There is no way that is true. If you're a general manager at this level, and have any intention of furthering your career, ie increase salary, move to another team, etc, you have to do everything in your power to put a winning product on the field.

The only good thing about firing him now, we would not have to worry about him somehow pulling 3 of the last 4 out of a hat, and then retaining him because he was 8-8. I don't see that happening, but he needs to get the boot after the season.

He goes, unless he can swallow his pride and return to the DC position. Gunther is the poster child for the Peter Principle. He was a good DC, but a terrible HC. He had his dreamed-of shot at the big chair and he failed miserably. Time to move on.
