Just watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure a few days ago on HBO.

He was great with Johnny Depp in Blow.

One of his very first appearances on TV was about 45 years ago on the original Gong Show.

He weathered the "whacking off in a theater" scandal pretty well.

R.I.P. to one of the most original comedians ever. Riding his magical bicycle in heaven.

Let's f****** go! Pee-wee's Big adventure came out when I was in elementary school. Fifth grade. I'll never forget it. Why do you ask? Because my last name is f****** Herman. All throughout elementary, middle and especially high school and even my first couple years of college people would call me Peewee or feel the need to impersonate Peewee, or act out certain scenes from big adventure. S*** got old real f****** fast. Now I can appreciate the fact that he was a pretty good actor and the character is truly unique and it's my own misfortune to share the name - But kids can be really f****** mean and stupid and I had to deal with it for years. So f*** that guy. I'm glad he's dead. Just kidding, not really, just kidding.

Oh man just remembered he was the overzealous exterminator in Dunstin Checks In. Panned by the critics but my kids loved it and so did I. Great spoof of snobby rich people in an elite hotel managed by Jason Alexander. Lord Rutledge is the classic snob villain. When he's checking in and the orangutan Dunstin he's hiding in his suitcase is making noise he explains "It's my sport coats. I've been told they're a bit loud". Man I was thrilled when Pee Wee unexpectedly showed up late in the movie.

Pee Wee was a kids show. Add to that Reubens odd persona and he had to walk a knifes edge to avoid being accused of being a pedophile. Any kind of sexual scandal was basically career death. I'm just glad he was able to recover and have something of a career in later years.

And as far as I can tell Toobin came back in a limited role when attention died down and has already left the network. Not seeing any massive moral shift.

Eh, people are weird. Especially people with as unique a point of view as Paul Reubens. Honestly the case against him regarding the images found at his place seemed thin to me, but without knowing what exactly was found it's impossible to say. I understand if it affects someone's ability to enjoy his work.

I posted that clip but didn't have the full code, so it effectively killed the page... you couldn't scroll past my post at all, I know this because its a mistake I've made before

Morals haven't changed, everyone has a different definition of morals. The only thing that changed is some people in power assuming their moral code is the correct one have less power to punish others with a different set.

For instance people freaking out about sex have less power to lose their minds about it.

I kind of agree but its pretty different for a guy who entertains kids. And there’s other stuff after the theater incident that is a little questionable. As someone else said it actually may have been a misunderstanding. But I don’t think most people are aware that there was a second incident.

51 was broken... I noticed if I clicked edit on that one, which was a TenBeers post, it took me to an edit page for stevieray's post. I deleted 51 (which was just a dupe of 52 anyway) and can now see everything.

Not sure I've ever seen a thread broken like that, where it skips a bunch of posts as opposed to preventing the rest of the page from loading. 38 is also stevieray's youtube video, so I guess that makes some sense, as it recovered once it loads another iframe bit of code.
