I have grand theft auto vice city and can't figure out how to do anything except beat the crap out of people, shoot people and pick up on hookers. This isn't a bad thing but I sure wish there was a simple book to figure it out. I do have some cheat codes but that doesn't mean crap when I don't know where to go and what to do.

This isn't a bad thing but I sure wish there was a simple book to figure it out. I do have some cheat codes but that doesn't mean crap when I don't know where to go and what to do.

A couple of things:

1. Go to www.gamefaqs.com (http://www.gamefaqs.com) and download a free walkthrough. It'll explain what to do. There are certain missions you have to do that will unlock other missions, the 2nd island, etc.

2. DO NOT USE THE CHEAT CODES! They can glitch the game and prevent you from getting 100% (if you care about that kind of thing.)

Just some advice.

As far as the new game -- KICK FUGGIN ASS!! I should be done with Vice City (have about 8% left) and GTAIII (which I just bought. I know, I did it backwards, but I waited until it dropped to $15 ... I'm a cheap bastard).

Update:

There's some new screens at gamespot and other places. Apparently, Rockstar is going for the gangsta feel rather than the gangster feel. You are now Carl Johnson, a black gangbanger. Your street gang runs casinos. Um, what? Your street gang runs casinos?

Well, that f-ing blows. I liked Tommy, and I want to see more of him. If I want this mainstream, gangsta bullshit I can turn on BET.

Moving on to the good -- there are 3 cities, based on San Fran, LA, and Vegas.

Alot of cool new info on San Andreas...

June 30, 2004 - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is getting ready to hit the PS2 like a ton of bricks this fall. Easily one of the most, if not the most, anticipated games to come out this year, San Andreas could very well have sales in the same unbelievable range as the previous two entries in the series. Moving the action from the east coast to the west coast and expanding the action to three cities instead of one, this game is going to be frickin' massive.

To help you make sense of it all, we've decided to compile tons of information about this game into one place. All the big questions about the game are answered with info about several different aspects of the gameplay. Sure, this isn't all of the info available about the game so far, but it covers the bases enough that extra searching will be only for the hardest of the hardcore out there who are going to be on the constant lookout anyway.

So for all you fans of the game who want to know just what the hell is going on with the latest in this insanely popular series, just sit back, relax, and take a deep breath before diving into the information. Special thanks to PSM, Game Informer, and Rockstar.

Q: What is San Andreas' Storyline?
A: The official San Andreas website description is as follows:

"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where film stars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets."

Since that initial blurb debuted on the site during the events of E3 2004, Rockstar has remained rather tight-lipped about all other aspects pertaining to the storyline with the exception of the identities of a few characters.

Q: What characters are confirmed so far?
As of right now, there are a good number of characters that have been confirmed for San Andreas. We've listed them below.

Carl "CJ" Johnson
The game's main character, CJ is a gangster with a vengeance. His mom and younger brother were both killed thanks to gangland violence and he ended up in Liberty City for five years before coming back to Los Santos to find out who killed his moms. He's obviously destined to become an important figure in the Orange Grove Families (OGF).

Sweet Johnson
A key leader of the Orange Grove Families and CJ's older brother, Sweet Johnson blamed Carl for the death of their youngest brother five years ago. Though he's pissed at CJ for his own personal reasons, he still obviously has plenty of loyalty too -- as he's one of Carl's main supporters when he returns to the OGF.

Brian Johnson
CJ's ten-year old brother who was killed in a tragic accident five years ago. Poor kid.

Kendl Johnson
Another one of CJ's siblings, Kendl is Carl and Sweet's sister who has been at odds with the elder brother for quite some time.

Ryder
An old friend of CJs from back in the day, Ryder has a temper shorter than Tony Montana and a mean streak like few have ever seen.

Smoke
The most physically imposing member of the Orange Grove Families, Smoke is a key figure in the reunification of the gang and has been a friend to the Johnson family for years.

Frank Tenpenny & Eddie Polaski
A pair of dirty cops that knew CJ from his stay in Juvenile Hall, these two start trouble for Carl the moment he sets foot in Los Santos.

Old Reece
Carl's barber from when he was a kid, Old Reece is where players can go to get their haircuts.

Cesar
A mystery character whose purpose is remaining a mystery, Cesar looks like a total hardcore killer; complete with tattoos and his very own .45.

The Flats and The Ballas
These two gangs are the main rivals for the Orange Grove Families and have since taken over the streets since CJ left five years ago.

Q: What vehicles are in it this time?
Although the vehicle list isn't enormous quite yet, we do know a couple of details about them. Most of them, for example, will get begin to rust and get dirty the longer it is in your possession and bicycles must be driven by tapping the buttons rhythmically to simulate the use of pedals. As of right now, the vehicles listed below are all those that have been confirmed through text or screenshots for San Andreas so far. Though it should be noted that the vehicles here aren't officially licensed, but we've still used real car names to describe what they look like more accurately.

Bicycle

Cadillac

Custom Streetrod

Cutlass Sierra

Generic Hatchback

Generic Sedan

Gremlin

Helicopter

Impala (convertible)

Old-School Muscle Car

Old-School Pickup Truck

Police Motorcycle

Semi Truck

Van
Q: How big is the city in comparison to the other games?
There are actually three cities in San Andreas and all of them are interconnected with miles and miles of interconnected freeways, deserts, mountains, rivers, and more. The three cities themselves are based on real life locations like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. In terms of total geography, the land size is somewhere between five and six times bigger than Vice City.

Q: How long is the game and how many missions are there?
In terms of game length, an actual time frame has not been disclosed. But given the size of San Andreas in comparison to previous titles, players can expect it to be just as lengthy (and likely more so) as GTA III and Vice City. The number of story-based and sidequest missions have not been revealed.

Q: How many weapons are there?
There is no set number of weapons confirmed so far, but at least we know that some of them can be wielded in each hand at the same time. Additionally, players will be able to participate in drive-by shootings and utilize improved hand-to-hand mechanics when fighting without a weapon. Anyhow, these are the following guns that will definitely be in the game:

.45 Cal

9mm

Shotgun

Uzi

Q: What kind of environmental conditions can we expect and what types of missions are there?
From all the sources we've read, it appears that there will not only be more indoor missions, but several additional mini-games as well. By the time the game comes out later this year, players will be able to gamble at casinos, break into houses to rob them, and recruit their own gang to back them up. Other more traditional GTA missions will be included too; which include the typical fetch quest types and assassination missions. Most interesting of all is that fact that the game will even include some first-person shooting segments; quite a change from Vice City.

In terms of the environments, San Andreas features the same dynamic day and night cycles that were seen in both GTA III and Vice City. It also features dynamic weather, but exactly what kind of weather, we do not know. There is smog in Los Santos (Los Angeles). We also expect to witness falling rain, but snow seems a little inappropriate given the three areas that are said to represent Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco, especially considering that individual models are being created for day and night and snow would require even more individual models be created (the "mountains" between them still give us hope).

We unfortunately don't know if weather is bound to locale or if there is any kind of seasonal implementation. For instance, will it ever rain in Los Santos during August? Is there an August?

Q: What new abilities does CJ Have?
Yes ladies and gentleman, a Grand Theft Auto character will finally be able to swim. But CJ can still drown too, so don't go hopping in the ocean thinking that you can turn into Aquaman at the drop of a hat.

Additionally, CJ has improved hand-to-hand combat skills, has the ability to recruit NPCs to follow him in his gang, can wear various new outfits, and can work out at a gym to become stronger. CJ can even improve specific player attributes and skills!

Q: Is there Online or HDD Support?
There is no online multiplayer support. This is official. Hard drive support is officially unannounced, but San Andreas revolves around a clever piece of DVD streaming technology that helps the experience remain load-free, except during transitions between interior and exterior environments. This load-free streaming doesn't require the hard drive, so what would be the point of having one? Still, it would be nice to see support included so that our MP3 tracks might be added to the game.

Q: Is it true that Carl has to eat to survive?
Yup! Every so often Carl must grub to keep himself kicking. Eating too much -- or too much crap -- will make Carl fat. This not only causes NPC characters to react differently to him, but may also cause adverse performance effects, including slower speed, a weaker character, and altered physics (apparently measured by a stamina meter of sorts). To work off the weight, Carl can hit up the gym. Working out too much, however, may actually add too much mass and cause Carl to slow a bit. So, if you ever find yourself crashing into water and panicking, you'd better hope you're in the right shape to escape before your stamina meter runs dry and you drown.

Q: Will characters from other GTA games make appearances?
Apparently so. Few specifics are currently known, but we do know that recognizable and obscure names and faces from Liberty and Vice City could make return appearances in San Andreas. Interestingly, Frank Vincent, the voice actor who portrayed Don Salvatore Leone in GTA III, stated not too long ago on his personal website that he had been commissioned to reprise his role for "the sequel to GTA 3". That statement has since disappeared without a formal retraction.

For the diehard, there will also be plenty of Easter eggs hidden throughout the game that reference those previous GTA titles.

Q: How has the targeting system improved?
Reportedly, it's now more like Man Hunt, which is to say the camera takes a much closer over-the-shoulder view of the action, and by using the right analog stick to aim, should allow for more precise shooting, including vicious headshots. The game apparently also boasts a much more in-depth melee combat system when compared to Vice City or GTA III. This means that there are different attack "stances" and even some rudimentary combinations to be toyed around with. This all leads to more fighting and even carjacking variation.

Q: What are the radio stations and what licensed music is in here?
This hasn't been revealed at all yet, but we do know that San Andreas is intended to be a representation of California as a whole, which we know from experience to be a mixture of various styles, including alternative, hip-hop, rap, metal, and everything in-between. Since the game takes place during the turbulent early 90s, it wouldn't be surprising to hear Guns 'n Roses, Vanilla Ice, NWA, and the Beach Boys. It's definitely not rap specific, anyway.

Interestingly enough, we've received reports that several radio stations in Los Angeles have reported that Nine Inch Nails "Head Like A Hole" will make an appearance in the game, but that report has never been substantiated by a Rockstar spokesperson.

Q: What actors can we expect contributing talent to the game?
Current rumors suggest that Dave Chappelle or Ice Cube may be voicing Carl Johnson, but then we could start a rumor that says it's going to be Mary Kate and Ashley Olson. There's just no way of telling for sure right now. Rockstar is adamant about not selling a game based on recognizable celebrity. Their goal is to find actors who fit the roles, not big names that happen to have an open schedule. Basically, it could be anyone. The only known actor is Frank Vincent, returning as Don Salvatore Leone from GTA III who, as we mentioned earlier, stated on his personal website that he had been commissioned to reprise his role for San Andreas. That statement has since disappeared without formal retraction, but he remains credited on IMDB.com.

Q: When will the game be released?
October 19th, 2004.

Q: Will San Andreas be released on any other platforms?
Though no official word has been given and the game is currently dubbed a "PS2 title," early rumblings (prior to the official announcement of San Andreas, even), mentioned the development of a PC version. Of course, an Xbox port is not completely out of the question. Timeframes on these iterations are entirely unknown. They could come out months or years later. Or, they could never, ever, ever come out. Either way, as it stands right now -- it's PS2 only.

Q: What kind of mini-games can we expect?
There will be on-rails shooting segments where we have to gun people down while literally riding shotgun in a car that someone else is driving. There are also gambling mini-games of unknown type that apparently makeup a fully operational casino.

More cab-missions (pizza deliveries, ambulance driving stuff, vigilante stuff, et cetera) will also be included. Side-missions also now help develop "skills" for use in later plot-critical missions. How playing around in a fully operational casino boosts Carl's skills, we still do not know.

Q: What kind of buildings can we own / buy? What purpose do they serve?
Interiors and the ownership of buildings will play a far more important role in San Andreas than they ever managed to in Vice City. You can even run a casino that you have built and now own. How building works, we can't say. But, running an operation isn't supposed to be a tedious checklist and inventory management debacle. According to the printed word, Rockstar is aiming for a managerial system that revolves around the completion of missions and sub quests.

Since it's gang-based, can we actually have a gang?
During the 90s there were some 15,000 active gang members. Because ganging it up, or whatever the proper term is, was so popular, the game naturally allows players to recruit non-controllable comrades for select missions. The specifics behind this functionality are still unknown, but it is possible to enlist the aid of fellow Orange Grove Family "soldiers" (up to three, we believe) and then undertake entire missions with them at your side.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That about wraps it up for now, but as you can imagine, there's still plenty of info left to talk about over the coming months. You can bet your bottom dollar that we'll be the number one place to visit for new San Andreas info too, so be sure and check back with us often to find out exactly what's coming next!

Q: How big is the city in comparison to the other games?
... the land size is somewhere between five and six times bigger than Vice City.

Holy crap ...

Q: How many weapons are there?
There is no set number of weapons confirmed so far, but at least we know that some of them can be wielded in each hand at the same time.

I hope the mini-gun is back from Vice City ... that thing frickin' rules.

Q: Is it true that Carl has to eat to survive?
Yup! Every so often Carl must grub to keep himself kicking. Eating too much -- or too much crap -- will make Carl fat.

Not sure what I think about this. There is so much stuff to do, stopping to eat seems like more of a hassle than an enhancement.

Q: What actors can we expect contributing talent to the game?

I read on Metacritic's site that Ron Jeremy will also be in it. Maybe another porn studio ... ?

All in all, this game should RULE! Add in the varying diffuculty for folks like me who don't play 8 hours a day and it should be the best ... game ... ever.

I'm about 95% done with Vice City (the amublance mission is evil, as is the last storyline mission and Paul Cassidy's "Gun Runners") and about 55% done with GTA3 (which I just recently purchased).

Update...

The Food

You'd be hard-pressed to find a game more eagerly anticipated than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. From the information on the game that's trickled out so far, it seems that San Andreas will continue to evolve the simple but ultimately revolutionary free-roaming mission-based system that was introduced in GTA III. But Rockstar North is aiming to do more than simply offer the same kind of experience we've played before in the upcoming San Andreas. The game will take a dramatic departure from the previous entries in the series and will borrow liberally from both traditional Japanese dating sims and turn-based strategy games to create a new gameplay hybrid that--OK, no. Rockstar North is savvy enough to know that it can't rest on its laurels, but the team isn't insane either.

San Andreas is being crafted to be an ambitious entry in the franchise, even by Grand Theft Auto's own revolutionary standards. While the core experience will stick close to Rockstar's winning formula of gritty criminal mayhem, San Andreas will also feature a host of new gameplay features that will make the world you'll explore even more interactive. Over the next few months, we'll be taking a look at these new features, and we'll be sharing new information and assets with you as well.

The first feature we'll be looking at is San Andreas' food mechanic, which will require you to keep your virtual alter ego, CJ, in good physical condition by tracking down some choice grub. The basics of the mechanic are simple: When CJ is hungry, a message will appear onscreen alerting you to his need for some chow. If you choose to ignore this missive, his energy level will start to decrease, and a host of other bad things will begin to happen. Superficially, your boy will get skinny and look generally emaciated, resulting in the ill-fitting of his clothes, which is hardly the look you want to have when trying to earn respect on the streets.

As if this wasn't bad enough, you won't just look weak. Your skinny butt will be unable to lift boxes or punch with any kind of force, thus ensuring many a beat-down in hand-to-hand fights. Along the same lines, you can say goodbye to speed and stamina, which will affect your performance as you swim, cycle, or run through the game.

To keep yourself from looking like Snoop Dogg's sickly cousin, you'll have to seek out places to chow down. We've been hipped to a few of the locales in Los Santos, the LA-inspired city in the state of San Andreas, where CJ will be able to get his food on. As with the previous GTA games, you can expect the food service establishments in San Andreas to mirror real-life locales--but with satirical twists.

To wit, three of the franchise restaurants in the game are Cluckin' Bell, Well Stacked Pizza, and Burger Shot. Cluckin' Bell is the obligatory chicken shack that you'd find in most any civilized town. The Bell's menu is all about chicken, and it features such specialties as the Cluckin' Big Filet Burger and the Cluckin' Huge Double Filet. There's also a wings-pieces bucket and a "fowl wrap" burrito. Well Stacked Pizza is a pizzeria whose menu includes such pie variations as The Buster, The D-luxe, and The Double D-luxe. Finally, Burger Shot will offer delicacies such as the Double Barreled Burger, for those craving a regular dose of ground beef.

The restaurants are given an extra touch of realism, and it's a touch that's no doubt unpleasant for some. The employee uniforms for Cluckin' Bell and Burger Shot are of the fantastically demoralizing variety that anyone who's worked in fast food knows and loathes. However, if you're on the go (as any good gangsta should be, since sit-down meals beg for assassination attempts) and you don't want to hit up one of the above establishments, you can always stop by one of the vending carts that you'll find peppered throughout the city. An added bonus is that, based on our screenshot, it appears said carts are manned by moonlighting supermodels--which is never a bad thing.

Now, while it's clear Rockstar wants you to keep CJ fed in the game, just chowing down on anything and everything isn't going to do you any favors either. You obviously don't want CJ getting freakishly skinny and weak, but, at the same time, you don't need his morbidly obese butt rolling down the streets either. Each of the menu items we've mentioned has a specific caloric value that will affect how much CJ's energy and fat levels will increase. Finding the right balance between the two is a must, because eating too much can have some unpleasant results.

First and foremost, you will become fatter and fatter, resulting in the unpleasant sight of CJ bulging out of his clothes. Your tough saunter will become a waddle, and you won't be able to put your arms by your side. To drive the point home, you'll notice CJ struggling to catch his breath when standing still. If you let CJ reach obese proportions, expect the extra pounds to impact everything he does that involves physical exertion, such as lifting, climbing, swimming, cycling, running, and so on. You'll even find that some actions will be impossible to perform once CJ balloons up enough. His reaction time will be slow when fighting, and his pudgy bod will make a target so big your grandmamma could hit it.

To add insult to injury, expect to see non-player-character reactions to you change depending on your appearance. So plan on being taunted and not having much success with the ladies if you're too tubby. There really is nothing worse than being verbally abused by bandanna-wearing gang members in your own hood. Seriously. Worse still, if your rotund avatar has too much to eat, he'll just throw up, which isn't great either, because the money you spent on food will have gone to waste, and you'll be unable to buy more food for a while.

So what do you do to ensure that you'll be in tip-top shape? Eat properly, and wisely avoid binges. And, when in doubt, work out. While we can't go into too much detail on the game's exercise system just yet, we will say that, like the food mechanic, exercise seems like a simple gameplay addition at first but features a nice bit of depth to it. The benefits to having a healthy, fit CJ are pretty obvious. In peak condition, CJ will be faster and stronger. Additionally, he'll have more stamina and will demonstrate a quicker recovery time.

The key thing to note is that skinny doesn't necessarily mean fit. You'll have to manage CJ's development of fat and muscle to have him be in optimal physical condition. Once you understand how the system works, you'll be able to have a custom CJ that you can physically tailor at your whim. For example, you can have CJ be relatively thin and possess little stamina, but you can also have him exercise and build up his strength to the point that he hits like a tank. The system appears to feature some nice, subtle touches that will affect your experience in the game based on how other characters react to CJ's overall appearance. The potential fat and muscle combinations can make for some very interesting looks for CJ.

While there's no word on how much of San Andreas' food will be Atkins-friendly, the food system seems like it could be an interesting addition to a series already known for quirky but compelling features. The character development and maintenance mechanics we've discussed here are far more complex than in the previous Grand Theft Autos, and they're frankly pretty innovative for the action genre in general. (How many games let you gain and lose weight?) We'll have more on GTA: San Andreas in the weeks to come. Until then, check out nine exclusive screenshots on the game's screen index page.

The game will take a dramatic departure from the previous entries in the series and will borrow liberally from both traditional Japanese dating sims and turn-based strategy games to create a new gameplay hybrid that--OK, no. Oh, sweet...

Lead by Audio Designer Allan Walker and Music Producer Craig Connor, the radio aspects of the game have been given a complete technical overhaul. Instead of looping the sounds heard on each station, for instance, the entire setup is dynamic -- which allows each DJ to react to events in the game in real time. What this means is, that each and every song will be given a different introduction based on who the DJ is, as well as being prefaced with comments on CJ's progress through the game. Additionally, players can expect to hear live weather bulletins, deadly accurate news updates, music blocks, custom track lead-ins and outs, and call-ins from people all over the state.

. . .

Perhaps the coolest aspect of radio stations, though, is the fact that each and every vehicle will play songs differently -- since every vehicle has different speakers inside them. As an example, normal cars have a more balanced sound playback while lowriders offer a huge amount of bass and low-end audio. Players will also have access to a new optional feature that allows them to adjust the sound level of their ride.

There are some huge names doing voices for this game. And absolutely, without a doubt, the best soundtrack in the history of video games. It may be just as fun to drive around and listen to the radio for a while.

October 25, 2004 - I'm not going to beat around the bush. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the single best PlayStation 2 title I have ever played. It's larger than the biggest RPG, has more story than the heftiest adventure game, and has almost as many mini-games as Nintendo's Mario Party. Additionally, it has a production value that's second to none, boasts a faithfulness to '90s source material with an eerie accuracy, and provides more hours of entertainment than all the previous Grand Theft Autos combined. In short, it's a terrific unending masterpiece of a game -- and one that will never fall victim to an over-exaggeration of its lofty status. It's the defining piece of software for Sony's successful sophomore system, and it's almost impossible to imagine a PlayStation 2 library without it.I'm going to stop right here and go get a towel.

I cannot ****ing wait until tomorrow.

I rented San Andreas this afternoon. So far, it's not too bad. Quite a few added dimensions in the game and the controls are a little different. The graphics are excellent, but it appears a little dark, kind of like GTA III was. I actually had to bust out the instruction book to figure out how to swim, sprint and change radio stations and some other things. I will have to check it out again to figure out how to pick up a hooker because that is different too. :)

It looks like it will take a little getting used to the controls for those that are used to playing GTA III and Vice city. The music is pretty cool with a lot of early 90's music. The F word is said often in the game, so you may want to turn the volume down if you have kids around.

On a side note, some of the weapons cheats are the same as Vice City, if you care to use them. I have been trying to play without them, but I figured I'd see if they work.

This game is just ****ing MASSIVE in scale and scope. Driving out of Los Santos on one of the countless confusing, long, winding roads and catching a glimpse of Las Venturas in the distance before entering one of the many smaller communities outside LS is downright awe-inspiring. From the countryside to downtown to the ghetto to the beach, Los Santos and its surrounding areas always seem perfect (and the skyscrapers seem almost impossibly big when you're near them, as they should). The game completely diminishes any thoughts you ever had about Vice City being big, and that's without even being able to get to SF and LV yet. While my friend was playing for a couple of hours this afternoon, I was constantly looking around in amazement.

The new features that I've experienced all seem work extremely well so far. I love taking pictures, and playable early-90s style video games (both in your house and arcade machines in various places) are abundant. I also found a video betting place for horse races in downtown LS that ended up netting me a little extra cash (it's still early, but money's very hard to come by on missions so far). I've only tried swimming for a very short period of time, but it seemed pretty intuitive. Almost reminded me of Super Mario 64.

I'm still getting used to the new controls (I used the setting that made select the radio button in the past two games), but I really like the new rotating adjustable camera. The targeting system seems to work nicely.

Just for the record, I got my first gun by a stroke of luck that involved the cops chasing some guy who fired some shots, tried to run away, and got creamed by a cop car. Awesome.

Personally, I love the music. If you can't find at least five stations you enjoy listening to, you're just way too selective to be complaining. I'm not sure it can beat Vice City, simply because of the time frames, but I'm really digging it so far, and I haven't even heard much Bounce, K-JAH West, Radio X, CSR, or SF-UR. K-Rose is surprisingly great (though my hopes were raised significantly when I heard the Willie Nelson "Crazy" sample on the official site), Master Sounds is smooth, and you (or at least, I) can't go wrong with either rap station. K-DST has some definite "mark out" moments, too.

Mini-spoiler about the radio here: Everyone's favorite Chatterbox host makes a cameo on the talk station, and there's also a show on there that was mentioned by a caller in GTA III (Gardening with Maurice -- and no, it's not Maurice Chavez of VCPR fame). I haven't heard much WCTR, either. I think I heard either Patton Oswalt or a Lazlow character who sounded sort of like Patton Oswalt was doing it call in during a discussion about football.

The new cars are sweet, too, and I was very pleased to find an R3 pimping mission available in one of them. :D

Anyways, like my grandpa always said, busting into a crack den and beating people up with baseball bats is never a bad pastime.

To be honest though, I really wasn't spending a whole lot of time in a car. I'll do a lot of exploring tomorrow. Tonight was characters and the first couple of missions, a couple involving bikes.

I've got CJ pimped out with a green do-rag, the combat jacket/dog tags combo seen in my avatar (kind of a coincidence, to be honest), and urban camo pants. I've also got a green hoody/green track pants combo. Toss in my green lo-tops, and I'm finally sportin' tha colors, yo.

This game has already devoured me. I'm exhausted, from lack of sleep, but I. Can't. Stop. Playing.

That may be me in a few days.

So I rent this game, play the first mission, save, and then BAM! My PS2 won't let me get out of CJ's house ... it just locks up. :cuss:

I can only play "It Came from Uranus" so many times.

Anyone know of a place in KC where I can get my PS2 fixed? I cracked it open a few weeks ago to clean it out, thinking that was the problem, but it's still having issues.

Got my copy last night at 9 pm, and I was playing until almost 3 am. This game is incredible. I've been able to find quite a few hidden objects and tags (hidden packages in GTA 3 and Vice City.) This game is freakin' awesome. It's good to have an understanding girlfriend when games like this come out. She knows that I'll be holed up for a few days, and zombified when I come out, but she still loves me. Life is good. Can anyone bring me some coffee?

If you can get it to work for about 5 minutes, take it to Electronics Boutique, trade it in with 5 old games and they will give you one of the new ps2s that are about 1/5th the size of the current ones.

You just have to get it to work long enough for them to test it out.

Couple of problems with that:

1. I can only get the damn thing to work by putting in a disc, starting it, ejecting the tray, putting the tray back in, and then hitting reset.

2. I don't have 5 games to trade in.

I never had a problem with it until a few months ago -- it's always worked like a champ for the last two years.

quick change of subject

No. In fact, you can't get online with most games as it requires DNAS authentication. The network adapter provides power and the interface for the HD, thats it.

I've been wanting to do this with my Xbox a long time but really didn't want to get LIVEscrewed if I forgot to disable the mod chip. I like the PS2 option a lot now that the entire EA Sports line is available to be played on XboxLive. Is it still possible to get online with the PS2 with it modded? I was mainly looking at using my BlockBuster Gamepass and DL'ing a bunch of stuff I've been wanting to play for a long time.

As far as GTA:SA. I just got the mission to pick up the low-rider and the enter the "bounce" competition, which is pretty tough. Fun stuff and most of the music has been fantastic and a trip down memory lane. Ralph Tresvant anyone?

I have games loaded to my PS2 hard drive and I've read that you cannot go online with games played off the hard drive so I'm going to assume it's the same way for modded PS2's.

had any problems with your PS2 version conflicting with anything? Mine appears to be a version7. Also, are most of the games supported and able to be copied to the HD, from your experienc? Is it possible to nuke your PS2? Can I obtain a copy of HDLoader for free (via the net)?

Sorry for all the questions =)

I use a disc called HD Loader, which was taken off the market right after I purchased it, but there's a disc called HD Advance that is basically the same thing. The only way to get it for free would be to get a pirate copy somewhere, and I'm not sure how well those work. Every game I've copied onto the HD has worked so far. The only thing I've had to do is enable certain modes within HD Loader to play certain games, esp. EA Sports titles.

Given the history with GTA III and GTA Vice City, there will be a PC version but it probably won't come out for at least a year. Right now, Sony is laughing all the way to the bank because they'll sell the game exclusively for the PS2 for at least a year.

You can still get online with a modded system, or a system using the HD Loader, but it involves patching the DNAS inside of the PS2 iso, which is more than I'm willing to explain here.

I couldn't resist. I'm now the proud owner of a new (tiny) PS2 and GTA:SA.

The game rocks so far, but I've barely scratched the surface. The soundtrack is awesome. Off the top of my head...

Faith No More : Midlife Crisis.
Dre : Dre Day
Ice Cube : It Was a Good Day
Alice in Chains : Them Bones
Dre and Snoop: Nuthin' but a G thang
Heart: Barracuda
America: Horse with No Name
Billy Idol: White Wedding
Rob Bass: It Takes Two
Bell Biv Devoe: Poison
Danzig: Mother
Janes Addiction: Been Caught Stealin'
Tupac: I Don't Give a F*ck

And for the country fans we have Randy Travis: All My Ex's, and Willie Nelson: Crazy.

And tons more. I love it.

And Welcome to the Jungle of course, right? :D

In addition to those, I marked out when I first heard "Let It Whip" and "Plush" on Bounce FM and Radio X, respectively.

I'm trying to save K-Jah West, SF-UR, and the talk station for San Fierro.

This game is ****ing awesome. I haven't played a mission that's been the same as another in three days.

"Just Business" and "Reuniting the Families" are awesome.
