Notice how he lingers with his legs spread while doing jumping jacks? He knows exactly what he's doing.

So, what...are we supposed to take off from carriers this time and bomb some French, uh...I mean German, island?

In spite of being just the token ball turret gunner, I speak on behalf of CPT Logical. Our co-pilot is still AWOL (something about conscientious objector status), and we need a replacement.

Kevin, you have to do El Duderino before Thursday night, I'll be out of town for 2 days and I don't think I can concentrate without knowing if I'm dead or alive.

Kevin, you have to do El Duderino before Thursday night, I'll be out of town for 2 days and I don't think I can concentrate without knowing if I'm dead or alive.
Kevin already let me see the Mission. It's not pretty for you. On the way to the target you get shot in the head. You don't die, but become a drooling vegetable. Strange thing is that no one notices you are any different for most of the flight.

On the way back to base, there is a pesky Fw190 that won't give up. He's directly behind our plane, but our rear gun is out. I'm the only one w/ a clear shot, but since I can't shoot worth crap, we formulate a plan.

We discover your condition and decide since you will be even more useless to us as a vegetable, we'll throw you at the following Fw190. It's a perfect shot and you fly right into the cockpit of the Nazi plane. You drool all over the controls causing them to short circuit and the plane spirals out of control to the ground.

Your act of selflessness saves our crew. In appreciation of your act and to remember the brave vegetable you were, we name our favorite vegetable, corn, after you. "Pass the SNR" is heard often during dinner. And "We're out of toilet paper again? Hand me an SNR cob, I gotta take a dump" is often heard after dinner.

Hope that helps. Have a safe trip. :thumb:

And MOST important of all, I am not injured in the least.

However, I have severe doubts about gobo - we are three missions into the swing of it and he has yet to hit a single target.

We all gotta go sometime....it's just better to have it happen in the early missions than to get to the tenth and have your plane crash before getting to the bombing site.

Some of us have that Memphis Belle luck. That's bad ju-ju Russ. Kevin may start rolling snake eyes your next mission. ROFL At least your crew has made it back from your 4th mission. We haven't got off the ground yet. Every mission so far at least one plane hasn't made it back. At the rate we're going no one is going to get in 25 missions. I wonder if the attrition rate is close to what it was in actual life. I've read books on the bombing raids of Ploesti and Bremerhaven in 1943 where 60% of the planes that were sent out never came back. :deevee:

-starboard wing – outboard fuel tank catches on fire.

Uh, oh. We’ve seen this before. The fire grows out of control and can’t be extinguished, despite a dive to attempt to blow it out. Mr. Blond reluctantly gives the order to bail out over France and points the plane down toward the target.

Pilot MrBlond (3), Right Waist Gunner T-post Tom (3), and Left Waist Gunner 6Iron (3) find each other on the ground and try to escape together. For five days they hide in farmhouses and get assistance from nearby families, but eventually find themselves at the end of German rifles. They are shipped to Germany to wait out the war.

Copilot HC_Chief (3) and Tail Gunner ndbbm (3) find each other on the ground and run. They have little chance, though, and nine hours later they’re captured. Germany is in their future.

Bombardier papasmurf (3) hits the ground running. Local villagers hide him and call the French Underground. Nine days later, after nourishing cheese and wine and a memorable encounter with the 19 year-old daughter of a safe house owner, papasmurf wades out and boards a small boat. The next day, he reports back for duty.

Navigator Chiefnj (3) can’t find any other crew members and hides in a small copse of woods. Trapped by German soldiers, he has no escape and is forced to surrender after 23 long hours. It’s off to Germany in a cattle train.

Engineer Cochise (3) and Ball Turret Gunner JefChef (3) run together for six hours with Germans hot on their trail. They can’t get away and surrender at gunpoint. Stalag 17 awaits.

Radio Op. KS Smitty (3) parachutes down right into the middle of a German-occupied town. Soldiers debate shooting at the parachute, but honorably wait until landing and ship KS Smitty off to Germany instead.

No bombing run.

-superficial damage to bomb bay

2 Fws circle, attack again

Sportsshrink fires, hits Fw190
Coogs fires, misses
Punkindrublic fires, misses

Undamaged Fw misses, breaks off attack

The hit Fw has appeared to notice that the tail gun is out. It lines up behind Kegger and strafes the entire aircraft from 6 o’clock with 6 hits.
-waist – MiketheWildcat sustains light wound to the middle of his chest
-superficial damage to tail
-starboard wing - #4 (outboard) engine is hit. The engine races out of control, sending the plane into a flat spin.
-port wing – inboard fuel tank catches fire.
-superficial damage to radio room
-superficial damage to starboard wing flap

This isn’t good. The left wing is on fire, and the outboard engine on the right wing is out of control. The plane yaws hard to the left and begins to spin. First Down Elvis works on cutting the fuel to the #4 engine while keg tries to keep control of the plane, which is now in a flat spin and dropping. The gunners scramble to get their parachutes ready.

The plane drops like a rock, fire mushrooming from the port wing and smoke billowing from the starboard #4 engine. 17,000 feet, 15,000 feet, 13,000 feet. First Down Elvis manages to cut off the fuel to the #4 engine.

11,000 feet, 9,000 feet, 7,000 feet. Keg pulls the plane out of the spin. The fire on the port wing is now huge, licking at the fuselage and Mike the Wildcat’s position. The waist bailout position is blocked.

Keg levels out, climbs rapidly to 8,000 feet, and dives violently to try to blow out the fire. First Down Elvis dumps the fuel load from the inboard port tank, causing the #2 engine to sputter and die. A huge pillar of fire billows from the inboard port tank as the expelled fuel ignites, but the effort is successful! The fire in the port wing goes out!

The #4 engine then explodes under the stress of the previous damage and the dive. The outer one-third of the right wing is shredded, and the shattered end catches fire. Keg orders a bailout at 2,000 feet above the English Channel as he begins to lose control.

Within ten seconds, the first seven crew members bail out.

Navigator Coogs (3) bails out first, from the nose. He has the misfortune to bail out as Kegger zigzags, and hits the propeller of the #3 engine. He’s dead by the time he hits the water.

Right Waist Gunner PunkinDrublic (3) bails out second. He lands well, but is lost is sea.

Copilot First Down Elvis (3) bails out third. He lands well, but is lost at sea.

Bombardier Mark M (3) bails out fourth. He lands well, and in two hours he is picked up by fishermen unharmed.

Tail Gunner Otter (3) dives out the damaged tail gun pod at the rear of the plane. He lands well, and after 12 hours of floating he is found chilled but okay by a British patrol boat.

Left Waist Gunner MiketheWildcat (3) bails out sixth. He lands well, but can’t remain afloat due to his wound and drowns.

Engineer Ptlyon (3) gets out just as keg loses control and the plane flips onto its back. His parachute catches fire and he dies after falling.

The plane is now out of control, augering toward the fast-rising water.

Pilot keg in kc (3) abandons his position in the out of control plane and crashes through the windscreen. Somehow he pulls the rip cord and the parachute works. In a supreme bit of luck, he lands in the water barely conscious but is immediately pulled out and rescued by a nearby British patrol boat.

Radio Op. Zebedee DuBois (3) couldn’t get out before the plane went out of control, but he had reached the exit point. He is flung out, deploys his chute, and lands well. He is then lost at sea.

Ball Turret Gunner sportsshrink (3) was in trouble early, because ball turrets don’t have room for parachutes, and he was wounded as well. During the chaos of the fall, he got out of the ball turret, but was unable to get his parachute on before it went out of control. He rides the plane into the water and is killed.

Aftereffects

Kegger may be gone, but it’s not forgotten. Three crew members are brought back to port by various naval vessels, so a replacement plane will fly again.

-tail gun knocked out of commission (otter is uninjured)

-tail gun hit again – pod destroyed. Otter is still unharmed somehow, but has to retreat inside the fuselage. He has to stay near the gaping hole to keep heat and oxygen, though

Fw scores 1 hit
-superficial damage to tail (Otter is really getting a workout back there)

Tail Gunner Otter (3) dives out the damaged tail gun pod at the rear of the plane. He lands well, and after 12 hours of floating he is found chilled but okay by a British patrol boat.Otter should change his name to 'Lucky'.

Heavy losses. Sad to see so many are resting in pieces. :shake:

What? No speaker phone?

I use the speaker phone for those long tele-conferences. I usually have the mute button on, so I can walk around getting coffee or other noisy stuff. Of course, when I have something to add to the conversation, I usually talk for a couple of minutes before I realize the mute button is still on.

Lucy Quipment has been kicking some butt. We have had good bomb runs and we have sustained little damage. I hope this keeps up. But I fear our luck will run out.

Their Mission #4 has to be one of the most successful sorties so far. Nice hit on the target, and then munched on a lot of fighters too, with no losses on their side. The other bomber crews are starting to take notice of you.

Yeah, be sure to tell your ground crew to be sure the gas cap is on tight. Hate for you to run out of gas halfway there.

I got my first kill of the war, now I have that bloodlust thing going on.

I just wonder if I'm throwing wrenches and screwdrivers at the other planes since I'm an engineer.

You going to send all of him back, MHM, or are you going to keep the leg? That'd be a great thing to put in the new tailgunner's bunk.

I think we'll keep it and just but stumpy in a box and ship him home... the leg is a good prop for jokes and it freaks out our pilot, so we'll hang on to it for a while.
