Dear Members of the ChiefsPlanet.com Community,

This is my 8000th post on this BB, and I’m sad to say it’s my last. I joined this community on August 22nd, 2000 – My Dad’s birthday. I’m not the best poster in the world, and am an asshole from time to time, but I feel I have contributed to this community, by posting like crazy, telling friends and Chief fans to check it out, and even sending some cash to help with the expenses.

The community feeling is why I came here and why I have stayed for so long. I have always voiced my disappointment when longtime members change their usernames because it takes away from the community feeling the Planet has built up over the years. Recently after a bet, which I lost my name was changed, it was all in good fun and got a good laugh out of it my self, but after many requests my name which was Hoover for 8-22-2000 to Feb 2004 have been The Lovely Jessica, to Perfect Man Boobs, and currently The Big Lewboobski, to put it simply I have had enough.

So starting immediately I will no longer be a member of this community. I wish you all and our beloved Chiefs all the best.

I hope you aren't serious, Hoover. I also hope the mods give you your name back. It's one thing to lose your name in a bet, but it sucks when the strong (people with mod powers) have fun at the expense of the defenseless (regular posters). In some places, a guy who does this might be mistaken for a bully. I'm sure (or at least hopeful) that in this case it is just a big misunderstanding and that Hoover will be back with 8001 soon.

Usually with these types of threads I feel no remorse. But I do this time as I consider Hoover a valuable poster. It is a shame to see him get upset with petty mod abuse that has long been a SOP around here. He was not one of the guys I thought could take a joke.

I agree with him on posters constantly changing their usernames, it can be very annoying trying to keep track of who is really who. But in the case of playfull mod abuse I have no issue as it is all in fun.

Added to it, the pity party "I'm leaving" thread and I am a bit disillusioned by this from this particular poster. But so goes life.

OK, I don't know what happened here so If anyone can answer my questions that would be great.

1. Who was the bet against?
2. Did anyone specify how long the name would be changed?

If not I would expect the name to eventually go back. Even when I won the bet against Tony_Gonzales that was supposed to change his name to Phoney_Gonzales before he turned into a giant woosy and changed his name to freakshow and pretended to be someone else I had no intention of keeping it that way for more that a month or so. People should think before they make these bets if they are not willing to live up to them. On the other hand I think Hoover is a great poster and contributor to the BB. Hope it works out.

Some of us take our role seriously. I went on such a rampage on what I believed to be the right thing 3 years ago that I asked Kyle to remove my moderator status. He asked that I go ahead and stay on as a silent moderator. I appreciate his faith in my abilities and I have done all I can to maintain his trust. I have yet to play a favorite with my entire time on the board, excluding one moron making an ass of himself anyway. I apologized for that moment - even though I believe it was fully justified. Now people like Taco John will tell you differently, and we can simply agree to disagree - I won't rehash it here.

I have banned three people, all who deserved it. I have never done a temporary ban either. I figure someone really has to screw up to be gone and they should be gone for good. I give warning to people for breaking the rules and I enforce the rules equilateraly. As much as I even despise the pettiness of some idiots (see burn@steak - I am not afraid to drop names), I won't moderate them unless they really cross over the line.

I realize I probably take the job too seriously, but I consider it a priviledge to be asked to do the job and I will always endeavor to keep it an equitable board.

I don't lock people's names, I don't change post counts, I don't reduce rep, other than the standard negative attachment that all of us have the ability to do (all of which are possible from the moderator's screens). I simply post and keep people from going over the edge with the rules - ALL people.

I also don't waste my time judging the other mods unless they breach serious protocol. They aren't earning a single dime, but they get to hear every single bitch and moan made by 3,000 people.

My belief is the less moderation, the better the board.

Personally, I wouldn't have screwed with Hoover, but I do think he is being thin-skinned about the subject.

In fact, I will gladly give him name back now. If the moderator who changed it (I honestly don't know which one) wants to change it back, they can.

I'll have to go back and find the link, but I'll give you the quick version. jAZ and Hoov had a bet about wether or not the Kerry intern affair would blow over by a certain time. The bet was that if Hoov was wrong his name would be changed to Kevin Keitzman (I am not sure for how long). There was some debate as to wether or not Hoov did lose because it is hard to tell wether or not something like that has truly blown over.

Anyway, Endo comes across the thread and changes jAZ's name to KK and Hoov's to The Lovely Jessica for his own amusement. I haven't followed much since that point but it sounds as if Hoover took that as his punishment and then the mod abuse continued (as it usually does for a period of time) until Hoov just lost it.

There was no duration specified, so it's hard to say exactly what constitutes payment of the bet vs. mod abuse.

It does appear that Endelt changed both parties names, but I did see Jaz changed back on a single request while Hoover complained about getting it changed back for a week or longer.

2. I admit I lost the bet, it was all good fun, but my name was never changed to what the bet said t would be changed too, and when I requested it chaged back I got dicked around by the mods. If they would have saud "tough luck Hoover you have to keep this name for a month" I would have been fine, but no they changed mutiple times.

3. I didn't post this thread because I wanted a ****ing pity party, I felt it was the only way to raise the issue of Mod abuse..

Dear Members of the ChiefsPlanet.com Community,

This is my 8000th post on this BB, and I’m sad to say it’s my last. I joined this community on August 22nd, 2000 – My Dad’s birthday. I’m not the best poster in the world, and am an asshole from time to time, but I feel I have contributed to this community, by posting like crazy, telling friends and Chief fans to check it out, and even sending some cash to help with the expenses.

The community feeling is why I came here and why I have stayed for so long. I have always voiced my disappointment when longtime members change their usernames because it takes away from the community feeling the Planet has built up over the years. Recently after a bet, which I lost my name was changed, it was all in good fun and got a good laugh out of it my self, but after many requests my name which was Hoover for 8-22-2000 to Feb 2004 have been The Lovely Jessica, to Perfect Man Boobs, and currently The Big Lewboobski, to put it simply I have had enough.

So starting immediately I will no longer be a member of this community. I wish you all and our beloved Chiefs all the best.

The planet is better than ever. The liberals a gaining confidence and make for some nice debate. At least 10 new regulars have become posting studs in that time. The bells and whistles are improved. The outside BB pissing contests have been eliminated. New mods. Less trolls. And an element of biting sarcasm pervades the board which I LOVE! New catch phrases, inside jokes, and cliques.

I've been on this board almost every day for 3 and a half years and its better than ever. I've whored out with other boards and they are laughable compared to this community.

Sh!t, if we could install a beer tap, maybe add one of them overstuffed pit groups, bring in a big screen for porn and football games, buy an XBox, and lay down some shag carpeting...I'd move the fug in.

I disagree. Most BBs and a large majority of the 3000 posters on this one are total strangers to each other, they've never met and the ONLY way to identify who that person is by what their name is. For example, Hoover (RIP) posted a prayer request a few days ago but at the time his user name was "Perfect Man Boobs". How many posters missed this request, which also may explain his lack of humor here, because it wasn't from "Hoover"?

As far as a name not being important, why is yours ENDelt260? Oh wait those are just random letters and numbers, no meaning to you whatsoever. :rolleyes: Internet names are THE best because they are the name(s) YOU HAVE GIVEN YOURSELF. Not the name your parents gave you, or the ones your enemies called you or the one your friends called you but the one that you felt best says who you are. Which is also why I think some posters have changed their names, to better reflect who they are.

So sorry, I think a name is very important, especially on a "community" BB like this one. Logical, Iowanian, KCTitus, KC Wolfman, Phobia, AustinChief, Gaz, keg in kc, tommykat, and all the others on here, those names personify to me who those posters are, regardless of whether I've met them or not.

So I've got some experience in these matters. Long time poster and good member of the community gets his feelings hurt. Mods using the boards for their own personal amusement. Next thing you know things are being said that you can't take back and the community is lessened.

It's not brain surgery here. Some people need to lighten up. Mods must not use the community for their own personal amusement. The planet is better than ever. The liberals a gaining confidence and make for some nice debate. At least 10 new regulars have become posting studs in that time. The bells and whistles are improved. The outside BB pissing contests have been eliminated. New mods. Less trolls. And an element of biting sarcasm pervades the board which I LOVE! New catch phrases, inside jokes, and cliques.

I've been on this board almost every day for 3 and a half years and its better than ever. I've whored out with other boards and they are laughable compared to this community.

Sh!t, if we could install a beer tap, maybe add one of them overstuffed pit groups, bring in a big screen for porn and football games, buy an XBox, and lay down some shag carpeting...I'd move the fug in.Just keep your hands off my Cheeto's. :cuss:

This episode would be unfortunate were it the first time a Moderator amused himself to the detriment of a poster. But it is not the first time this has happened. That is shameful.

And the nasty comments and satire threads aimed at Hoover are as shameful as the Moderator behavior. Hoover has a valid point. The fault here is with the Moderator, not with Hoover. No matter how amusing the Moderator thought it was to keep screwing with Hoover after Hoover requested a halt, it obviously was not amsing to Hoover.

Moderators should enforce the BB rules. Nothing more.

Anyone who does not get that should not be a Moderator.

The reality is it was never changed based on the terms of the bet.

Hoover refused to pay up on the bet. That was totally BS, IMO.

I asked for a mod ruling on the bet, and ENDelt decided to change MY username instead of Hoovers as a joke. He decided (with a little help from me) to change Hoovers as well.

I thought it was all pretty funny, and was satisfied that it was sufficient to consider the bet paid in full.

Then I guess Phob changed Hoover's name again... at that point "the bet" had nothing to do with it (as far as I was concerned).

Hey I like Hoover as much as you do but most of us are guys here who consider each other brothers. If one of your brothers went off the scale sensitive all of the sudden he would be given a hard time by his male siblings. Heck maybe even the female ones if it was this bad. I don't know that leaving is necessary at all. This has happened to me repeatedly and I have always been able to wait out the "fun". Hoover is seemed to be a bit of a hot head, so I assumed that played into his reaction.

And a misunderstanding because I am sure that if Phobia or Endelt would have known that the joke was causing him this much distress, either would have changed it immediately. Count me in the "didn't even know he was upset" category. I've sent him a PM, tho I don't know if or when he'll read it. I think Big Daddy had an excellent point. Hoov had posted that cryptic prayer request recently, so there may very well be a lot more going on than just the username issue. I hope that once things settle down a bit for him, he'll reconsider.

There are lots of childish, petty and mildly amusing things that you can do to someone that don't require moderator privileges. It's bad form to to resort to picking on someone who can't retaliate in-kind to get your jollies, IMO.

This is a general comment, not necessarily applicable in this case which looks to be as much (or more) misunderstanding as it is moderator abuse. I don't get why you and several others are so annoyed by this thread or others like it. Companies have exit interviews so they can learn something about what their employees who remain are thinking (among other reasons). This type of thread serves the same purpose, IMO. If you don't like it, why do you bother with it?
