boomers are obsessed with hydration. LOL. I lost six pounds of water weight just a few weeks ago taking my dog on a run, and yet I still live...It's not the lack of hydration that kills you it's living in air conditioning all day and not being acclimated to the heat. Once that internal body temp hit's 104 things shut down. Water or no water...Dehydration from marathon\iron man's or cutting weight will **** your internal organs for life but it's not something I'm ever going to have to live with (now that I'm > 40 and have no desire to do that shit ever again).

The 1936 heatwave must have been a real bitch. I remember the 1980 and 83 heat waves with drought being a bitch working outside. Our work trucks didn't have ac back then because the company bought the trucks and it was an option until the 90s when they signed a fleet agreement with Enterprise. Enterprise wouldn't order fleet trucks without ac because they wouldn't sell well on the used market without it.

Also I have worked all over the desert SW and sweat like a MF. That is your body's coolant. If you don't sweat in dry heat you are probably not hydrating well and don't know it. There is some suspect info being passed in this thread. I have watched every OSHA training film on safety because when you set out at a new pipeline construction site its off to the trailer for an hour or two of safety films hydration in desert climates is one of them.

FYI, whether you sweat or not has a significant relation to the relative humidity in the air.

When it is dry, your sweat evaporates without accumulating, so you have no real perception of sweat. Our humidity in the SW is so low that cold drinks don’t even accumulate condensation.

As soon as monsoon season comes around, the humidity goes up you start to notice the sweat significantly more than in the dryer season

My impression is that because people don’t sweat here they forget that they still need to hydrate sometimes.

Evaporative cooling is actually more effective in dryer climates than in higher humidity. The evaporation occurs quickly so there is significant cooling.

Yeah your idea of not sweating in the desert is walking 10 yards to your golf ball hitting it jumping on the golf cart and hauling ass to the next shot. That ride will dry you out if you had a chance to sweat.

That's 98* 58% humidity, Its when you stop sweating and your crew members notice you are jabbering jibberish and flushed pale skin you are in trouble. I have been overcome by the heat and have seen people overcome by the heat. I don't care if you are in Arizona Timbuctoo or in the Arctic you don't hydrate you may get dehydrated. When I moved to Arizona, I routinely had the A/C off unless it hit ~85⁰+ in the house... with a ceiling fan circulating air, I'd hardly notice that it was over 80⁰.

In the midwest and other parts of the country, 78⁰+ can be pushing it, mostly just needing it on so it doesn't get too swampy.

Happens nearly every year here. Some tourist(s) come into to town and decide to go hiking up Camelback Mt or whatever and never bring enough water.

Just how hot has it been in St. Joe? Today and for the rest of the week it doesn't look that bad at all.

In the late 90s my unit was sent to Fort Huachuca to help the border patrol with drug interdiction. We had a guy who was in his early 20s fall out because he was drinking too much alcohol in his off time and he'd started his day dehydrated.

If they had been drinking 330 gallons of water a day they wouldn't need to be cool!

Interesting theory but I feel like it may have more to do with the paramedics not getting up at a responsible hour and sleeping the day away

People up north think it’s crazy to keep my thermostat set to 78, but with the humidity here it still feels pretty cold inside. I’m sure I’d have it set colder if I lived back in KC.

There were times in Florida this past winter that I'd run the A/C and heat on the same day. ROFL ...not sure I'd ever get used to that level of swampy, much less leaving all of the windows closed 24/7 to combat the humidity when it was otherwise pleasant outside.

It would be nice to open the windows from time to time. I assume my house has heat, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever turned it on. In the “winter” I might start the morning off in a hoodie before being in shorts by lunchtime. When I used to live in AZ, I never felt that hot even when it was like 110 out. The one thing that sucked was getting into my car after it had been sitting in the sun and it was too hot to touch anything.

Yeah, people make fun of AZ heat all the time, but I don't think it really gets oppressive until it hits at least 107. The downside is the Phoenix area and lower altitudes will go weeks without dropping below 90... so you can leave a baseball game at 10pm and it's still 95. That gets kind of old after 6 weeks straight, IMO.

I was surprised Florida has such a big difference between night and day, being surrounded by water... but, at least some days it got cool enough overnight that the humidity wasn't so bad.

The scary thing here in AZ is touching something like a lounge chair, pool railing, mailbox, grill or propane tank or anything else that has been baking in 115° heat and sun then getting a massive burn on your skin. You learn quickly what not to touch or sit on.

Getting in a car as a prior poster noted can be brutal when your shorts don't protect the back of your legs on leather seats. God damn that is painful.

Shit like this...
https://www.azfamily.com/2023/07/24/phoenix-area-doctors-are-treating-spike-patients-burned-by-falling-ground/

PHOENIX (CNN) -- It is so hot in Maricopa County, Arizona, that people are being brought into the emergency room with significant, sometimes life-threatening burns. For the past three or four weeks of this record heatwave, people have been burned just by falling on the ground.

“Summers are our busy season, so we anticipate that this sort of thing is going to happen. But this is really unusual — the number of patients that we’re seeing and the severity of injuries — the acuity of injuries is much higher,” said Dr. Kevin Foster, director of burn services at the Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health. “The numbers are higher and the seriousness of injuries are higher, and we don’t have a good explanation for it.”

Every single one of the 45 beds in the burn center is full, he said, and one-third of patients are people who fell and burned themselves on the ground. There are also burn patients in the ICU, and about half of those patients are people burned after falls.

They're probably still in a state of disbelief. When these unexpected tragedies fall from the sky it really hits home after the first week. Gut wrenching...Something happens after the first month though where you can start to move on and internalize the finality. I'd offer my prayers to her family.

Apparently boomers like to drink water when it’s hot. Millennials also like to drink the same water, but their water is somehow more hip because they refer to it as “vintage” or “craft brewed”. Gen Z is too lazy to drink water, so they just have their parents drink it for them. Gen X doesn’t really care or understand why everyone else is arguing about the water they used to drink out of the garden hose.

The idea you drink water when its hot outside isn't really age dependent and is way more intelligence dependent.

No but a boomer would say that people are dying from heat because they are soft because of air conditioning.

Boomer isn't actually an age, it's a mentality. A lot of it is "anyone that doesn't do things the way I did when I was younger is an idiot". Another hallmark of the boomer is not being able to back up anything with evidence aside from personal anecdotes.

It's not that bad, even when it's 115. When you're sitting in a cart in the shade and you've got the wind from moving blowing past you it's way better than being in the midwest on an 85 degree high humidity day imo.

I played the Raven a couple days ago for $29. Started at 2:06pm and finished at 5:15. Kind of my "home course" since it's 15 minutes from my house and is on my Arcis Players Card, which gets you some sweet discounts. Championship-level course for sure.
