View Full Version : Chiefs ESPN predicts Sky Moore will "Level-Up" in 2023-24

From rotational player to "solid starter"

Skyy Moore, WR, Chiefs
Kadarius Toney might have been an obvious pick for this list, but the former Giants speedster hasn't been able to stay healthy for any significant stretch. He's already questionable for Week 1 after knee surgery in late July. The Chiefs believe Toney can become a star -- and Justyn Ross is looking like the player who many expected to be a first-round pick before suffering a run of injuries -- but it's just tough to count on either of those players to be on the field for even 500 offensive snaps.

With JuJu Smith-Schuster leaving for the Patriots, Moore is the most likely candidate to step in and play when the Chiefs have two or three wide receivers on the field. The 2022 second-rounder struggled to attract regular playing time and was a liability as a punt returner during his rookie campaign, but he still averaged 1.6 yards per route run.

It's usually dangerous to back wide receivers who don't show much in Year 1, but one pre-draft comp for Moore struggled early in his career before turning into a Pro Bowler. Golden Tate was anonymous for his first year and a half with the Seahawks before growing into a more significant role and eventually emerging as a star in Detroit. If Moore can stay on the field for the Chiefs, he should be able to produce even quicker.

Excited to see what he can do. Can't really tell if this article means to target fantasy football or not, but I can't imagine taking him in fantasy drafts outside of dynasty leagues or as a very late round flyer in redraft. What Juju did would be his absolute ceiling in 2023, and that was only good for WR32 or so.

It's never too early to start your fantasy football season

The offseason is heating up and it's the perfect time to kick off your fantasy season. Create a league and customize league size, scoring and rules to play in the league you want to play in.

Create a league today!

Sounds fun! Thanks!

I don't think that's necessarily true, at all. He has several physical advantages over '22 Juju, who was basically just big and slow, but didn't drop the ball.

Should have never been put on punt returns. Those fumbles killed his confidence his rookie year. That Chargers game is a flash of what he should be, going forward.

I should say- it's entirely likely that Moore won't catch more passes in '23 than Juju did in '22. But that's not to say he can't be more productive. Faster, quicker, and known for breaking tackles in college.

I expect a very committee oriented approach this season, depending on relative health and matchups each week.

"Solid starter" sounds about right.

Probably the smart bet as it's going to be a committee approach again surely. Only caveat I think is if Toney misses a decent wedge of games. I'm high enough on Skyy to think he carves out a role above solid starter in that scenario and is more relied upon

If Toney jumps he’s liable to injure something.

Toney I think just won't be healthy often enough to be a top option. But that's ok, he's electric when he is, just don't plan on it.

I think it's going to be Moore, MVS, Rice, and James with the dark horse Ross picking up targets as the season goes on. And Toney for about half the games.

But that's just my gut feeling.

By next year our young WR Core could be one of the best in the league.

Can't wait to see how Toney (1st rd), Moore (2nd rd), Ross (~1st rd), and Rice (2nd rd) develop!

Heard yesterday that the Chiefs were the team with the most yards and utilization success from the slot. A lot of that was Kelce but a lot of it was also Juju.

Now that Juju is gone I think Skyy is gonna get a ton of opportunity there

People are already predicting James will have more yards than Ross. Well consider that James is still learning the playbook and Ross has had a year more of it.

That's important. I would not be surprised to see Ross not only make the team but get more yards than James.

In fact I feel that James is a backup plan in case the young guys don't work out.

It seems ideal for him. Catch and run. Be the guy that gets good separation for quicker hitters. At times sit in the right spots. Can do those things but with way better athleticism than juju. not Ideally a lead guy but a good option for this role. I don't know if I'm just being a homer but at least in practice reps he seems to have really crisped up his routes and release.

Skyy looked pretty good last year in TC as well. And many reporters predicted that Skyy would be a primary target in 2022.

Then we found out that he had little experience vs. zone, an issue that reskin a pair of INTs, and could be jammed at the LoS and effectively taken out by bigger/more physical DBs.

Consequently almost all of his limited success came out of the slot when he couldn’t be jammed. On a side note, over 70% of Richie James’ receptions in 2022 were earned when he played out of the slot as well.

The hope is that he’s worked on his strength, his hand fighting, releases and has learned how to play zone.

It's too early to tell but that's something that stood out to me so far. He seems to be really active with his hands. It kind of feels like our defense has been really chippy too which should help our WRs quite a bit. But you're right that he needs to prove it first

If he's having success against our D, I'd argue that's a good thing.

He gave us a little taste of what's to come in that Chargers game when we had a bunch of guys hurt.
I love his hands. He has these huge hands and just plucks the ball out of the air. It's a nice change after watching Tyreek basket catch everything for 5 years.
