Barely into camp and Sweeney has to sit out because of a back twinge??? Hopefully it is like Pena said, and it is nothing, but it makes you wonder when he for sure is going to get several days off soon. Doctors plan to induce his wife on Monday if she still hasn't delivered the baby yet, so he already has a rest coming up in 2 days, but had to sit out yesterday?

Does anybody know if he practiced today? Good thing we picked up Matt Stairs!

Sweeney out of lineup when wife goes into labor

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Kansas City Royals (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/kan/) first baseman Mike Sweeney (http://bigleaguers.yahoo.com/mlbpa/players/5521/) was scratched from the lineup Friday after his wife went into labor with the couple's first child.

Sweeney was scheduled to be the designated hitter Friday against the Texas Rangers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/tex/) before his wife went into the labor. Shara Sweeney, who was in Arizona with her husband awaiting the birth of their son, had been scheduled to be induced Monday.

Sweeney, an All-Star the past four seasons, missed the spring opener Thursday because of stiffness in his lower back.
